Demiplane Kereya

A derelict ship sits upon this floating rock in a demiplane of constant dusk. However, the area itself is far from deserted as a combination of haulers, mecha, and personnel work through a huge junkpile of metal parts and electronic doo-dads, mainly by moomba engineers screaming 'Laguna!' at each other in various pitches. Among the melodic chaos stands an older man near a heavy cyclone ride unit, seemingly overlooking things and giving comment to what needs to go where.

Occasionally, a yellowish portal will open up for mecha and vehicles to ride through. Further away however, the yellow portals bring forth a shower of parts where every stands clear when the makeshift train signal lights come on. No seriously, someone stole a train signal and rigged the entire system. Crude yes, but effective. The work on the Ose though brings about a more serious tone.

Being 'home' to the crew, most of the living and public areas are in proper order. A lounge/rec room, sleeping quarters, cafeteria are just a few of the areas to help people unwind after a hard shift.

Meanwhile, on the outskirts of Barton:

Guardian sat in the command couch of his Wolverine. Ten meters high, and massing 60 tons, his black and red battlemech dominated the smaller Satyros, and Monocle salvage mechas of the TORAMA, but that was sort of the point. He was there to help supervise operations... as well as keep things under control if things turned hostile. Setting his comm system to the general frequency, he tapped the transmit button, and smiled as he spoke.

"Come on ladies and gents... lets get this last load onto the flatbeds... Next shipment is due in fifteen minutes! Move, Move! Last squad done buys the beer!"

With a cacaphony of radioed catcalls and friendly jeers, the salvage operations sped up perceptibly, it had been a long day already... first clearing rubble, and then deciding how best to dismantle, and transport their spoils. The "spoils" such as they were, seemed to be the remains of some small spacefaring warship, augered in, blackened and rusting in its own bone-dry impact crater. Not much was left to salvage really, but there were ample hull plates still usable near the aft, and a team of plasma-torch wielding technicians were cutting out the exposed structure, and dropping long, still hot sections with loud clangs to the cracked and blackened surface below. The plates and beams were picked up by the five teams of mecha, and carried a short distance to waiting flatbeds, where they were stacked like cords of wood... till the truck was at "full load" and the next one in line took its place, while it labored its way out of the crater, and towards the nearby Field base for portal transport to the Demiplane.

Deciding that, for the moment, things would run along smoothly, Guardian turned his mech towards the lip of the crater and started walking, its large armored feet raising small clouds of sooty dust and cracking the semi-slagged surface... It was time to call in his daily report, and see if the guys and gals on the carrier had leads on anything new for them to gut.

The mention of 'beer' gets the crews scurrying faster than ants at a picnic.

One of the field grunts says over comm to Guardian, "Yo Boss, looks like today is a pretty decent haul ya?" he glances as the flatbeds go through the portal and asks, "So if ya dont mind me askin, what made ya decide to join up with us? I mean, you not down and out with that fancy mech and equipment ya got?" he smiles, "You a man of adventure I bet..." Another, older grunt slows a bit in passing, "Hey dont be so damn nosy, isnt it how you got your nose broke last time." A couple of laughs come over the open channel. The 'nosy' one replies, "Oh come on pops, any story would be better than listening to one of your tales..." more laughter ensues then he turns, "So how bout it Chief, gonna fill your crew in or what?" Then there's a bit of silence, detecting a hint of anticipation from the crew.

Meanwhile, back on Kereya...

A few moombas are lifting the more critical chunks out of the growing metallic landfill, some pieces of 400 pounds or so being hauled with ease. Seems right outside the Ose they've built a small machine shop area to cut, weld and shape pieces of the hull.

Yakima is at the bridge, sitting with her feet up on the comm panel. Looking over the latest progress report he began jotting things down, mainly parts for the engines, fold system (adding some $$$! to it), missle and ammo costs, as she flipped the page it went more into what all needed wiring, A/C, artificial grav units, next page... more on electrical and important information on getting the pinpoint barrier system functional. She shakes her head and yawns, "I should of stayed in school." In any case she thought to herself, 'We need raw fuel and power.'

