When new members are accepted to the Library they will find a small, carefully wrapped package waiting for them in their chosen quarters. Every clan member recieves this welcoming gift.

Once unwrapped each member will find a small, keyring sized device. This might prove somewhat confusing to them. On closer inspection each one has a small backlit screen, currently blank, a small button on the left, a long button on the right and a large button directly below the screen. The screen and side buttons are covered with a protective plastic screen, transparent to allow the user to view the screen but preventing damage while it is not in use. This cover flips up in a clamshell design when required. The largest button remains uncovered to allow quick access.

The device is accompanied by a small set of instructions on use.

How To Use Your New PAD (Personal Alert Device).

Your new PAD replaces the old prototype devices several clan members had been issued. The PAD allows you to instantly alert and locate any other clan member, or all at once.

General Use
In order to contact another clan member the steps are simple:
1 - Open the protective cover and press the small left hand button to open the menu. A list of clan members will fill the screen (an accompanying diagram indicates which button and shows the screen filled with thumbnails of the clan members' faces). You can also contact all of the clan at once by selecting the thumbnail with the clan insignia.
2 - Use the long button located on the right to scroll up and down through the list until you locate the clan member you wish to contact.
3 - Press the large central button to open up the options for that clan member (a diagram here shows the various options such as
Emergency, Important, Assist and Hello).
4 - Select the correct option for your situation and press the central button to confirm and send.
5 - Once your alert has been ackowledged by the receiver your screen will display a radar-like image, with a bright arrow indicating the direction of the other clan member. Other nearby clan members will also show up as small dots when within 500 feet of your location. Once the member you have alerted enters within rage the arrow will change to a larger, flashing dot.
At any point you can press the small left button to cancel and return to the main menu.

Receiving A Call
Upon recieving a call the caller's image will appear on the screen accompanied by the type of call written below their face and the background colour reflecting the urgency of their situation (a diagram this time shows several screens - one with Guyy's face and the word EMERGENCY below it, the background colour flashing bright red. Another shows his face but this time on an orange background and with the word MEETING below. The Final image shows his face on a green background with the words COFFEE below). The device can also be set to beep, vibrate or both to alert you to an incoming call. Simply press the central button to acknowledge. The screen will display the radar screen to enable you to locate them.

Options
The various clan member options have sub-menus. These sub-menus have several default states to choose from or can be customised to convey any state to the reciever. To enter the customisation menu, press the small left hand button and hold it until the menu screen shows (a diagram shows this menu and such options as Vibrate ON/OFF, Sound ON/OFF, Member Thumbnails ON/OFF, Custom Message and Default Idle Background).

EMERGENCY
This will show up as a red background. Default emergency states include:
Attacked
Serious Injury
Captured
Out of Beer

IMPORTANT
This will show up as an orange background. Default important states include:
Meeting
Minor Injury
Trapped
Out of Ice-Cream

ASSIST
This will show up as a yellow background. Default assist states include:

HELLO
This will show up as a green background. There are no default hello states. The custom message screen will show and allow you to enter your own message.

EXTREME EMERGENCY SITUATIONS
In an extreme emergency when there is no time to select an accompanying message or look at the screen you can press and hold the central button for two seconds. This will automatically summon every clan member with a flashing red screen. Only use this feature in an absolute emergency

Please take time to familiarise yourself with these instructions and try to keep the PAD with you at all times. Be safe!
