I ask this because I'm curious- I've just been painting runes onto my besom this morning, and I wanna know what everyone else's tools are like. ^_^ Wands, athames, rune tiles, chalices, pentacles, altars, whatever- photos or written descriptions are good- share with me! xd

My wand (and people may think this is crazy) is a wooden sword made of cedar plywood. My runes are etched into rounded out decoration marbles (yes I'm a dork like that muhahaha). And my pentagram is sterling silver with blue saphires at the points of the star and runes etched into the circle. I wear it as a necklace as well.

xd A sword for a wand does sound a little odd! The decoration marble thing is a good idea- wish I'd thought of that when I did mine... (Would have been SO much easier sweatdrop ). Even just going by the description, I'm envious of your pentacle. crying

My wand is made from a twisted piece of some form of tree down at a nearby beach- a friend was absent-mindedly pulling the bark off, and I asked her if I could have it. She was fine with it- she was only using it for entertainment purposes, and so I kept it, and revamped it. I sanded the remaining bark off, and set a white opal in the tip, two garnets in the stem, and a piece of peach moonstone in the base. It's about 20-30cm long (so specific xd sorry, I'll take a photo eventually, to give a better idea), and I love it. heart

My rune tiles are made from skirting board xd , but it's cool, because it means that the non-carved sides have the same pattern on them. They're a light, yellowish wood, and I filled the carved out bits with black ink. Each tile is about 3cm wide by 4cm high, and they're about 1cm thick.

My pentacle is a silver one of this: http://www.trademe.co.nz/Home-living/Lifestyle/New-age-spirituality/Other/auction-58251629.htm
It's actually a painted plaster mold thing, which annoyed me a bit when I finally recieved it, but it still looks good.

My Chalice is a tarnished metal one- simple, but looks good. I like the tarnished look, but I recently discovered that I didn't like the tarnished TASTE, so I'm gunna be polishing it soon... ninja

...That's all I can think of (for now, anyway ninja )

EDIT: Sorry for the page stretch! redface

My mum got me a sword from Japan after she went with an intermediate school one year... sounds cool right? Well it's actually quite badly painted and not sharpened (she would NEVER give me a sharp one x_x)...
Anyway... Jess brought up the point that it might make a good athame?
It may not be as bad as it sounds...
I'd prefer an expensive one and I'll get one, but for now, I donno...

For anyone with a taste for blades, it's a Wazukashi- I'm not sure if the length is standard, but what would you say the length is, Vaughan?

From what I've read, an athame is a black handled, non-sharpened ritual blade- it seemed to fit in my mind.

The Athame is also double sided though.

Oh yes... Definitely a passion for blades from my side... I don't mean that stereotypically emo "the razor is my best friend" kind of blade... But I am in love with daggers and swords. Daggers of all sizes (not all shapes - I HATE Fantasy styled weapons, they're so unfunctional. They turn everything around that can possibly be turned around, give it swirls and god knows what and make it completely useless. rolleyes ) and swords only 1 1/2 handed european styled swords and also rapiers. I also find Katanas very beautiful (darkrock64, do you train kendo anywhere?) but, because I feel very little connection to Japanese culture, it ends there.

Strangely enough, I don't actually own a dagger or a sword. I often take part at medieval faires around here and finding someone to go up Czech and bring one of them home isn't a problem, it stops with the finances. Also, I would never use it as a magic tool... I'd use it for practice.

I don't really have any tools, I just make do with whatever is availible, I've never had a problem with it... Well perhaps, if these count as tools, I made a rune set a while ago. Out of pebbles from rivers, mountains and the sea. It took a while to get enough of them together because I didn't decide one day and say: let's go pick rune stones, but I brought a flat stone home every once in a while. It's a complete rune set now... And I love them smile

Also, there's my Viking Tarot Deck with which I am completely in love. I am planning on setting up, a type of an altar, I suppose... More of a decoration, a reminder. I want to make Yggdrasil. I've been thinking about the design... And I've been roaming between two versions: I get a branch or a bunch of brances, ask my dad to make something I could put it on and then hang cloth flowers on it, or ask my dad to do a mini version of a design I fell for while I was in Czech. It was a metal tree about 1,5m in height... Beautifully designed and it had round candles on it... As fruits. Beautiful. I'd like that, but on a smaller scale, so I could put tea candles on it. That probably won't happen though.

Ah... One of my practice partners used to train swordfighting with Katanas... He always talked of it as Kendo, I figured that was it.

And I'm not familiar with the term "stave" in English. Please elaborate.

I didn't start practicing swordfighting to connect to my past strengths... I was in that group of people for years, all swordfighting, I loved watching them, those of them who were good at it had such immense elegance that it was a joy to see. I had to give it up unfortunately. Money issues mostly.

staves is plural for staff
as in a staff like the ones wizzards and sorcerers use
