They had not heard much from Kiva in the passing weeks, and Mteule had begun to worry... He'd been advised by Matifu and his brother alike, don't worry so much. He had enough on his mind, and actually in the end it turned out fine... but really...
So, the Sky priest was busy staring down into the surface of the river that ran through their lands, lost in thought.

Mteuli loped through the familar trees with a smooth smile on his maw. He was actually on his third day home from one of his trips and still found the sight of his homeland refreshing. He just never grew tired of it. No matter how many places he visited, his heart always seemed to return here.
He suddenly caught sight of his brother watching the water. He tilted his head curiously, twitching his ears. He moved gracefully to his brother's side, taking a seat, "Hello there, brother."

Mteule looked up as his twin joined him, tail moving to twitch to one side. He didn't seem to have it in him to even be mildly irritated with his sibling's wandering paws anymore, maybe he was finally starting to relax about some things, instead. He was even starting to finally understand and realize that it really was helpful to the Pride.
"Back from your wanderings? Did you find anything interesting?"

"Mm, hm," Mteuli nodded smoothly, a small smile gracing his maw, "Of course I did, brother. There is always something interesting to see, if you look." Ah, there he went again, going the rather round about way to answering the question. Well, maybe he wasn't doing it on purpose. He did seem to find every person he met rather interesting, that was no lie.
He did appreciate not being scolded for his disappearance. That was a really nice change of pace.

The darker colored of the twins quirked a brow and finally spared his eyes their endless staring, looking to his brother instead. It was more of a prompt, rather than a show of impatience. It was one of the more subtle differences between the two of them it seemed. Mteule would have explained without such a prompt needed, but that was due to the fact that he had an a**l-retentive way of living. How often he wondered how someone so closely related to him could be so different, but he never thought less of his brother for it.
Though their relationship had a few bumps along the way (it was a strain on their bond, being left to be soley responsible for the survival of their pride, or what remained of it. One being naturally more relaxed and-- Mteule couldn't help but see it as a lack of care for their duties and the responsibility they'd been bestowed --while the other felt as if he was the only one with his head on straight. Thank Kiva that there was Mteuli, Matifu, and one or two of the others to keep the uptight one from stressing himself into an early grave.), the love that Mteule had for his brother would always outlast any job he had been given. He tended to think too much, and not follow his heart when he should, at times.
"Would you care to share what that something is?"

Mteuli chuckled lightly. His brother expected a factual answer, a simple one. But that was something he really couldn't give. It just wasn't his nature...nor the nature of the things he had found interesting in his travels. "Things, my dear brother, things."
Mteuli was...well, lacking in the ability to act responsibly. Reason was something that illuded him. Traditions and duties...he understood they had meaning, but he never seemed to take them quite seriously enough. Somehow he just...couldn't bring himself to focus like his brother.
"Well...the characters you meet, for one...the different lives you see...the constant change of the landscape...new possibilities everyday...it's quite thrilled and interesting," he murmured smiling.

Mteule had been out of the jungle very little, and only when he had to be to search out disbanded members. In his most recent trek (and the only one that had been purely for his own rise of curiosity) he'd come across Tisha, a kindred spirit that he'd felt privledged to have met. Though she'd been no more than a chance meeting, and they'd only shared one conversation, Mteule certainly felt he'd gained something from the encounter. It simply hadn't been enough to explain why his brother felt the need to explore every other, if not every, day.
Mteuli would probably not like it, but here came the conversational shift.
"Brother, did you have the same dream, a night ago?"

Mteuli looked at him with a very, very straight face. His eyes seemed to dull with seriousness and he said in a low, slow voice, "Mteuli...I did not know you dreamed about woman in the manner! Though I must admit, that black lioness was quick a lovely woman but the dream was not what I would call something you would discuss in public..." He was pulling Mteule's leg. How entirely cruel.
He laughed and shook his head, "I'm sorry brother, I could no resist." Straightening up again he looked back at Mteule, ready to be serious. He still did look rather joyful though, "I did have it, my brother. It seems she is ready, is she not? Wonderful! I see no problems in it."

