Has anyone here ever had the pleasure to play solo with an orchestra? I have, and it's so cool! There's this director of the orchestra I play in, and he likes my playing, so he let me play solo with his other orchestras for two concerts! And I had more of those lucky chances! You feel so free and powerful to play the solo while the orchestra's following you! How do you feel about it?

It's very likely that no one has had that experience before, and does not want to post for fear of "fluffing."

I have once. It was a concerto thingy for four violins so I wasn't completely on my own but it was still the scariest thing I've ever done.

I don't ask only people who played with an orchestra, I also ask how people feel about it. would you like it or not, why do or don't you like it? I'm just curious to the opinion of others.

That is true.

I would like the opportunity, but have not done it myself. It seems like it would be valuable experience, and crucial to your success as a professional musician. xd

That's the first stap, that you want to do it. Many people find it scary.

this year i played the second violin solo in the teleman 4 violin concerto and the 2nd violin solo in corelli's concerto grosso 5. it was an interesting experience. they were both pretty easy so it wasn't that nerve racking, but it's especially hard to sight read solo parts.

I had the chance ealier this year with the Hoffmeister viola concerto in D... but the conductor said that "it wasn't good enough..." He gave me 1 week to prepare a piece to play so I prepared the Vanhal Concerto in C Major under a week. He liked that one, but the score and orchestral parts were $500! Needless to say, I couldn't afford it and neither could the school. So, I didn't get to sad I also entered in my college's concerto competition and got 3rd place sad So, again, I didn't get to play.

I don't know teleman for 4 violins, but at a project at school 4 people are going to play it. My teacher said it was a nice piece...

I played the first part two times, another violin part. I didn't play it in a concert, but the music was so cool!

I did. I was the concert master of my school orchestra as a freshman. I had the pleasure of playing this thing called a cadenze. For those of you who may not know a cadenza is when only 1 person is playing and everyone else is silent. It was so cool cause I could hear myself echoing around the auditorium where we were playing.
