Okay, not yet. sweatdrop I need your help in deciding what our first contest should be. Please vote in the polls AND post your choice if you would, please. if you have other suggestions, please, feel free to share it.

There will probably be an entry fee for the contest to help pay for the prize. we also have to decide on the prizes.

In your replies, please post which one should be our first contest, the prizes that should be given, and other suggestions and comments if you have some.

Thanks heart

Self-portrait! smile I'm painting one for my boyfriend's birthday. It seems kind egocentric to give him a picture of me, but that's what he likes. And it's not like I can just buy him a video game 'cause he has everything.

ANYWAY, a self-portrait contest will help us get to know each other better 'cause we'll all know what each other looks like! So let's say, perhaps it would be appropriate for a first contest in a new guild to introduce yourself via art!

i chose the given theme one, just because its fairly simple and i think that for our first contest we shouldnt make it too complicated. hmm, now youre going to ask "but what theme?!" hmmm....we could go genre, like fantasy, realism, surrealism, abstract, etc. or we could choose some sort of holiday, or perhaps a setting like a bar-esque place, a forest, or something along those lines. anydangways....i hope this was helpful. im not that experienced in contests myself; just throwing out ideas.

edit: i like tatertot's idea too. i thought of self-portrait but then again...i've never done a real one of those, so it takes second to my experience. but its a good idea to get to know the group better.

in the flicker.

i'm just throwing out ideas as well since this is my first time organizing a contest. self-portrait may not be a great idea becasue not everyone wants to draw themselves or want to share with others how they look. but if there's enough vote on it, we'll go with it.

they all seem like good ideas to me. ahhhhhhh can't decide.....must.....have......more.....votes......*dies*

i agree with having the contest be very simple, portraits wouldn't be a great idea for the mere fact that they're very restricting, i think. and they're done so often anyway, there wouldn't be a point in hosting a contest for people to turn in things they've already done 50 million times.

someone actually mentioned this to me yesterday
a sort of game people could play, this could be turned into a short contest

the game consists of a group of people being given a sequence of words [they don't have to make sense in any way] and they would each do a piece based on what they gather from the words.

for example [easiest scenario - using one noun, one adjective and one verb]:
airplane
green
sleep

someone could maybe draw a group of clouds singing a green airplane to sleep
cabbages falling asleep at the wheel of an airplane and about to crash to their deaths

or just anything really, but this would be a lot more of an illustrative contest than a typical traditional one [traditional media doesn't necessarily translate to realism, i think it would also help a lot of people realize that]

doing something like this would require a lot more thought and would make the actual contest [+ entries] a lot more interesting/original. PLUS there is a guarantee that these images were made strictly for the contest and weren't gatherring dust somewhere before someone decided to scan and enter it.

anyway those are my 2 cents

I'm with maga, it's has to be something unique.
Either that or a poem/story to paint from.

hmmm. yes. that is a very good idea. when i get things orgainized, i'll start it. but i really want to know if anyone would actually participate in it. i'm not rich, so i don't have a lot to offer as prizes, so i have to figure that part out as well.

the only problem with that is not everyone wants to share their faces. we do have a self portrait sticky if you want to check it out

I think it would be very fun to try to do a period piece. Like, pick an era (renesaince, edwarian) and then do a scene from something that would happen during that period. Although, the random word thing sounded interesting as well.

These are awesome ideas! I'm not really into the idea of the fanart or famous person contest. When I draw people or portraits, it helps a lot to know about that person to draw them better, which would be difficult if I hadn't seen the show or met the person. Plus, it would also be harder to be original, at least for me.

For order, I think I actually like them in the order that they were written, with the exception of the aforementioned categories. Since others have brought up the issue of people possibly not wanting to draw themselves, maybe the avi art would be a good one to start with. We could have one of the guidelines be to have the piece also show a bit about our personality and interests to have that introductory factor in there.