Mteule's eyes widened in shock and mortification at his twin's answer. He had not even stopped to think what he might be verbally walking into, but now that the trap was tripped the black male was sputtering for a response.
"B-brother! Don't be ridiculous! Of course I wouldn't dream something like THAT!"
Oh, heavens! What made it so much worse was that Kauta had been the only lioness to ever occupy his mind in anything besides a priestly-manner, and he struggled with that as it was.
Then Mteuli explained that he had been joking, and Mteule's skin heated with further, slow embarassment.
"... Oh.... right..." He cleared his throat, willing himself to calm down. Kiva help him...
He exhaled tiredly in answer, glad when the topic changed.
"Yes... I believe she is as well, as prepared as she can be. We should begin preparations to gather the pride. The corronation ceremony can commence soon."
He smiled, feeling a gentle swell of pride over the female that the two had helped raise from juvinille-hood to adulthood. She had shaped up to be a kind and loving lioness indeed, both very important qualities for a Queen. The only problem that remained now, was that she was short of a King, and that was a matter that eventually needed to be taken into account indeed. He had gone over it in his head repeatedly, and couldn't find a way to wrap his mind around it. His relationship with her was fated to remain the way that it was. He only hoped he'd be strong enough to maintain his discipline.

"Ah yes, the ceramony," Mteuli agreed half-heartedly. Honestly, if he could skip the whole thing and just make Kauta queen without it he would. He hated stuffy rituals, finding them a little...well, much. Honestly, no one would have questioned her rule if she didn't do it. But, it was the joy of he and his brother to keep up the traditions, no matter how he disliked them.
He eyed his brother with slight curiousity. He knew Mteule was rather fond of Kauta. He decided to ask something sort of along that topic line, if Mteule would even see it as such, "Brother...what are the laws on kings again? If you don't mind repeating them...I do believe I've forgotten..."

Mteule sighed softly, not looking at his brother as he did so. He wasn't so blind, he knew that Mteuli didn't much care for the formality of their traditions. Goodness, had all the priests before them been so drastically different from one another? Sometimes it was mentally and emotionally exhausting for Mteule.
~The others must think I'm an uptight old cod.~
Did Mteuli...? The possibility hurt. Was it really so wrong in the eyes of the others, to value tradition so? Was he the only one that still cared?
~Forgotten the laws? Goodness, brother.~ He sighed mentally this time, refraining from shaking his head. What he didn't always remember himself, however, was that his brother tended to know him better than that anyway. He didn't have to show it conciously for his feelings to be read.
"There aren't, really," He answered, sounding just a bit tired. "Being of royal blood is the first requirement, however, he must also be deemed fit to lead by Kiva, which is why we are required to wait until Kiva gives us the signs that whoever is appointed is ready. If by the time they have reached adolescence or adulthood we have not heard from her, another leader must be selected. Of course... in this case, Kauta was the one selected instead, as there were no male heirs. Whoever she chooses as her mate must undergo Kiva's approval as well before he's allowed to take the throne alongside her."

Actually, Mteuli envied how his brother seemed so be so intouch with all the traditions and responsibilties they had. He didn't know how his brother handled everything...it amazed him, in all reality. And in turn it made him feel a little awkward. He knew he could never live up to what his brother had done and could do...perhaps that was why he didn't try.
As for the laws, of course he hadn't forgotten. But, Mteuli sometimes did things like this, "Ah...then you should truly loosen up, my brother. Do not fret over Kauta's choice for a mate just yet." He chuckled. Maybe it was just him, but he found Mteule's fondness for Kauta very obvious.

"Right." .... "....." Wait. Her choice over a mate? Who brought that up? "What?"
But it wasn't to be, for before he could further his question both twins felt a simultaneous touch on their minds. The voice was soft and child-like, but held a reserved and gentle nature even for one so young, that warmed the heart upon hearing.
My priests, how does the morning find you this day?
The sky-priest's eyes widened, turning suddenly to gaze at his twin.
"It... it finds us well, my lady, though the honor of your presence increases such tenfold! Is there something that you wish of us?"

Mteuli purred as the voice touched him. Though he was surprised, that feeling was melted within an instant. Ahhh, so it was the first time he had heard Kiva speak! Such a lovely voice too. It seemed this little meeting with his brother was far more important then they had thought.
"Yes, My Lady...your voice brings quite a tramendous about of joy to my heart! We are all ears, My Dear," Mteuli murmured smoothly. He was excited just as his brother. After all...the first time speaking with a goddess was something special indeed!

Might I ask you to lend me your presence for a short time, then?
Mteule's eyes were suddenly dancing with excitement and pride, embarassment and confusion forgotten. He rose to all fours and nodded his head, as though she could see the motion-- perhaps she could? Regardless, he looked to his brother to see him to his paws as well before responding.
"Of course, where would you have us meet you, m'lady?"
Meet me at the rock formation in front of the cliffs... I'll be waiting for you there. She replied, with a touch of fondness.
