((In-depth RP between myself and Sky.))
Maharet was stalking. The rabbit ahead of her had little knowledge of her presence, except for the tiny snap of a twig. The large cougar winced, and froze. The unsuspecting rabbit looked up, saw nothing, and returned to its meal. Heart pounding, Maharet prepared to spring. The thrill of hunting coursed through her, warming every feline cell. Bunching all her muscles as cats do, Maharet lunged at her prey. The rabbit looked up just in time to dodge, its little feet not carrying it far before Maharet's sister, the mute Mekare, plucked it from mid-stride with ease. Small prey never had a chance between the two cougars. They split their prize hungrily, both of them famished after days of no food.
Maharet looked up at her sister and paused for a moment. "Do you perhaps smell a large animal in the air?"
Mekare sniffed, her whiskers flicking. Her ears went flat back and she growled, a sound that was more like a hissing rumble as her vocal chords did not work. She shook her head hard, not indicating that she didn't smell it as well, but suggesting that another try at large prey so soon would be a bad idea.
"Come now, lets see if its just one. One tame horse is nothing for us, my cunning sister." Her tail flicked idly, she was obviously still excited from their sucessful catch. Bad news for Mekare, since Maharet had a tendancy to get a high of sorts off of hunting.
Grudgingly, Mekare gulped down a bit more of the rabbit and moved to follow Maharet. She would need energy for this, she was sure of it. If Maharet hadn't been so much larger, Mekare might have mauled her for stupidity or rashness by now. The two of them moved silently through the dense brush toward the suspected meal that might feed them for weeks.

Mirage had been out exploring the plains once more. He had left Sunchaser with her parents. He didn't want Averti' and Luck to feel sad about him taking their daughter. So, when she wasn't with him, by his side, she was with them. He was a bit jealous that she was so close to her family. But then again, he had been raised differently, and didn't really know his family all that well.
He was going to be leaving the herd at one point, and he was looking for a place to have his herd. The valley that she had shown Sun was in this area that he was looking at, and they were away from the ranch houses out here. Not that he didn't like the humans that lived in the houses, for his mother was one of them, but he just didn't want to spend his entire time around them.
He was the only one that really ventured this far away from the ranch houses. That left him in danger, but it was also the place where he felt the most comfortable. There was nothing but the open plains to see, and the forest to the side, with the moutains in the distance. Today, he was checking out the higher section of the stream that ran by the ranch. There was already two places that he had decided weren't safe. But this one, running first through the plains, leaving healthy lush grass to eat, and then winding into the forest, looked safe enough.
His ears swiveled in all directions, and he tested the air; trying to scent something past the warm green grass, and the smell of water on the afternoon breeze. He could smell nothing, so he he cautiously stepped forward; his hooves leaving indents in the soft ground around the water. As he got closer, he noticed that it was slightly deeper here. More water was held. That was good. More could drink from it at one time. Especially if it was a hot day, and he didn't want anyone to have to wait to get a drink.

Maharet was leading. She always led, since if they ever encountered problems her brute force would be what they needed. Her ears were straight forward and stock still, following the ever loudening sound of hooves squishing through riverside. From the sound of it there was indeed only one horse. Maharet smiled as the stallion just came into view through the thick trees. He was dark, and would have blended in well from their vantage point had it not been for the brightness along his back and mane. The tail was hidden from their view for the most part by dense forest shrubbery.
Mekare reached out and siezed her sister's hind leg with her claws. The larger cougar winced, and looked back, obviously stifling a growl. Mekare motioned downstream with a head tilt and the flick of an ear. There was a deeper spot, that was probably where this stallion was going. They could meet him there, using their usual tactics of one hidden, one visible.
The grab to the leg was uncalled for, but Maharet understood. She turned toward the stream, catching the sound of falling water with her ears now. There was a small pool behind a short fall that would be the best place for an animal to drink, and that was where Maharet would sit, with Mekare hidden a short distance away. It was their favorite tactic.

Mirage drew nearer to the watering hole; licking his lips because of his thrist. His ears still moved, and the still air revealed no smells but that of the enticing. So, he moved close enough to lower his muzzle to the water, quenching his thirst with the cool water. Though, he felt slightly uneasy about being here alone, and that it was quite. But he could not put his hoof on what was causing his unease, so he pushed it to the side of his mind as he quenched his thrist.

