Android Lab

(Android repairs Job)

Here is the work room for those fortunate enough to get a job with the Android repairs. Spare parts, wires and tools are all organized neatly on the wall and along the counters.

There are a few huge tables with mechanics that are used to hold the bots still. These are for all the repair jobs. Along the end are cubboards full of the neccesary cutting tools and mesuring stick for the wires and such like.

If you would walk to the counters outlining the room you would fine drawers and organizers full of the smaller mechanical pre-built parts that the part-timers would use for their jobs.

If anything extra was needed, there is an intercom attached to the wall beside the door. This connects directly to the supplier's cell phone, this way aid could come swiftly and efficiently.

Rivera stretched... it was about four o' clock in the morning... but she came anyway. She hadn't been able to sleep since there was some sort of bug with her reaction to the half moon and the pull of the tides. She had spent three restless hours reading up on android repairs for the job while she was awake, but finally, she just gave up and came here to do the actual job... Hey, there's only so many times one can read through five volumes of robotics before they slam the books down.

It's been a while since she did anything with technology. Chaos and steel combined with her space powers were able to allow her to utilize a completely ridiculous power--the ability to connect directly to technology. It hurt to do it, but it was still worth the pain. Rivera was used to pain anyway, so she's practiced with her home appliances--the microwave and the fridge. There wasn't much else she could used besides her computer, which was reluctant to cause her pain at all. Machines had lives, just like living creatures. They just didn't show it as much.

Rivera sat down by a work table and began to work on her first piece. There was a cleaning droid she knew that always worked down in Wingardia Hallways, except it had been replaced. She quickly found the exact same bot and held out her arm. "Renerva, jontyure." the cleaner bot turned on by itself and extended a few thin wire cables. Rivera gritted her teeth as the wires penetrated her skin and linked directly into her nerves. She held on until they were all in place before setting to debugging the database problems. After that, she'd work on the odds and ends that didn't have to do with the bot's memory.

Miwako was sleeping quite sounldy, curled up in a small tiny ball. Where she was sleeping was quite pecuiler, as she was in a small metal cabinet drawer, why she was sleeping in there it was unknown. She was wrapped up in a few wires, cuddling a wrench in her hand.

Hearing a clang she was woken up from her deep slumber, turning around she fell out of the cabinet,a few wires and knobs falling out with her. Her long pink curles flowed down her back as well as the little yellow ribbons that were woven through her locks, she watched something quite amazing, her eyes widened with surpise, she hadn't seen such an act in a long time. If she had was right, this was one of her workers. Riyoku-chan ne?? She looks like the girl in the shcool picture the job applications supplied...

Peeking her head over the counter, her skilled crystal blue eyes examined the robot. X-439. Was in the cleaning unit ne?? Her eyes went over the wires,as they seemed to be connected to the girl, going through her skin. She had seen this only a handful of times, and she had to travel the whole world. She had always been envious of the people who had these powers. Hopping onto the cold metal tabel, careful not to step on the cleaning andrioid Miwako smiled her sweet smile that would belong to a child,as she touched the andriods face softly. "Guess you get to save some money, not spending it on tools ne??Hee hee."

Stixon pattered her way down to the adroid repair labs slightly running, she couldnt be late this job mattered to her,she couldnt let herself slip up.
Damn damn damn she thought looking this way and that, she was caught at a cross point in the buildings and wasnt sure which way to turn next, hopping on the spot she needed to keep moving, her fluffly tail bobbing up and down and twitching impatiance. She was wasting precious time, she had to be early, she was going to have a great first impression. Waving an arm though the air erratically as a means of random selection, she dashed off haphazardly to the right where her arm pointed.
Her scarf trailed out behind her as she jogged down a hedge lined side path to a building.
Android labs! she read, Success! she lept into the air with joy only to lose her goggles on a low hanging branch, snagging them and catapulting them high up into the air and though an open window of the labs.
A clatter issued from inside the building as Stixons goggles found earth again inside. The shouting that followed gave her that sinking feeling.
What a great first impression she thought, practically dripping with sarcasm, and walked slowly and dejectedly through the open door and into the labs.
Inside she saw a girl hooked up with a selection of wires to a android,
I hope thats not one of the job skills i need She thought rubbing her back at the thought. The android seemed to be a cleaning machine one of the X types anyway, Stixon wasnt sure which though. She hated to admit but her knowledge was lacking in certain types of android, which was mostly cleaning types, they lacked that certain somthing that most Androids or robots had which made them appeal so much to her.
Stixon needed to work, thats what she was there for and soon found a android with which she knew somthing about. a C-2S4 Reception android. With one arm hanging but for the few wires which held it in place, this looked like an easy first task to get warmed up with. At least it would help her find out where all the different tools were.

