Tales of Altera

Once long ago, when man still though himself alone on the planet as far as intelligent sought out over the distant horizons to find what they could of their planet. Their first discovery was the frigid brim, a seemingly infinite frozen wasteland that surrounded the world. After that for many centuries humans still thought they were alone, their curiosity pushed their technological progress forward to develop new ships capable of longer voyages. Then one day on a long voyage they spotted another ship on the horizon, not like any ever seen before. It was an elven craft. The humans made contact and suddenly their whole world changed. The elves admired humans thirst for knowledge and taught the humans how to build craft capable of intercontinental passage. The whole world was suddenly opened up to the humans who uniquely had, up to this point developed independently.

This however did not stop their curious nature and consequentially their exploring. They soon had led successful expedition to all of the six other continents forming the outer ring. Even though they now seen what the rest of the civilized races knew of as the know world they continued to push the boundaries.

Altera, the final continent, it was discovered near 2500 years ago in the utmost center of the world. Being surrounded by the massive Seleana Ocean and itself being relatively small for a continent had never been found up to this point. It was completely void of any know civilization. At first it was thought by many either a magical or religious holy ground lying at the center of the world. The entire continent, barring the inhospitable desert at its center, soon became populated. At first humans, from their home continent of Gaea, started exploring the continent, leaving outposts as they went. Other races, for their own reasons, soon followed in the population of the new land. Almost 200 years past with not much other than continual development. Altera had now become a colony of Gaea and almost a fifth of the human population now lived there.

Then the catastrophe occurred. Fire came raining from the sky upon Gaea. A start fell from the heavens and hit the continent. That which was left after the impact had been too damaged; the ecosystem had been pushed to far to recover. The humans that had survived fled to Altera where of which humans rebuilt their civilization. The colonies soon evolved into cultures and nation of their own, but the story of the land known as Altera was far from over.

It was a warm spring morning in Silanus and all of the soon to be guild members had finally finished arriving in town. The first two to make it to the Guild house were Mira, Adrian, and Tajara, all of which had arrived in town late last night after the guild house had already locked up for the night.

Of these three in was in fact Mira who arrived first. He training as a cleric of Pelor had often required her to be up for prayers at dawn. She returned to the guild house she had spotted the night before and quietly stepped inside. She was welcomed by a tallish young brunette wearing a pair of spectacles. After further inquiry she proved to be Diana Shira. She showed Mira to the common room and asked if she could wait a moment while she finished up some paper work.

Soon after two more figures found their way into the guild house. Tajara and Adrian both showed up at pretty much the same time. They too waited in the common room for a handful of minutes as Diana finished the paper work involved in officially registering a guild.

After a few more minutes Diana got the three signed up. She issues to each a small blue and silver badge with an insignia as proof of their member ship. She had been making arrangements with some local organizations and told the three that if they presented their badge at the Golden Dragon Inn & Tavern they should get free stay from the inn keeper, Ethan Brighton. She also mentioned she had a led on something happening down in Seawall, attacks from a lizardmen tribe of some sort and that she should have the info ready for tomorrow, until then they should make themselves at home in the guild.

Later that same day another two arrived in town to join the guild. Tourin and Affir both arrived by boat some time around noon that day. They two also met with Diana got their badges as proof of member ship. Now that all 5 adventurers had been sworn in, given keys to the guild house, and introduced to each other.

It was soon night time and the group headed over to the Golden Dragon to rest for the night. The next morning the group arrived at the guild house. Diana had left a note saying she was out arranging some kind of transportation for the group and to wait here for her until then.

He gave off a long, idle yawn as he laned back in the chair, his boot-clad feet were streched out over the table as he stared into the ceiling. His arms were folded behind his head as he tried to think of what, if anything he should be doing now that he neglected. Furnish the rooms in the guild HQ? Well, they were gonna get as furnish as they were, weren't they? Sharpen his swords? Yup, every day, after breakfast, just like back home. Weapons drills? Done after he took care of his swords. There was no paperwork left, and he got to know his new guildmates a Day prior. They seemed like an agreeable sort. Until someone actually needs the guild for something, maybe he should go see if he can assit them? Perhaps he got a habit of being a bit lazy with how quiet it was back in Argothima.

About the time he resolved to actually do something, by an accident of fate his balance was lost, shifting all of his weight back into the chair and sending both it and himself tumbling to the floor below with an audible thud. Tourin paused as he just stared up into the ceiling...he really hopes no one saw that..

A loud thud echoes throughout most of the guild. The sound instantly catches the attention of Adrian as he wondes the lower levels of the guild checking out areas where he could place traps later on. Curious as to what this noise was, he decided to find out where it came from. He walked to the area where Tourin was and stopped as he entered the doorway.