Mekare dissapeared from behind her sister. Briefly, Maharet wondered how she managed to creep so stealthily. The large cougar refocoused and continued stalking, approaching the unsuspecting stallion from downwind, so he wouldn't notice her presence until later. She was slow, allowing her sister time to conceal herself in nearby shrubbery. Quietly she crept to the edge of the pool nearly on her belly, and stayed stock still for a moment before sitting up in the grass with a grin. Her rounded ears perked forward and her tail lashed. Perhaps this time Maharet wanted to get a little of a terror reaction before she struck.
Mekare wanted to hit her head on a rock. She just hoped that their ploy would still work with Maharet being such an a** about sticking to what worked.

Mirage's head shot up from the water, as he heard the rustling of underbrush, and then his eyes landed on the source of the sound; a cougar. This one looked particularly smug about something. He knew well enough about this kind and their dangers; he bore the scars on his shoulders and neck to prove it. His ears went flat against his head, and he pawed the ground with a hoof angrily; his attention on the cougar.
He kept his attention on the one before him, but he also checked the forest around him for unusual sounds or movement. He also remembered from the encounter that he had earned his scars, that it had not been one alone that had attacked. He continued to watch the exposed cougar, wondering what the plan of attack was.

Mekare froze stock still in her hiding place as Mirage's ears swiveled in her direction. That meant the horse was smart, if he were checking for hidden danger. She didn't dare even move her eyes for fear of being seen. Smaller than her sister by far, Mekare could easily be fatally trampled by an angry horse. This stallion, for instance. His aggressive posture was more than obvious to her. Maharet, please don't get me killed. This horse is going to strike me in the head and that'll be the end of your twin. She stayed frozen however, to reduce the chances of being spotted.
Maharet lashed her tail, eyeing the scars on Mirage. So, somebody couldn't finish the job. What a pity, since now this horse new what he was in for. A lone horse would be no problem. She grinned, and stared at Mirage a little more. His display of aggression had unnerved her a little, but it certainly didn't show. "Not going to run, young man?" She was mocking him. Maharet was playing the dangerous games that gave her thrills. "Didn't your mother teach you what big cats do to horses?"

He snorted angrily at the cougar before, muscles tense. His ears still searched for the hidden parter that had to be somewhere, probably either at his side, or behind him. There was always a possibility that the missing parter could be behind the other, but this cougar didn't look that dumb. Then again, it had shot straight up from its hiding place and grinned at him; albeit maliciously.
He listened to the cats taunt, and couldn't help but snort at it; essently saying 'oh brother'. She (for he was pretty sure with the pitch of the voice that wasn't like Hershy's, that it was a girl) was trying to anger him. Two could play that game. I'm currious myself why you're not running. Didn't your mother teach you what big horses do to small cats? He was pretty sure now, with the taunt, that the other was behind him somewhere. Now, only to find it...

Maharet laughed loudly, tossing her head back with the near-insane noise. "My dear colt," She chuckled, "I'm obviously not afraid of you in the least." Her claws scratched harshly on the rocks beneath them and Maharet's lip curled back in a near growl, revaling oversized canines.
Mekare was stunned, but Maharet was obvously ready. She leaped from the shrubs to Mirage's right rear flank, her small body sailing through the air rather well. Her great paws were sprawled out, prepared for impact.
Slightly caught off guard by the sudden attack of her sister, but quick enough on her feet, Maharet moved for Mirage's left shoulder. It was the dangerous position, but she could take a beating. Those canines of hers could find home in the large mass of muscle she was aiming for, and it would be all over for him.

He was in trouble, and he knew it. If he didn't guard his back, the other cougar could snap his back and he was dead. However, if he let the bigger of the two that he had been facing attack, she could tear out his throat. He took a moment to size up the one leaping, and realized that the one before him was the biggest threat. He knew he would hurt when the other landed, but he had to get rid of this one first. And he bucked a bit, giving the other cougar not such a solid landing when it did land.
He hadn't been phased by the large teeth of the other. Just ment it took longer for her to open her mouth large enough to get a bite out of him. And he himself bared his teeth at the older attacker; lowering his head so that she couldn't get a good clean shot of his throat, or a clean one of his shoulder. if she got near enough, he would show her what it felt like to have her fur ripped out.