Rivera smiled and nodded, then closed her eyes, letting her mind sweep through the system like a computer itself. Her mind raced with euphoria as the numbers passed through over and over again. It was like the rush of adrenaline, except calmer and more fluid. She opened her eyes as she found a strange glitch. Both of her eyes were lavender-blue. Two nested dials of light spun around and around within them at a moderate rate of one spin per second. It kept on turning itself over and over again until the light rings merged and collected into a single, solid ring.

"Targeted..." She whispered. "Zylaphe, Sylphen, Caraphen, Pyrefen, Cyndicace." Rivera whispered the given names of the pentatonic checkpoint system she created herself. It was fail proof again all modern technology at the moment, a perfect checkpoint for a binary system. She found the source of the glitch as a misplaced binaric sequence, which she patched up within a few moments. "Finee." She whispered at last, and blinked. Her eyes were void of the extra light.

As her eyes opened, the wires left her arm. She lifted it and tested it... her arm still hurt around the skin and was numb. The electric flow had been a tad too strong from the over eager piece of technology. Rivera patted it on the hull and turned it off before she set to checking the mechanical aspects of the bot. It should be fine mechanically, nothing looked missing... just a bit scratched. That was nothing some polishing and waxing can't fix. Setting down the bot on the counter for the fixed items, she picked up a new robot. A cook bot, it seemed... She better get this one right, or it might burn the mashed potatoes.

The bot was covered with a few burn marks, but she was fine with that... Here we go again... "Renerva, jontyure."

Tomoro's eyes glistened as she entered the Android Lab... so long it had been since she had feasted her eyes on the wires, the oil, all of it. Coming directly from the church, she was clearly in no condition to perform manual labor, as her burns were now a sickening red color. Despite that, work always came first... that's how it was in the real world. Absolutely no chances to get a break and relax. Seeing as how she had never had a job before, this was bound to get exciting, as painful as it might be. Tomoro had always loved mechanics, however, even when she was a small girl; it just smelled so... she didn't know how to put it, but it gave her peace of mind.

Carefully, she made her way over to a hard metal chair, sitting down in front of a desk that held many spare parts. Closing her eyes for a moment, she thought of all the androids on campus, and furrowed her brows. There was a particular android near the greenhouse... it was growing old with rust, and was used to pick up trash around the area. Unfortunately, it had stopped working altogether, and oil had begun to leak from it, killing the grass around the place. Tomoro had taken a closer look at it once, and had figured out its oil recepters and the mechanisms that caused it to move were old and falling apart from rust. She'd start on that.

Smiling to herself, the thought of actually fixing something like old times caused her heart to beat, and she extended her hands out, picking up a pile of screws and different parts, wiffing her hand around, the parts seeming to fly together automatically. Hey, they were made of natural materials; she was an Earth manipulator, it was all good. Grabbing a screwdriver, Tomoro's pale eyes feasted upon it, and she moved a screw over its designated hole and began to drill it in. In no time, a small steel box was made; now all that was left to do was create the oil mechanisms.... that would be slightly difficult.

Standing up, she dashed quickly over to a small box filled with what seemed to be little wheels, and sifted through them, finally picking up a large one labeled X-147. This was the one! Moving back over to her seat, she sat down, and inserted the wheel inside of the box, then slipping it onto the robot next to her. Hopefully it would work correctly... She also turned the chair around, and grabbed a towel and some shining liquid. Pouring a dab onto it, she began to rub roughly on the surface, grease and dirt coming off almost instantly, covering the soft rag with a black stain. Just a little bit more... and she could move onto the next bot.

Seeing yet another worker come in Miwako smiled so big it seemed like it was even past her face, but the girl went straight to work,as the next person, though Miwako was a bit worried about the burn marks. But they all seemed content with what they were doing with their own hands, and at least they knew what they were doing as well, which made Miwakos job much easier. Though Miwako was a bit disspointed, she was looking forward to a lively conversation, she was usually alone in the lab, working for horus on end, talking to herself or the androids.

As she jumped off the table she went to the counter, she couldn't believe how early it was,it should be aroudn 4:30 a.m now. Rubbing some sleep from her eyes she examined the little android infront of her. Just on a little metasl slab, just the size of a school text book. Of course, the little blue pony tailed android was about as tall as a pencil. She decided to work with this one, since it would take an expert like her to fix it,aslo she was quite knowledgable when it came to compain androids, they were the most complicated.

