Weightlifting excessively when you still haven't completely developed (especially at a young age) is devastating to growth.

Well it's just if it's exaggerated.. If you start out at a young age (early teenage), but you weightlift only moderately, then it can help promote strong bones and muscles or something like that.
In other words, as long as you don't weightlift like crazy, it won't mess you up.

Just go look at Gohan. When he got older, he was like not that big because he had huge muscle when he was little.
