Well I am not trying to be an a** or anything but its called the 1986 title because it was introduced in 1986. It was the second of 2 versions of the belt that was only held by Hulk Hogan. He defended it a WM2 , against King Kong Bundy and again at WM3 against Andre. I am thinking that it was only used during 1986 and 1987. It was the title that Andre won from Hogan then sold to Ted Debiase. Thus the championship was held up and thats how the tournament came about at WM4. The tournament at WM4 retired that version and introduced the Winged Eagle version. Randy Savage won the tournament and the Winged Eagle version stayed around until Austin won his first championship. (whatever year that was) Austin was then given the Smoking Skull belt rolleyes . Then when Austin lost the title the Smoking Skull was replaced with the Attitude Era version. It lasted until the end of the Alliance storyline and was merged with the WCW title , but for a while (until Jericho lost it) they kept both belts. When Jericho lost to Triple H they introduced the newest version and did away with the WCW title until they brought it back and made it the World Heavyweight title and the other one was the WWE World title. Then Cena won the title from JBL at WM21 and they turned it into that peice of crap that he is carrying around undeservingly.
one last note of trivia. Hulk Hogan is the only champion in the history of the WWE to hold 5 different versions of the WWF/WWE World Heavyweight Title. the others that come close are Undertaker with 3 different desings. Austin , the Rock , Big Show , Triple H , Shawn Micheals and Kurt Angle with 2 designs.
Sorry that I was not sure about all the dates and I hope this helps you out.