She looked at the papers beside it,which explained what the problem was. It was going to be hard, she was going to write half of its data, save it on the databse, reboot it,and fix her right arm and left leg, which seemed not able to move, and all the whiel not messing up her main data and totally ruining the androids state of mind, and who she was. And all not breaking the delicate little android into half, whos dead blue eys stared up at Miwako.

Slipping on her goggles,a long wire attatched to it,she opened up the small mechanical ear and connected the wire. She opened a cupboard and pulled out a small laptop, connecting a wire to the little androids ear as well,Miwako started typing up the data. She had remembered the whole code for this unit of androids, after many months she had memorized every single word. Typing wildly for about 15 minutes straight Miwako stopped to sigh, cracking her neck.

Miwako has to do this!!This little androids life depends on Miwako!! FUMPF!! Determined once again Miwako went rigth back at it,her eyes concetrated as the words and numbers flashed before her eyes,on the glass of her goggles. She kept on typing wildly, her long fingers taping at the keys like a mad man, though every one and a while she look over at her worker bees, twiching her nose she stopped typing. Sghe took otu a small screw driver from her belt pouch, and a few screws, first working on the leg. She typed with one hand,to make sure yhe signal went to the leg when the android needed it to move. The electrictity had to go down one certain wire,to move each joint, and each wire needed a different code. Humming a little tune Miwako kept on working.

Rivera finished with the cook bot and picked up a rather battered looking android... she didn't know where it came from at all. Checking the serial number, she noticed that it was so old, the numbers had rubbed off... Apparently, this was dug up after a long wait in the repair box. "I wonder you even turn on... poor little guy..." She rubbed some of the dust off the shell. To her surprise, it was perfectly shiney beneath the dust. The android was like a bunny shaped egg with small wings. It was so cute, but old... Maybe it belonged to a studen who just discarded it. Rivera suddenly had a sudden compulsion to fix whatever's wrong with this robot. Her mind quivered with an anticipation, she knew that it held some unknown strength inside... it was a special android.

There was a faded ribbon on the robot's long bunny ear. Rivera blew off the dust and coughed a little. She immediately felt dizzy, already with a low level of blood. Her head spun while she tried to regain her control. With a careful look, she make out the words of a card on the ribbon. "To Nakatashi-chan. Anata ga skideiyo..." The card and the ribbon were in perfect condition. This must've been discarded before it was even used. She wondered who Nakatashi was and who gave it to her. She knew it was from a lover or admirer... but it was just so mysterious...

"Don't worry, I'll do my best...Renerva, jontyure." She whispered to it. Nothing happened. "Renerva, jontyure... Renerva... " Rivera sighed... it probably didn't have an energy source. She looked for a recharge input and allowed for her own electric energy to flow into it, drained from her personal life force with special loving care that she doesn't even show to humans. "Renerva... Renerva!" Rivera whispered hopefully, and after several moments, was rewarded with the sudden blinding of lights on the LCD panel of the face screen.

[Konichiwa! Watashino Usagahana Desu! Hajimemashit--] There was a snapping sound and a crackle when everything just froze... Rivera looked at it sadly, "Jontyure..." Even the wires that connected to her were weak. She did her best to relax when its slow movements and irregular electrical impulses caused her excruciating pain. It allowed the wires to settle comfortably with her nerves.

"Okay... " Rivera took a deep breath when the pain stopped, "Let's see what the matter is... " She controled the system with her mind, opening points without the use of a tool. Tools often damaged a robot. She looked inside the inner components, quickly determing the general composition of the robot. There were several wires to be replaced and a short circuited motherboard to fix. She set to work with efficiency and precision. This was the most intricate work of robotics she's seen in a long time... she wanted to know its story. Replacing drives would take its memory, and she didn't want that. Rivera knew one thing for sure...

... she's going to stay here until the 'Usagihana' is fixed.

It was quite late already... Rivera had been working on the robot called 'Usagihana' for a long time now... 10 hours to be exact. She had solved many of the problems, but it wasn't even close to half... one of the problems involved a mangled memory. There was a certain pattern to which it was distorted... All the mechanical problems had been solved. All that was left to do was to crack the pattern... it was a strange pattern that would've taken ages to write up in a computer system, so she had to go through it manually, inputting the digits by her own mind and solve the pattern with her own brain.

It wasn't all too hard, just long and tiring. By the time Rivera checked the time, it was two in the morning... it seemed like the others weren't going to stick around that long... but she stayed to keep on working on Usagihana. It seemed that Usagihana is one of a kind. Only she has seen a quatrinary system before, the rest of the world hasn't really even gotten to trinary yet. She had developed the system herself, because of her spatial affiliation. They were a requirement when drawing the circle spells for alchemical ratios in various rituals. The Atlantean had technology far beyond human civilization. She retained the talent passed to the Atlanteans though her space ability.

