I've posted this in another guild, so one or two of you have already read this. But I would like more opinions on the subject, and am generally impatiant.

Greetings Im Mike, and new around these parts, and didnt see a thread on this partiular subject, so here I go.

First let me say, "I am completely new to Martial Arts. Have done little research, and am planning on taking three styles very shortly."

Now that said, the three styles in question are Sanshou Kickboxing, Jujitsu, and Kung Fu. Before you ask "Where is the money comming from!?" The kwoon where I will be learning is $70/month, but you are entitled to all the classes that go on there. Originally I only wanted the Sanshou Kickboxing (Full contact), but If I add one more day, I can get Jujistu, and a class of Kung Fu a week.
Kickboxing 2 days a week, Jujitsu 2 days a week, and Kung Fu once a week.

Here are the kinds of Kung Fu they teach, http://northernblackdragon.com/kungfu2/

That said, is it more a burdon or a bonus to learn three styles at once. It appears that the kwoon endorses such acts due to the payment plan. What do you people think?

Thanks for your time.

If you've never really practiced the Martial Arts then I would recommend concentrating on one style as you'll be confusing yourself.

Start off with the kick boxing and then move into another style.

If the style of ju-jitsu is mostly ground grappling (like BJJ) then I would practice that as well. If it's a traditional style with mostly blocking and counter attacking then i'd stick with just the kick boxing.

It appears to be a mix of ground work, and hand to hand, saying both are very important due to you may not always have the luxery of being in close to grapple, or the distance to effectly strike with any real power.

It depends solely on what the school it like and how they're training the arts.

SanSoo, when practiced under the SanDa ruleset (ok, a rarity, but bare with me) tends to formulate very aggresive, competent strikers for their size/weight from what exponents I've s**t kicked from there.

As for the Kung Fu, I'd skip that from looking at it briefly, and for the JuJutsu its very very rarely you'll find a proper JJJ school. Thats odd, I've never really seen a good school concentrate on ground work, most of it has been escaping from ground work and defending from ground work and the odd G'n'P

If you want to specialise in groundwork you need a good BJJ school, also I wouldn't take more then one art to start off with.

Start out with one Martial Art, and become familiar with it. If you can, see if you might have a Muay Thai school within your area. If not, then go ahead forward with the San Shou. One thing about San Shou kickboxing, is they don't focus enough attention on the attention clinch, and techniques within the clinch. As far as the other two, I wouldn't worry about those at this time. More often than not, a person will be more proficient at ground work, after having had some sort of stand-up experience.

Good Luck! and let us know how things go.