Pausing his wolverine at the top of the crater, Guardian chuckles and keys the comm line open "A decent enough haul yeah, should help seal some of the holes we have left, and maybe do some more shoring up... but that's up to the techs. As to why I'm here.... well hell.. that ain't no big secret... we all know it" He pauses to let tension build, grinning inside his neurohelmet "I'm in it for the money... the beer... and getting to see exotic places! Not to mention.... once we're done... maybe we'll get to kick some a**, take spoils of war, and generally live it up. Now, who could resist a job description like that eh?" As he spoke, the wolverine moved fluidly, spreading its arms wide, encompassing the whole of the crater. "Not us, thats for sure... Once a merc, always a merc, best family in the world! The rest of the story... I leave for the bar, after all... storytelling can make a man powerful thirsty, if you know what i mean." With that he literally made his wolverine bow and backed over the rim of the crater before turning and continuing on to make his report. By all indications, tonight would be a good night...

Once he reached the base, he backed the wolverine into the MFB's main gantry, and started damping down its reactor... Tonight would be grand... but there was still work to be done first, as always.

Its been a year and 6 months since that day when she woke up with several men and women in white uniforms with masks covering their mouths looking down on her. She can still remember that day like it happened yesterday, the loud screams followed by loud chatter from the doctors requesting assistance from the guards then just as the guards entered they were thrown out the room with three doctors landing on their laps. With the guards distracted Lindy sprung out of bed and made a run for it who then encountered other guards and didnt hesitate to take them down, that is of course, until someone snuck up on her. A sharp sting on her back stopped her then reached back to pull off a dart that was no doubt filled with a sedative. It quickly started working, her knees buckled and Lindy felt herself falling to the floor. As her eyes slowly started to close she turned her head in the direction of the person who landed the shot, it was a tall "old" man in his late 30's or early 40's, and then she passed out.

Suddenly a hand touches her shoulder which snaps her out of the flashback, it was the hand of a fellow squadron member who was the second oldest to her, taller than her with light tanned skin, short combed back light brown hair with brown eyes, his name was Danny. "Uh hey how'd I do this time?", Danny asked, eager to find out if he had improved in the Simulation Pod since the last time he somehow managed to crash the plane. "O-oh uh...", Lindy stuttered while flipping through some papers, finding his results she replied, "Well you didnt crash the plane this time and you improved your landings by 5%.", she wasnt done talking but Danny interrupted her, "Who cares about all that stuff, did I do better at flying, thats most important to me than anything.". Lindy sighed then bonked him on the head with the clipboard and shook her finger sternly, "Unless you plan to live in the clouds I suggest you pay attention to everything! An ace pilot is useless if he cant land right.", Danny raised his hands in front of him and backed away a little chuckling, "Ok ok I get it.". That wasnt going to stop Lindy from lecturing him, some technicians who were passing by laughed and commented on how Danny is always being lectured by everyone. The lecture went on for at least 10 minutes, by then both of them were hungry and settled things with a coin toss, Danny reached into his pant pocket and took out a penny then shrugged, "Ok Im always broke...", Lindy laughed, took the penny and tossed it into the air then catched it in her hand, "Heads or Tails?", his luck wasnt all that good either so he decided to let Lindy chose first, "Ladies first.". Lucky him, he actually won, unlucky him he had no money so Lindy offered to pay this time. The two made their way towards the cafeteria and hope its not too crowded, being dinner time and all.

As the salvage recovery unit listened on during the way back, there seemed to be a silent consensus as to why Guardian was there as a few, "Yep, I thought so" and "That's the way to enjoy life I say." Amongst the chattering the older soldier chimed in and commented, "Well, that's good and all, hell in my younger years I would of took the same opportunity ma'self... though you have to understand a lot of us are calling the beat up old ship 'home' since we have no where else to go." The chatter comes to a dead stop, "Like anyone here Im gonna fix up and defend my home, but anything foolish in the name of adventure you'll have to do yourself. Some of us have families to go back home to and it's not like this walking pieces of junk can put up much of a fight compared to yours."

The younger, nosy guy tried to interrupt, "Now now come on old timer, dont be so lectury..." "I'm not being lectury as you call it, and read a damn dictionary sometime... Im just tellin the plain and simple truth." "Well OK... if I was like 100 or so I guess my vocabulary would be better too! Guess I drink too much... like Im about to go get my fill right nowz!"