At around four thirty in the morning, Rivera had fallen asleep over the robot, its cables still merged into her arm. She hasn't slept for a full 24 hours, and Rivera needed the sleep. If not, her body's immune system breaks down entirely and she has no choice but to be hospitalized for therapy or blood transfusion. Rivera hated the hospital.

Miwako had gotten a bit tired, having fixed about 7 androids today, all very complicates messes. She had gone out ,slipping the androids into little carts that she had made herself. It had taken a good hour to get them all back to their owners.

When she came back to the lab to take a break, since she usually slept in one of the drawers or on the ground she was surprised to still find one of her workers. Blinking she walked over to her, peering over her shoulder carefully. She was asleep alright, she looked so peaceful at the momment, even though wires were sticking right into her.

Looking at the android she was fixing Miwako rose an eyebrow, surprised that she couldn't think of its unit. Which was almsot greater then all the wonders in all the world, since Miwako has spent years learning about robotics, she was one of the veterans to creating the main database, but something was bugging Miwako,at the back of her mind as she tried to think of what was troubling her.

Giving up Miwako looked around a bit before she found the blanket she usually slept in,pulling it over Riyoku Miwako smiles softly, petting the little bunny modeled egg. Miwakos has a feeling you've been waiting to be fixed ne??Just wait a little longer..okies??

Stixon walked through the doors to the android lab more calmly than the previous day, to find someone looked to have slept the night. She even had a blanket over her and seemed to have just drifted off while working...that was dedication.
'I know i like the machines but even i have my limits, i admire you girl'
said Stixon grinning. She looked from the drowsy girl to the robot she had been fixing. Stixon had to admit she had never seen anything like it and wouldnt have a clue how to even go about trying to fix this one. She patted it gently with her hand and oddly it felt warm to the touch, with shock she withdrew it quickly and silently looked to Rivera to see wether she had seen her surprise, thankfully it diddnt seem so. Stixon decided to leave the odd little robot alone, she was out of her depth with that one.
Stixon looked to Rivera who she only just noticed was a slightly pale colour.
'Not had much sleep eh? and im sure telling you, you ought to sleep more would do no good'
She looked from Rivera to the robot on the table.
'You really want to get that fixed um? ...I can totally understand that one, you should just go a bit easier on yourself.'
Stixon stopped...she was lecturing...she could tell and she should'nt be lecturing someone she hardly knew, she admired her too, damn, Stixon even hoped they could chat.
'Well seeing as i completely disturbed you could i interest you in a hot drink? tea, coffee...hot chocolate?'
Stixon was going to grab a drink while reading up a series manual for the android she was fixing, she needed a spare part and she wasnt sure which one it was.

Tomoro raised her eyebrows as all of this was occuring; it wasn't any of her business... and it was her fault for falling asleep on the cables... any experienced mechanic knows their limits. The human body was kind of like a machine itself... it can only take so much, and then it begins to fall apart, or something doesn't work right. A few people around her were talking, but she furrowed her eyrbrows and moved onto the next robot.

It was a tall, slender figure... not to mention it looked like a girl. Moving her hand across the back, she came across a few letters which stated 'Boy's dorm bot.' Rolling her eyes and sighing, she lay it on the table; it figured that they would have such a bot in their dorm. Tomoro bit her lower lip, and wondered if any boys had actually flirted with the bot... that would be a sight to see. Chuckling lightly to herself, she pulled out the tag on the bot's head that stated what was to be repaired, and she then set it down; all it needed was a light oiling!

Easy jobs were Tomoro's favorite; she could get the job done quickly and then leave. Rules and guidelines didn't apply to her... if she got fired, it didn't matter. At all. She would walk out without warning sometimes. Not that she would in this job. She just LOOOOOVED mechanics.

Taking out an oiling can, Tomoro let out a large sigh before lifting the can up and opening the robot's back, letting the black dark liquid flow in. With that, she sealed it by pounding a hammer on it, and put it next to the other bot, standing up and clapping her hands together. "Well... I'm done..." This comment wasn't directly headed to anyone... she had just stated it to note she was finished. With that, Tomoro opened the door to the repair room and walked out, her bruises and burns now black, stained from the oil and grease upon her.

Rivera opened her eyes when Stixon spoke. She watched her with pale lavender eyes that were as blank as paper, emotionless and tranquil. It was like looking at two stationary pools that were so still one mistakes it for glass. She didn't answer her, not knowing what to say at all... but when she offered her a drink, Rivera just shook her head and got back to work. She found a blanket over her shoulders just before she was about to start on a pentatonic scan. The shadow of a smile played over her ghostly face... maybe there was a place for her in the world of the living...

