Well this place isn't all for assignments and shiat! We can have fun forum convorsations too!
So to break the ice I figured I'd ask everyone what their motivation is for drawing, especially since the point of this group is to whip you into being more motivated. Rawr.
For me, I just feel it. The sudden desire to draw. It can come from reading, seeing, or hearing something. It's usually just really really sudden. My best work is usually not the work I force myself to do, but the stuff I want to do at the spur of the moment.
How about you?

Hello! I'm new here, and I'd just like to say that for the record...
Anyway, there is nothing in perticular that motivates me to draw...if I have a writting impliment of any sort in my hand I will doodle (last night at my SAt class, it was so hard to resist the urg to draw all over my test booklet... sweatdrop )I don't know. I tend to have 3 stories going on in my head and it's nice to be able to get those images down on paper exactly how I see them (haven't reached that point yet though...X_x;; wink
Just about anything inspires me, but I've found my best ideas come from when I'm in bed at night trying to fall asleep...O_o

Insomnia for me, too. Most of my drawings are started at about 3 in the morning. Other than that, I find I'm more motivated to draw for others than I am for myself, unless it's an abstract. Those are almost always stress driven.

I have the hardest time doing commissions because I'm like "Nuuu! I want to draw what I want to draw!" So that's why I joined the group when Reis told me about it. I figure this will make me a betetr commissions person.

Eilonnwy Really? I totally draw for myself. I have the hardest time doing commissions because I'm like "Nuuu! I want to draw what I want to draw!" I start drawings for myself often, but I end up actually only finishing the ones that are for other people. xd I've got so many unfinished drawings in the "I'll get back to them one day" folder that it's ridiculous. That's why I keep forcing myself to finish these assignments even if I finish them late. I'm hoping to break the habit.

simply put, i have no motivation. if it weren't for school assignments, i would nearly never bring myself to draw. hopefully, joining this guild changes some of my habits.
and also, i like reis, so i guess reis will be my motivation for now. <3

I draw my best pretty late at night, like around mid night.
I do my best work when I'm told to. Not exactly being told what to draw, but given an idea by someone, then I draw it out which would be better than what they had expected. It usually turns out better than what I thought it would be as well.
Usually all the drawings or paintings or sculptures that I do for myself, I never really wind up finishing them. sad
Other people's expectations are what motivates me I guess.

I like to say that some immense desire to create is the reason I draw, but really i think boredom has always been the reason i draw. So my biggest motivator is boredom. The problem is, I am easily entertained, so i don't get bored too often, and now that I'm on the path towards becoming a professional artist, i really should be drawing more. I do love to create, just not enough to spend lots of time doing it unless there is some other kind of motivation. If someone expects me to get something done, then that tends to get me to do it. Arr... um... i lost my train of thought. Most of my best ideas come late at night also, unfortunately, late at night i'm never in the mood to do any drawing, I just think "I'll do it tomorrow" and then just forget what it was I planned on drawing. there's always tomorrow, that is my curse. sad

I'm a slacker when it comes to motivation. I can finish and finish decently when I have a deadline to aim towards, otherwise it may lag on forever. It works that way for all aspects of art... music composition was done the night before the assignment was due... plushies get clothes the hours before I leave for a birthday party... costumes get finished the nights leading up to a convention and I pull an all nighter to finish them.
Sometimes I'm motivated out of nowhere... like when I finished an Ute Vasina Roland troll doll in 3 days (one day sewing, second stuff and assemble, third dress). There was no reason for me to finish, I just felt like it. But usually I'm right to a deadline.
And I'm not saying my rush jobs are half-a** either. No one can tell it's rushed except myself. I really want to break myself of that habit.
And I have so many unfinished projects. I can finish, it's just I'm not usually motivated to end them.
That being said... there's still two days left in the challenge, I'm a new member... and I'll probably take that challenge, working on it today and scanning it in by this evening. I already have something in mind. Now must... commit... to paper... blaugh

I often have zero motivation, but when I do have some, it's usually my perversions that motivate me.

I am most motivated to draw when there is a challange. I'm also motivated to draw when I see a picture that I really like or an anime.

I think of really great things when I can't sleep. The problem is, if I don't write it down before I fall asleep, I won't be able to remember it when I wake up.. Er, nothing in particular motivates me- it's kind of a spur of the moment type of thing.

when i see a really mediocre artist sell a buttload of art it motivates me. (ie. i can do that, so why am i broke all the damn time?)
when people say that somethings really needed (but of course, not commissioned from me) i'll tend to toss things together...
I'm currently motivated by an opportunity that has been afforded me to actually make advances in my (not much of a) career (yet)