Waiting for Guardian was a message sent from the Ose:
Currently we're concerned with obtaining a source of fuel, a couple of large generators and backups for a frigate, and fixing the engines. While on Gaia you are free to acquire these pieces any way you see fit, within reason and without breaking Gaian law (more like, gettin caught). Lastly, technology for the fold system and pinpoint barrier system is gonna be a bit harder to come by. Although we're discussing it, the ASDF might be a source to acquire this from so keep a head up on their activities. Anything you send that we can't use will be sold in various means and redistributed to your account. Any questions then feel free to give us a holla. -Yakima

The cafeteria was fairly crowded at this time as the special of the day was teriyaki beef with rice. However, a lot of chatter seemed to be about what animal the 'beef' came from, but the place always seems lively. A lot of planars were sitting at tables with two black mandragora seeming to watch over the place. A moomba was serving the food and wearing a cute chef's hat that said, 'Another helping?' and then a 'Kiss the Cook' apron.

Pretty much a 'serve yourself' fashion, even at the minibar as someone shouted, "THE JUICE FROM THIS TABLE IS FOR THE VODKA NOT YOUR DAILY SUPPLY OF VITAMIN C!" There was some laughs as another shout came, "JUST SHUT UP, BE A MAN, AND DRINK IT ON THE ROCKS!" "OH, I'LL SHOW YOU SOME ROCKS!" Despite the shouting, nothing seemed really hostile just... boisterous. Other than tables in the middle were some booths and a small stairwell up to the other part of the cafeteria. On the upper floor was a lot quieter and seemed to be families eating together, a very different scene than from below.

Both Lindy and Danny reach the cafeteria and sigh as they look at the menu, Danny commented, "Damn...today is Teriyaki Beef with rice. That explains why the entire ship is here haha.", Lindy giggled then proceded to the start of the line while Danny followed, "During this day we are so wide open to an attack.", Lindy said as she helped herself to the food. The moomba that was serving the food heard her and chuckled with his arms crossed, "Laguna" (translation 'Heh, just goes to show you how good my cooking is little lady'), Danny nodded rapidly as he took in a whiff of his food and drooled. The moomba saw this and tapped the glass covering for the food with a spatula, "Laguna!" (translation 'Hey leave the drooling for when you are away from the rest of the food!'), Danny stepped back a little, "Sorry sir.". Once they had their serving and were walking to a half empty table a female's voice shouted from across the cafeteria, it was Lindy's 'rival' Elizabeth or so she claimed to be, "Hey Captain! Over here.".

Changing their walking direction towards the female and her group of friends, "Sit with us your majesty.", Eliza offered with a grin. Taking their seats a male in his late 20's leaned forward from the other side of the table and pointed his fork at Danny, "So I heard that you managed to crash the sim-plane the other day heh heh.", Danny grumbled and realized that word must've got out alot faster than he expected. "How's it---", interrupting the sentence with a slash from a butter knife at the young man's fork was Lindy with a not so pretty look in her eyes, "Danny may have crashed the sim-plane but I kicked your a** at your own game of cat and mouse a few days ago remember?", she finished with a grin. The group fell silent for a while then Eliza broke the intense atmosphere, "Alright come on guys, lets not start a food fight or else you know who gets to clean it up afterwards. Mack stop being such a jerk towards Danny.", frowning, Mack gave a sharp scoff then continued eating. Just another day in the life of mercenaries when it has to do with Teriyaki Beef with rice, gotta love that beef.

OOC Note: Moombas can not speak other than say, "Laguna!" in different pitches and tones. (Canon material from FF cool

While Lindy sits at the table with her company a pair of kids around the age of six or so come running up. It seems that they're playing until they stop to avoid crashing into the table. The little girl's hair is tied in a topknot with a pink bow and the boy has a 'bowl' cut. They blink at the grownups for a bit and then look towards the woman who just called Lindy and they both make an 'Oooo' sound, "Captain..."

Meanwhile back on the bridge...

