The WoT series has been a pet reading project of mine for several years now. I came across the series through a friend who raved about the first several books. He mentioned to me that after the first few, he got a little bored with the characters and found Rand to be getting a bit pretentious.

Has anyone else had this problem? Or any problems like it? I'm on book three myself and I am still in love with the series so I can't weigh in on this.

Thoughts on the series would be more than welcome here. Lets chat about the Wheel of Time!

Well...I've read all the books taht are out, and they're pretty good. You're right on Rand getting pretentious, but it doesn't stop there...trust me...he keeps changing and changing until WHAM!! You get hit with a realization of how different he is from Book 1...and how he probably will be at Tarm'on Gaidon...

I really can't say a lot without spoiling...I suggest you keep reading..and then at about book 9, you can post your opinion for yourself here...because while I didn't really notice this, a lot of critics say that it's the first 'filler' book.

Anyone else have thoughts?

...I'm at Lord of Chaos right now, and its the last published in the Italian version, so I have to wait at least a year for the next. gonk

...I just keep buying one after the other, even the one-year wait can't keep me from buying the next one.

...So, I guess I still like the story. xd

I Love this series, even though it tends to get kinda political towards the later books confused

I hear alot of people complain about how long it is, but isn't that the good part? it's more to read rofl
(ok, that's the first and hopefully the last time I ever use that Emoticon, and if I do, someone please hit me -_-; )

oh, I intend to, it's not often I can let loose about my bookish obsessions

on topic though, if nothing else I would have to read this series to completion just to see what happens with Mat biggrin
he's undouptably my faverate charicter
(I'm a big fan of small time adventurers, that why it saddened me when Rand and them got so tied up in politics -_- )

I feel books 6,7, and 8 could have been combined not one because there were no plot transitions and realy it doesn't get back onto track until Knife of Dreams.
P.S- Does anyone know how many of these books he plans to release for this series.

I wanted to like them so much, but...I just barely got through the first one and couldn't bring myself to continue. A friend who had recommend the Sword of Truth books to me also recommended Wheel of Time. Well, I loved Sword of Truth and she said if I loved that series, I'd love WoT. I'm not sure why...maybe I just wasn't in the mood for it at the time of reading, but I just found it slow going and the characters never grabbed me. Still, there's a reason why so many people love the series. Maybe I'll try a second go at it in a year or so.

Yeah, I just finished Crown of Swords for the first time a few days ago... i agree, Rand is getting pretentious. It pisses me off, He doesn't have enough of Perrin for my tastes, he is my fav character.

These are all really good responses. Thank you! And keep reading and posting here!

I'm just about to start the next book in the series. I just have one book ahead of it.

A great series, but not my favorite. I don't mind them being long, it's just hard for my feeble mind to remember everything that happened in all the books and it takes a while to read the whole series. I would very much like to smack Rand for being an enormous stupid head and then hug him for all he's been through. In the latest book my favorite part to read were the bits with Matt and Tuon, partly because I want them to get together and also you can see how Matt himself is changing. No one in the series is completely the same as they were at the beginning, which in a way is sad I suppose but not neccesarily bad. I think if I were to choose any ajah I would be a Brown; I have a feeling there would be many like that here.

To the one who said there isn't enough of Perrin:

At first there isn't, but in the more recent novels, there's a lot of him.

My favorite characters in the series are ( with the reason way next to them) -
Rand- The main hero come on how can you not like him also I liked it when I realized his family ties with some of the other characters. ( don't want to give spoilers away here).
Min- Shes just so exciting and not as motherly as Elayne or as strict as Aviendha( sp? )
Mat- He's the average person with average wants and needs unlike the other taravan. Also I see a sort of kindred spirit in him.
Flail- Only reason I like her is that shes tough on Perrin and keeps him in line also she takes away from the ammount of Perrin chapters. blaugh