" I was setting up traps to train the newcomers and I heard a loud noise. Do you know what it was? " Adrian asked with a sly grin on his face as he noticed Tourin seemed embarassed about something.

"Hmm...?" He glanced up to the sound of Adrian's voice, with a smile that told of slight emberasment. "Oh, no...I've no idea..." Tourin pressed up and rolled to the side out of the chair as he climbed back to his feet, brushing away any dust and righting the fallen chair agian.

"Ah, actually, training the newbies...that's not a bad idea, mind if I help?" He is never going to live this down. But at least he wasn't bored anymore.

(The loud thump heard across the guild shakes Tajara awake from his chair.)

*yawn* "oh my i am sooahhh" *yawn* "tired Im not quite sure I will ever get used to this new sleep cycle. I suppose its the weather. Its so hot in the north you understand. We spend our time sleeping in the day and working at night to avoid it. The heat.

(after a few moments tajara head begins to nod but he suddenly jerks awake again)

*Affir leaned against the doorway with a regal expression on his face almost as if he was amused at the current events* "well it's a good thing that back at the monastary we trained our bodies not to sleep, so we don't have to adjust to new timetables and more time can be spent training"

*Affir then watched Tourin fall of his chair and walked towards the center of the room*

Adrian scratched his head slightly. " Well, I set up enough traps to keep the newcomer's attentions attracted. " The rogue said as he walked over and sat down on a chair. " We need to find something to do though til they assign us something. " Adrian mentioned as he leaned back in his chair against a wall.

For a moment, Tourin just stood staring at Affir for a moment with a brow riaised. He could be serious could he?

"Yeah...I guess we could do that....or we could do something that doesn't invovle destroying something we're gonna end up paying to replace...?" Yes, but that left them back to square one, and idle hands were the workshop of the devils... Oh, wll there's one idea. "Well, why don't we try and get to know one another better? We'll be working together in the near future, so it's ot a bad idea...who'd like to go first?"

A loud crack could be heard from downstairs. Adrian quickly recongized it as one of his harmless traps going off. A few moments later Diana could be seen enetering the common room; her hair was in a mess and she seemed rather upset about something...

"In the future it would be best to warn if you plan to set up traps down in the lobby. Anyways I have the mission for you that I mentioned yesterday. It seems down in Seawall they have been being raided by lizard men tribes from the Poreia peninnsula more and more recently. This is normally not that big of an issue as the local milita has always been capable of dealing with them. The problem is that recently the lighthouse near the tip of the penninsula seems to be inoperational and for some time now now one has been able to contact the family that lives there in it. Without the lighthouse it is far to dangerous for the large amount of commerce from the Grafikos islands to be sent by ship. Thus they have had to be redirected along the coastla highway. Which brings us back to the lizard men, with all the extra commerce it has become far easier to do small raids on merchants whoa aren't used to the region. Your mission will be to make your way accross the pennisula and attempt to fix what ever the problem has been at eh lighthouse. For transportation I have made arrangements with a friend of mine by the name of Enki Van der Zee. He will take you by boat as far as Lithos, but from there you will need to find some way to make it the rest of the way to Seawall. Any questions?"

Adrian ran his right hand through his long blonde hair as he thought about this. He pulled out a single piece of loose hair and dropped it on the floor. " Well, it sounds interesting. " He said watching the piece of hair fall to the floor. "But... I do have a question. " He continued as he stood up. He walked around for a moment with his hand on his chin, acting like he was thinking about something.

" What are the risks of this mission? Probaly lizard men right? " Adrian said bringing his hand away from his chin. He turned to look at Diana and crossed his arms.

Tourn took his usual stance when he was mulling something over, his hands at his belt with either thumb slipped behind the hilt of his swords. He glanced down and jutted out his lips as if he was deeply thinking, although about nothing in particular.

Finally he looked up to Adrian with a smile that betrayed his words. "Lizard men? Oh, my guess is that they'll eat us or something, but that's in a worst-case scenario, mind you. Anyways, I'm in, Diana." Well, who wants to live forever? Besides, it was this sorta thing that they were brought here for. He couldn't speak for the others, but the prospect sounded exiting, to be on the battlefield again. Plus, there were people depending on their help, and that made all the difference in his desciion.

"As long as I am properly paid for my services i'll help." *Affir thought to himself for a moment*

I guess burning lizards is better than furniture... I wonder... flesh itself isn't flammable but then how do living creatures burn, it must be thier clothing.....

"I'm sure you'll be able to provide a means of transport and supplies for the trip, do you have any weapons that we could borrow? magical weapons would be preferred."