Yakima and a female coworker are replaced as their shift ends and they start to make their way towards the cafeteria, "I hear it's teriyaki beef night..." the coworker replies, "Oh, should be an interesting crowd then. Though where did those moomba learn how to cook?" Yakima explains, "Oh well kind of like the mandies, we found a displaced group of them while travelling to different planes and Renzo just asked them to join. At that time we still have a normal home, if you dont include all the others... anyway, seems they enjoy reading a lot so we learned to tell them apart by what kind of books they like to read and the clothes they wear." The coworker nods, "Yea, that makes sense since basically they're all exactly the same." Yakima continues, "So yea, Cook is.. the cook, because he enjoyed reading cookbooks. I heard he'll make special requests if you give him something new to read." This by far is common knowledge to anyone with an open ear to chatter.

(( Back after an awesome weekend, ready and rearin to RP! ))

Guardian caught the last of the exchange between the older pilot, and the younger one... and replied "I know, its your home, and sort of a home away from home for me too... so don't worry about that. A good merc always keeps his s**t straight, if he or she doesn't, they end up either flat broke, or worse. Working hard is part of keeping things straight... but, who's to say that, after the day is done, you can't party as hard as you work? As to the 'walking pieces of junk', well, I bet, that given enough time, we could turn them into solid dependable combat machines, or if we worked hard enough, we could buy better ones... who knows... but you're right, they can't take what my baby here can... and thats why I'm here, to help make -sure- you can go home to your families, or party after that days work." He kept shutting systems down, slowly bringing the mech's main systems (except fpr the communications systems) into standby, as the message from the OSE flashed up on one of his secondary monitors. Glancing over it quickly he loosened the straps on his command chair, and started typing up his daily report.

RE: Daily report.

Finished excavations on crashed warship, seems to have burnt pretty bad upon re-entry, and the impact destroyed most internal systems. Still have teams scoutng the interior for salvage, but the prospects seem pretty bleak. On the up side, the hull plating and stcucture of the drive section seems to be fairly intact. Had some technicians run tests on the plating, should be compatible with what the Exeter is sheathed with. Other than that, we've been stripping out structural components, always good to have a stockpile of those. Will continue operations tomorrow, gonna focus on the drives themselves, find anything that we can use. Too bad the power core was amidships... its torn loose from its moorings and smashed up, otherwise, I'd say it could have been a stopgap powerplant. Thats about it for now. Send me any information you get about other possible sites to investigate besides the ASDF, I'll keep my eyes peeled, but I don't think we have the muscle to run ops on their turf yet.

OOC: That's kind of a moot point anyway. The ASDF already gutted that crash site and cut it up for parts and materials. It's kind of hard to repair a building when there's a capital ship sticking out of it, after all. sweatdrop

OOC: Ah. The only crash I'm aware of is the one Lindy rammed into the ASDF main base.

OOC: Might want to put it further away than the outskirts of Barton - the ASDF has a heavy presence there as the ASDF main base is only a short distance away - any crashes would have been claimed and stripped quickly.

OOC: If, however, it was on the outskirts of Aekea (for example), then the ASDF presence would be far weaker. The further away it is, the less likely the ASDF is to pull rank on it.

Lindy turned to look at the little boy and girl, "Oh what a cute pink bow, just like the color of my hair.", she said pointing to her long pink hair then offered them a cookie each and smiled, "Here, just dont tell mom ok", she winked then Eliza interrupted by turning around and crossed her eyes, flailed her arms around with a scary face, "Blah!". Eliza wasnt too fond of kids, for some reason they would always pick on her no matter how nice she treated them, deep down she still loves kids.

The salvage team members nodding and said their goodbyes as the called it a night. An hour later after Guardian's message was sent, another one came:

Good work Guardian, keep us posted on anything new you find. As for the ASDF and ops, that will not be an issue once 'he' decides to return. In any case we're not looking for direct conflict just as you noted, 'keeping an eye out'. There'll be a staff meeting tomorrow so we'll hopefully see you there.

-Renzo
------------------------------------------------------------------------

The children look towards Lindy and politely take the cookie as a voice bellows, "Im sure their mom nor dad wouldnt mind, Strawberry." the smug look of Renzo shines forth as the kids smile and run to hug his leg. He tosses a nod to Eliza and Danny, "Nice to see all of you here actually..." he grabs a chair and takes a seat as the kids both play with him by trying to wrestle his arm down, instead just hanging from it. He motions for Eliza to join as well and asks, "I need a favor so to speak."

Another grin comes from his face as he waits for some tension to build before continuing.