Rivera let her thoughts drift away so she could work with a clear mind. "Zylaphe, Sylphen, Caraphen, Pyrefen, Cyndicace." The same checkpoints as the first bot she fixed... but she doubted that the triniary system would accept this infiltration... She decided to utilize one more of her checkpoints. It was still an unfinished project she had been calculating, but now, anything was worth a try. Rivera pushed the level up a notch, turning it into a hexatonic checkpoint set instead. This would require a massive level of concentration and mental pressure... she had to do it though, she's come so far... this would be the last piece of the puzzle.

The six seperate checkpoints spread throughout the digit system and began to reread the trinaric encoding with startling accuracy and speed. Despite the speed, it would be a long while before the job is done. The coding was coming together so well, like a retiling jigsaw puzzle... Rivera's mind blanked out of all thoughts but the trinarc numbers and the maintaning of the trigonometric and calculatory functions that the checkpoint set relied on.

<>

Rivera opened her eyes. The check was finally complete... She felt exhausted, and ridgid... She hadn't moved since she started. The room appeared empty again. She realized she hadn't eaten anything in two days. In fact, she hadn't really left the room at all. Her vision was completely hopeless, blurry and unfocused, even through her right dragon eye. She looked down at Usagihana and sighed... maybe it didn't work afterall...

With a tremendous effort on her part, she stood up on quaking, shivering legs that haven't moved in two days. Her arms were the same, feeling too weak to support her body, despite her small frame. It was a wonder she hadn't died yet, having so little energy to sustain herself, even normally when she's eating regularly. Rivera knew that she should've died by now. Sitting down on the table, she took out a sports bottle of water and poured the entire 22 ounces down her throat, followed by a packet of peanut butter crackers that she had to let melt in her mouth before swallowing.

When her vision cleared again, Rivera sighed and looked at the stationary robot. "Raelos..." The wires tore away from her arm, causing tiny spots of blood to appear on it. She ignored the pain... rather, she was too tired to feel it. Like little crimson creeks, they flowed down her arm, and she was too exhausted to notice them more than to wipe it off with a tissue.

Rivera felt unclean. She wanted to go home and take a shower, and probably eat something besides the lunch she brought from two days ago. "Wait here... I'll be back for you... " Rivera whispered and patted the little robot on the head. She put a hand in her pocket and drew out what looked like a purple, glowing tape measurer. It was actually a compact spell. She threw the roll up and let it fall around her in a rotating ring, imprinting a violet alchemy symbol beneath her feet. In a flash of light, she vanished, back to her dormitory.
PostPosted: Thu Jun 01, 2006 10:38 pm

<<45 minutes later... at about 4:50 am>>

A violet alchemy circle appeared on an open part of the floor. Rivera rose from it and stepped out of the circle before lifting an edge and pulled it up like a rug. She shook it once with one hand, like how a person shakes a blanket to get it to spread out. The circle's edge fell apart and curled up into a roll again. Rivera put it back inside her pocket. It was still warm with the heat of the spell.

Sitting down at the table, she got ready to work on Usagihana again... except the robot wasn't there... Rivera looked around the room, wondering who would've been there that put the robot somewhere else. She was still slightly disoriented from the lack of rest, but although her body was tired, her mind was too restless to let it sleep at all without knowing that Usagihana was being worked on. She checked in all the cabinets, maybe one of the other workers did it as a joke or something. Maybe her boss did it to purposely force her to go home and take a break. Maybe it--

[Konichiwa! Watashino Usagihana Desu! Hajimemashite, yoroshiku onegaishimasu!]

Rivera snapped her head up so fast, dizziness made her fall. She caught herself and shook her head to clear her eyes again. Her dim blue eyes lit up to a firery violet-blue when she saw the floating silver bot in the air. The LCD touchscreen face plate displayed a few options:

{English:Japanese:Spanish:French:German:Chinese:Korean:Finnish:Swahili:Vietnamese}

Rivera touched the option for English. Usagihana made a bleeping noise, followed by a start-up tune.

[Hello! My name is Usagihana! Nice to meet you!] It spoke, [Please tell me your name!]

Rivera reached out and hugged Usagihana to her chest. She did it... after two days of ceaseless work, she managed to fix it! "My name is Rivencaira... Call me Rivera... I'm very happy to meet you..." Her emotionless face shifted and the corners of her mouth twisted upwards in a faint smile. "I am very happy..."

Rivera sat down at her work table with the robot and conversed with it until she fell asleep again. Now she could sleep easily, Usagihana was fixed at last...
