I was searching through topics when I found the Chronicles of Narnia listed and remembered that it was one of my first childhood tales that immersed me in the realm of fantasy and made me yearn to taste books forever more. This of course led me to think of my very first fantasy book...A Wrinkle in Time. I don't care if you are 10 or 65, you must read this book...and the others in the series (though I didn't much care for the land of many Waters). This is one of the greatest childrens fantasies of all time. Questions comments?.....

I may have read it in school. I can't be sure.

WHO HASN'T READ IT?!? domokun It's a classic and it's one of my many favorites. That reminds me, I need to re-organize my books since I've gotten some new ones.

I've read A Wrinkle in Time, A Wind in the Door, A Swiftly Tilting Planet, and Many Waters, all for school. They were pretty good books, not my favorite, but up there on the list.

I suppose I'm a bit of an odd one then. Many consider my choice of books bland, yet I was never fond of A Wrinkle in Time, or the books after it. And to the person who said that 10-year olds should read it....Well...I'll just say I don't know anyone that young who has a long enough attention span to read it. That doesn't mean there aren't any 10-year olds who have read it and enjoyed it, however. Believe me, I'm fond of science fiction and I read books by those with a professional career....Er....I can't exactly spell what L. Ron Hubbard's career was, but I know Isaac Asimov was a mathematician. Still....I found "A Wind in the Door" extremely dull, a little bland, and too slow at some parts. But...-sighs quietly- I suppose everyone has different tastes. I just prefer other authors....I never did like the author's works anyway...

*cough* I was in fifth grade when I read it, which I suppose means I was 11. Now that I think about it, a section of the book was in my fifth grade reading book as well. I remember pestering the teacher all year after she handed me A Wrinkle in Time to assign us that part of the book. *grin*

I loved all the books in the series, though, including Many Waters. I also enjoyed The Arm of the Starfish and another book about Calvin and Meg's children (though looking at Amazon I see that there are three or four about them, time to go to Barnes & Noble!).

I couldn't stand L'Engle's other series though. I don't think I ever got more than ten pages into the book about the Austins before I put it down again and went for something more interesting.

I've read the Wrinkle in time, infact, I finished it two days ago. But now that I have finished, I need another book, because I am back to my pitiful obbsession with Invader Zim. *shame*

But I really enjoyed the book. It was interesting, and it somewhat depicts what dreams can tend to be. And it makes you think, Is there life out there? There has to be, but that is another thread, in another forum!

Oh. I saw this topic, and I was so excited, "I should tell her to read Many Waters, too! That was my favourite book in the entire series!"

And then I saw that you didn't like it.

I do have to ask though, why didn't you like that one? I found A Wrinkle in Time dull at times, but I could never put down Many Waters - I've read it over 20 times, it's my favourite book, probably ever.

And RyuAijin, I understand totally. I hated the Austin books. Couldn't read them, they drove me nuts.

Though what was the one where the girl got trapped on an iceberg? Was that Ring of Endless Light? Because I really enjoyed that one too, I'd like to see if I can find it again.

Tempest,

OK, you've piqued my interest. I've gotta find these books. Are they hard to find?

It was probably one of the first novels I read. I never finished the series though, I lost interest because when I was younger I never read that much; which lead me to pick up the series while I was a little older, and then I found it too young for my taste. It was still a good book, and I suggest it to everyone!

It's not mine; I got it from my friend. She said it is from a cartoon called Animaniacs or something. I'm not sure if she is right though, she is not very reliable. Anyway, thank you for pointing this out to me; I forgot to put it in quotes and say it is not mine!! I don't want to be accused of plagiarism. sweatdrop
