Anyone heard Metallica's cover of Queen's Stone Cold Crazy? If so, what did you think?

I personally like the original more, way more. Its not that the cover completely sucks I just find the uneccesary addition of swear words and some of the changes irritating. They changed the following lyrics. " and I'm playing on my slide trimbone" was changed to " And she's playing on my slide trimbone" and " Walking down the street shooting people that I met with my rubber tommy water gun" was changed to " walking down the street shooting people that I met with my fully loaded tommy gun" And I'm sorry to any die hard Metallica fans but Brian May is a better gutarist than Kirk Hammet and James Hetfiled's got nothing on our dear Freddie when it comes to vocals. But most of you probably agree with that last statement since this is a Queen guild.

I've never heard the cover before, never intended to do so, but after your description of how it varies from the original track, I think I'll avoid it at all cost. Part of a good cover is sometimes making adaptations to the lyrics but in doing that you're supposed to make them better, not... bad.

(Nice work on getting some good discussions going, by the way. whee )

Well, the only other version of "Stone Cold Crazy" I've heard is the one of James Hetfield performing it at the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert. My ex-friend had a copy of Garage Inc. and I wanted to hear the band's version fo the song, but he never let me! (And, for the record, this isn't why he's my ex-friend.)

I haven't heard it myself, but after reading about how Metallica re-did one of Queen's songs about a year ago when I first read the discography of one of Queen's cds I decided to rub it in on the die-hard heavy metal fans... biggrin . I asked a few posers who didn't even know the song's name then I asked another guy who said he knew and didn't care. I listened in on Metallicas version finally (YouTube is my bestfriend). As far as I am concerned, it is no longer Queen's song.

I did some homework since I am out of school too. I wish they assigned Queen homework in school smile .

Something Along The Lines Of Maiku Might Be Talking About (James Hetfield, Tony Lomi, Queen) [No clue who James Hetfield or Tony Lomi is]

I´ve heard it in the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert and is not bad at all, it gives the song a harder touch.

For the most part, I hate remixes. They make me cringe. In my mind, a song is supposed to be played the way that the composer played it, and shouldn't be changed one little teensy weensy bit. However, if the remix makes the song better, then it's okay, like what Freddie did with The Great Pretender. I haven't heard Metallica's version of Stone Cold Crazy, but I am SO avoiding it now.

i haven't heard very much Metallica, but i have liked what i've heard. However, i think they're just too rough for Queen. Freddie's vocals need to be handled delicately, or you hurt the spell...
