I love that I can read the posts in this guild and witness the strong spirits of other girls and women, but I wonder how many of you preach of your individual struggle for accomplishing our common goal of gender equality and do not live the words you speak? How many of you continue to live your lives without hinting at the beliefs you so proudly announce online? his thread isn't to insult any one, but only to list and share what contributions you are making to the feminist movement. I will provide an example. Please feel free to join.
1. I am a writer (nearly published and credible!!) of science fiction; most of my stories are pro-feminism such as one about a female general of an entire army
2. I am extremly (ok maybe not extremely, but better than decent) good at Halo and other video games. I play at a gaming center in town. It is quite rare that I see any female gamers.
3. I play paintball, another activity without much of a female influence. C'mon ladies, what's more fun that shooting wads of paint at people!!!
4. I work as an independent contractor, mostly in outdoor carpentry like constructing fences and building patio decks. I carry the 12 foot long red wood beams, 80 lbs packages of just-add-water cement, 40 lbs chop saw, 25lbs spud pike (to break the rocks in the holes I dig for the posts. I can stand ten feet in the air on the beams of the foundations of a new deck, drive a tractor, use a variety of hardware tools, and not complain.
C'mon girls, all of you do some sort of activity that breaks down the gender barriers. PLEASE SHARE. I am anxious to see what tomorrows feminists are working on.

I'm active in the local punk / anarchist scene. I, along with the other people that I associate with, work to help break ALL gender stereotypes. Guys cook at Food Not Bombs, girls fix bikes at the local bike collective, and everybody gets together to work around the house, clean, etc. It's a good environment, but it gets a little dramatic; we're constantly scrutinizing the actions of others and calling people out when they're being unfair, which kind of sucks. but hey, we're still learning. i, too, am a writer, and play a brass instrument, and am in the top 5% of my class.

That's great. I love the idea of switching the stereotypical gender roles. You rock Capn Smasher!

I think I contribute to feminism by doing and wearing whatever I damn please. domokun
I'm a writer too, and pretty much all of my main characters are women, in situations where their gender doesn't matter, it could just as easily be a male protagonist but those are so overdone! Why not a woman?
And I love gaming and paintball. whee Unfortunately, paintball's kind of expensive...as is lasertag.

No I don't play many video games, (Not many other than Super Nintendo games on my X-Box. Emulator love heart whee ) nor do I play sports, (Not because I think sports are for guys, I'm not very good and I tend to quit what I'm not good at.) and I'm apparently 'sweet' and 'cute' aswell but no one messes with me because I demand respect and I take no crap. I'm also an Animal Rights activist so most people expect I won't take their crap and don't bother. I also write songs that are pretty le tigreish(with a bit of a softer voice, I'm working on that though wink )

I just live and treat everyone equally. If I hear someone degrading women or a group of people, I speak out. When I'm at work I suggest toys that don't fit the mold for what one would typically get a little girl or boy. I listen to music and read books the reflect my views, for the most part at least rolleyes That’s how I contribute to the feminist community in my area. It's not much, but I feel its enough for now.

With the people I'm around, the gender roles matter most when it comes to sexuality. The man barks, the woman jumps. I've seen some of the smartest girls I've met fall to their knees for the "love of their life", even if it means degrading themselves. I don't take that s**t. Period. I'm no ******** doormat. I demand respect. I'm loving and supportive of my man, but that doesn't mean he has control over me. I wear whatever the hell I want. I say whatever the hell I want. I don't take a backseat to anyone, expecially when it comes to issues I feel strongly about. I hope to learn how to fire a rifle sometime in the near future. Good aim runs in my family. I play whatever game I take an interest in. I'd rather fix something then clean something. I hate to cook. I might look into becoming a mechanic after I finish school. I don't give a s**t if it's a male-dominated field; it's a well paying job, and can save you a lot of money if you ever need repair on your car 3nodding .
