Panda's explanation of Daemons

A daemon is the physical representation of one's soul. It is in the form of an animal/mythical creature in rare cases. This form is a reflection of the person's personality. To make an example Kai's daemon would be a phoenix. This is because he is something that is admired and coveted by many, when people get to close they tend to be burned and that Kai has an uncanny ability to bounce back. Yes? Another example is Rei who's daemon would be a tiger. Quick-thinking, dangerous, yet appears docile until the moment of attack.

Ok. So basically the shape of your characters daemon is a reflection of their personality. Daemon's can talk. However, normally they choose only to talk to their human and other daemons. This is because a daemon is like the person's conscience, the part of the person that questions him/herself. People are -not- allowed to touch other people's daemons. To do so is to touch the person's most sacred inner core and it is just -not done-

As a child a person's daemon is not set- just as in real life your personality changes as you try to find who you are (Cheesy but true) so it is in adolescence that the daemon's form settles into the form that he/she will keep throughout their human's natural life. Until the time of the daemon's settling, it can change from animal to animal, poss. depending on the child's mood.

A daemon is not a separate entity from the person. It is the person. This means that if the person is frightened the daemon is to and will possibly act in a frightened manner, hiding in the person's pocket or whimpering etc. This means that a daemon is a way to tell people's emotions because no matter how stony someone's face is their daemon will often reflect something.

A daemon is often of the opposite sex of the person. It is suggested that this fact has something to do with the sexual orientation of the person but I choose to believe that it is the sex that the person lacks most in their personality. (Aka a male/female who has more masculine traits than feminine would have a female daemon to provide balance)

Your daemon cannot move more than a few metres from their person. This is because the bond that a daemon and person share is so strong and full of love that they cannot bear to be apart from each other. It is a physical pain when they move too far away.
