I got in the following arguement: this guy had an option on his poll (the question was: Whats your favorite kind of music?) that read "Country *cough*gay*cough*" This girl wrote: -_-Satanist_Child-_- Idiotic ******** homophobe And so started this conversation: Dark_Wolf_Moon -_-Satanist_Child-_- Dark_Wolf_Moon -_-Satanist_Child-_- what? where it says "Country *cough*gay*cough*" ? thats not any form of bash on homosexuality, thats a bash on country music. gosh stop taking offense to the most innocent of comments. No. He's saying country music is shitty but using the word "gay" instead. That's such a homophobic thing. 1.) How is it "homophobic"? and how many people must i educate on this? Homo- refers to gay people, phobe- refers to fear. he does not fear them, he never even said he disliked them. 2.) "Gay" has always been a term for stuff that was out of style or "shitty" in your terms. And now all of a sudden, its a horrible thing to use the language you grew up around? Hes never said a thing against homosexuals, so why are you so up in arms like he said "OMG HomoZ Needz to Die!!!" (note the quotation marks, I didn't say (nor do i think)that myself, nor did he) No, it hasn't ALWAYS been used for that. He's using gay to mean something bad, which is wrong and it doesn't matter what you say. Oh, and NOW you start typing decently? Very nice. I have better things to do, and you should too. Hmm, if you ask me, that was a rather silly argument to get into. There didn't seem much to argue about, but ya know, the Left will try to find anything to argue about.
Also, homophobe is a term that is overused these days, especially when it comes to the issue of gay marriage, as in if you don't support gay marriage then you hate/are "afraid" of gay people.
This is probably the reason why I no longer use the term "gay" as an adjective for anything that is stupid.

YES! It is such a pet peeve of mine when people misuse "homophobe". I recently recieved a PM from someone telling me I shouldn't use a derogatory term like "sodomy". I didn't use the word in a derogatory fashion but rather used is a substitute for "a**l and oral sex". I told him that I'll stop using it in his presense (because I'm polite) but I would not stop using the word altogether and he cannot otherwise convince me that I was being derogatory. I'm not trying to pick on him because he really is a nice guy. But it is relevent to the topic. He just had a sensitive moment...but then again he hasn't had a good experiance with the word so I'm not surprise he was offended.

So it hasn't always been associated with bad things still It is used alot in todays society there fore making its way into other peoples vocab * example father uses a swear a round a young child child begins to use it because thinks hang on ill get back to this in a few minutes
