Aspen went to Mei Lien's room only to find her gone. "Darn it!" She left although he told her not to. Was she out with that boy? The one that sent her presents? He shook his head, it was time to tell Takeko what was going on.
Aspen went around looking for her and trying to calm down. It was bound to happen, right?

"Saffron? Could you hand me that bowl on the shelf, dear?"
"Sure, mom." The teen reached up, passing the mixing bowl to his mother before heading over to a chair to watch her cook.
"Thank you." Takeko smiled quietly to herself as she resumed her baking. Her son was growing so big, so quickly! It was amazing, if a little scary at the same time. She hoped he would stay around for some time yet. She missed Kane and Cabel dearly, and wished they might return for a visit some time soon. It had been so long since she'd heard from her other two sons. In fact...she hadn't seen Mei Lien in a while, now that she thought about it. Or Aspen. What could those two be up to?

Aspen heard noise in the kitchen and peeked in, "Takeko?" He saw her and smiled, "There you are!" He walked over and kissed her on the cheek. He wanted to tell her what was going on, but didn't really want to disturb her.
Aspen saw his son and smiled at him, "Hey, there! What are you two up to?" He felt bad that he hadn't seen them in while and didn't want to go into the Mei Lien situation just yet.

Saffron simply shrugged, leaning back in the chair. "Hey, dad. Not much."
Takeko giggled, turning and kissing Aspen's cheek. "Just doing a little baking, dear. Thought I'd try a new recipe. Here, try one!" She reached over and took one of the cookies from the first batch and handed it to Aspen. "Fruit and nut cookies. Very healthy; very tasty." She laughed, winking. They also happened to be low in sugar so as not to drive little Paes up the wall...

Aspen smiled and took the cookie. "Healthy cookies, huh?" He remembered eating cookies with his mother, it was nice that Takeko was doing the same for her kids. Aspen took a tenative bite, chewed and then swallowed, "Yum!" He took another and then took one to Saffron. "Want one?"

"Sure," he responded, failing to mention that he'd had three already.
Takeko raised an eyebrow with a knowing smile and shook her head. Boys will be boys, right? "So, dear," she said, turning to Aspen. "What have you been up to lately? I haven't seen much of you or Mei Lien lately."

Aspen just sighed a little at Saffron. He wanted to bond with him...but maybe it was too late?
"Oh, you know. Just doing a little of this...a little of that....making sure our girl doesn't get married..." He looked at Takeko with a frown. "She's ran off to see some boy!"

Takeko blinked a few times, absorbing this as her eyes widened in surprise. How unobservant had she been? Had she truely missed this much of her daughter's life? Why hadn't one of them told her about this at least?
Trying not to appear hurt, she hid behind her surprise. "What? Married? What are you talking about? What's going on?" Frowning, she set aside the tray of cookies and pulled over a chair to sit down. That old fear was resurfacing...that her children were once again going to grow up and abandon her...
Saffron simply raised an eyebrow at his father's comment. Wow...seems his sister was leading a much more interesting life than he was at the moment. He cast his glance around the kitchen for a moment. Yeah, sitting at home, watching Mom bake cookies. Thrilling. Half-shrugging to himself, he leaned back, one arm draped over the back of the chair as he watched the drama unfold. Nothing else to do around here.

"Well, I"m sure she isn't doing that yet..." He said to try and calm Takeko down. Aspen grabbed a chair and sat next to her. "There is a pae named Blake that we met when Mei Lien was still a child and he was a teen. Well, he seemed to like her a bit too much...he even sent her a present!" Aspen sighed and then put a hand on Takeko's. "Now that she's a teen too, she has run off to see him."

Takeko frowned, trying to take all this in at once. She had to remain calm and collected; no use in getting upset afterall. "A present? What sort of present?" she wondered aloud. Shaking her head slightly to clear her mind, she asked, "How serious do you think this is then? Should we go look for her? Do you think...he might harm her in some way?"
Saffron listened to all this calmly for a while, finishing his cookie. He walked over to get a drink of water before turning back to his parents and speaking up. "So, where do you think she's gone to look for him?" He wasn't exactly offering to go look for her just yet. He was just curious. Afterall, there were a lot of places on the isle...how could Mei Lien know just where to find this guy?

((If Saffron wanted to find her, she's now in the ORP of Lucia. Dia said she doesn't mind who rps there since she wants more paes to meet Lucia. xp ))
"I actually don't know. Mei Lien wouldn't let me look at it." Aspen said as he squeezed Takeko's hand. "I don't think we should be too worried yet. Maybe he's an upstanding young man?" He was now mad at himself for worrying his wife. He had worried enough for both of them already.
Aspen turned to Saffron, "I'm not sure where she would look or even if that is really where she went." Aspen sighed, "I hope she comes back and then we can ask her."

Takeko normally found comfort in holding hands with Aspen, but for some reason, that didn't seem to be working right now. She was too worried about her missing daughter. "Maybe, but we don't know that for sure yet. I mean, I've never even met this boy yet; how could I just assume that he has the best intentions?" She sighed, terribly tempted to just take off flying to go look for her daughter.
Saffron shrugged. That suggestion sounded rather...boring. He was looking for an excuse to get out of here and maybe find a little excitement or something. While his parents were busy fussing, he quietly slid his chair back and stood, walking out of the room. Maybe he'd look for Mei Lien, maybe not, but for now, he just wanted to get out of here. He'd spent far more than enough time sitting around the house and watching his mother cook.

"Well, maybe we should invite him over?" He didn't know she was going to take this so hard. It made him feel bad, "I should have told you earlier..." He was taking it now as his own fault. He turned around and Saffron was gone. "Now, where did he go?"

Takeko sighed, shaking her head. Now BOTH her children were missing? What more could go wrong? They really were all going to desert her.
Unconsciously, she tightened her grip on Aspen's hand, almost as if she were begging him not to leave her too. She was afraid of ending up all alone...even if she didn't quite acknowledge it.
"I...I don't know, but hopefully, he hasn't gone far." She was referring to Saffron, of course, but switched topics again in the next sentence. "Perhaps that's a good idea. And I'm sorry for over-reacting like that. I was just...taken off-guard, dear. If only I could meet this young man, perhaps I'd feel a little better about this whole situation. Do you know how we might be able to get ahold of him? Without waiting for Mei Lien, I mean. We could invite him over and get to know him a little." There was a sort of almost-desperation in her eyes as she grasped at this small bit of hope.

"I'm sure Saffron will be ok." Aspen said as she tightened her grip. He pulled her into a hug, "Everything is going to work out, you'll see." Aspen stroked her long hair like he used to to hopefully calm her. "I'm not sure. Maybe we could send him a message with one of our mellons?"
