Okay, I recently saw the musical (?) West Side Story. Personally, I thought it was kind of lame and just a rip of of Romeo and Juliet. Anyone else have opinions concerning this topic?

West Side Story is based off Romeo and Juliet. o _O;

I've never personally seen it, so I can't really comment, but my cousin's school did it in high school and she thought it was good. -shrugs-

Well there's the problem. It practically is Romeo and Juliet. That's why I don't like it. It was beautiful and all, but Juliet had no backbone whatsoever. She was so weak. Suicide is a foolish answer. So I thought all the characters in R&J were idiotic.

I admit that suicide is not the answer, but since I'm a sucker for tragical romance, I couldn't help but cry at the end.

(Anyone seen the 1968 or something version of Romeo and Juliet they did with people the real ages of the characters? I was bawling like a baby, the acting was so good!)

I guess you kind of have to remember when it was written (not that suicide was any less frowned upon back then, but it was meant to be a tradgedy. And women were pretty much chattle).

My friend and I watched it at her house and made fun of it the entire time.

Anyone else think that blonde guy in the Jets looked like Beavis from Beavis and Butthead?

They looked like they could all use a long shower, too.

Really good version, and also (coincedentally) the first one to use teenagers as Romeo and Juliet. Though it is as old as my parents, its my favorite version of the play EVER. I liked it better than the Leo version! (And me, being a Leo fan, that's saying a lot.)
(I saw it first in 7th grade, and I think this was actually the first movie that made me cry...)

Eh, I must say, I don't really like Romeo and Juliet as a love story (even though it's a classic) because it's so unrealistic--love within three seconds? Come on...

The 1968 version was much better than the one with Leonardo DiCaprio, though. :B
