Scientific Name: Echidna nebulosa
Size: At maturity, most reach lengths of 24 to 30 inches
Habitat: Found in reefs in the Indo Pacific, the Red Sea, eastern waters of Africa, and various places in the Pacific ocean including the Hawaiian Islands.
Feeding: Snowflakes prefer small crustaceans and occasionally small fish. Because of their small size as compared to other moray eels, it is very rare for them to go after larger fish. They can be picky eaters and can go for several weeks without feeding.
Other Quirks:
-- Eels are jumpers and will often escape their enclosures in search of the next tasty crab.
-- Snowflake eels are less nocturnal than other species of eel, and are often active during the day.
-- Relatively peaceful and more docile than other species. Of course, they can still bite if hand-fed.
