Hi fellow Cybertronians,

This is my first post EVER in the Transformers guild, so please bear with me! I couldn't figure out how to jump in on a conversation in the normal guild or here, but I think I finally thought of a topic to jump start a conversation here, I hope!

First, here's a little introduction about myself. I've been a Transformers fan since it first came out in the '80s. My sister and I collected a whole giant box of them which is still in the basement today, so I haven't been tempted to buy any of the new releases or re-releases whee . I regret NOT getting Reflector though --;! I'm still watching and reading all the new Transformers shows and comics!

Anyway, onto the topic of conversation, hasn't anyone found it odd there aren't that many female Transformers? In the original '80s TV series, we were introduced to a few, led by Alita 1, still on Cybertron. The following series, after the movie that is, R.C. was introduced, but she was it.

In Beast Wars and Beast Machines, there were quite a few female Transformers, which I was happy to see since it gave a romantic twist to some of the stories and relationships between fellow Transformers other than leader and soldier.

Now, however, since Robots in Disguise as well as Armada and Energon, there hasn't been a single female Transformer in the bunch. I guess since these are all different universes than the previous series as well as from each other, one could surmise that there are just no female Transformers sad .

I know that many boy oriented shows tend to not have many female characters, like G.I. Joe. I do find it interesting however that in the new comic versions of G.I. Joe though, the women take center stage on many story arcs. The Baroness, for example, is a favorite among the writers it seems.

So I was wondering how do you guys feel about the lack of female Transformers through out the series?

P.S. Sorry for the long post sweatdrop .

Yeah, I think more female characters would be good for the TF series. I'm a huge Beast Wars fan and yeah, I didn't nottice until you mentioned it, that they have a pretty decent cast of female characters compaired to other TF series. Well, they didn't have "a lot," but they were good characters none the less.

Hi Knightforteen,

Yeah, I miss the interaction and chemistry between Black Arachnia and Silverbolt from the Beast Wars/Machines series. You can't find that in any of the other Transformers series, unless you count that one episode from the '80s series where Optimus Prime saw Alita 1 again! It would have been very interesting if they explored that relationship further in that series.

Indeed . . . I suppose that given the 'Allspark' or that they are machines, perhaps the writers have thought reproduction to be less of a coupling of bots and more of the simple construction and insertion of spark. crying

Having female bots is a great asset to the Transformers as a whole. First there is the plot twists and involvement from romanticisim. BlackArachnia and Silverbolt are a prime example (no pun intended to Aelita-1!). Another reason might be for marketing. The only female bot I have even heard of in quite some time is the toy of Arcee from energon- a motorcycle. I have serious doubts that she will make it into the show and frankly, that is just sad. Female bots might appeal more to the female children, making a broader fanbase/collector base.

Then again I have noticed over the past few months that the 'boy toys' section in toy stores is shrinking dramatically and the 'girl toys' section is overrunning the extra space. Do boys no longer play?!? eek

Hi Talon,

Yeah, sadly, as with most boy-oriented shows, there aren't that many female characters at all, and if there are any, they usually don't end up in the toy line. I remember back in the early '90s seeing a bunch of Yellow Ranger and Pink Ranger toys lying dormant in the store since no boy would want them crying ! When these boys grow up later, they take quite a different view of the female characters than they did as boys, which is probably why the artists and writers for the new comics based on old '80s cartoons like G.I. Joe, Thundercats, and He-Man, put a lot of emphasis on the female characters 4laugh .

As for the toy section, I say it's about time! You guys have been enjoying the '80s nostalgia boom for too long! It's time for us girls to have nostalgic '80s memories too blaugh !

Acree does show up in the energon cartoon series. Actually she did just last week (if you get YTV in canada that is). You are also leaving out Airazor and Tigertron from beast wars. They had a good thing going aswell.

Tranz- sure, until they were stolen by the Vok and fused.

slai- Hey, I am all for equality and having the girls remember fond things too . . . my daughter loves the 'My Little Pony' insurgence . . . I just hate to see the boys be pushed into a corner because of it.

The Tigertron/Airazor fling wasn't as interesting as Silverbolt/Black Arachnia. There wasn't any conflict or drama, just melodrama.

Hi Talon,

Don't worry! Toy advertisers still prefer targeting boys than they do girls for some reason, which is kind of sad for the girls sad . Moreover, we have yet to see any new incarnation of any '80s girl oriented cartoon shows.

Sonia whee who looks at both the girls and boys selection of toys just because!

P.S. for Tranz: I really wish they had more episodes with Tigertron and Air-razor before they were fused. They barely touched on their relationship before disappearing stressed .

The lack of female characters in the recent TF series bothers me as well......further proof that the people over at Hasbro/whoever makes the show are sexist bastards.

That aside, the only GOOD femme in the TF series has been Blackarahnia. (the Beast WARS version, not the wimp she became during Beast MACHINES) Silverbolt was a wimp in BW, MUCH too clichéd. Blackie was the reason he became interresting. Let's face it: Before BM came out and killed off the good personalities of all the Maximals, things were much better.

However, other femmes were too cliché for their own good. The original Arcee was, dare I say it, immensely stereotypical. That's basically all I wanted to say.

I will agree with you to a point. BW Silverbolt was cliched for a reason- his memory traks were damaged and unrecoverable. All he had to go on was innate senses and instincts. Did I enjoy him as a simpering knight, no . . . but it was understandable. Now, that given, the Black Arachnia from BW was indeed a wonderful char. I thought her personality was well played out. I only wish that she had lasted longer as a Transmetal.

I also agree with most of the personality shifts for Maximals in BM. Optimus turned guru is one of my least favourite moves. Rattrap stayed fairly much the same. He just lost all his weaponry, and had to improvise. Cheetor was better as the angsty Transmetal 2 . . . but I greatly enjoyed the emotional torment of Silverbolt after being reformatted from Jetstorm, and the development of Tankorr from the awakened spark of Rhinox. Those chars give me some of my favourite lines period.

In conclusion, though, sexism is running rampant, and it sucks. 3nodding

Well, that's Japanese corporations for you!

Don't forget the female HUMANS as well. There are a lot of those in the new Energon series.

Female humans aren't the same as female bots. They've had female humans in the seires before.

Thus far I am not impressed at all by the female humans either. stare

Hi guys,

I FINALLY saw Arcee of Energon show up in this past marathon this weekend biggrin ! What I found odd though was that Optimus said she was the FIRST female Transformer, evolved from the Omnicons. Ummm, does this mean that all Transformers will eventually evolve into female robots?! Yeah, yeah, of course it doesn't mean that, but I find it odd that Transformer evolution allowed for such an imbalance in the first place, sort of like particles and anti-particles are here in our universe.
