Here's a couple of links. http://www.kenhillsphantomoftheopera.co.uk/(Ken Hill's Phantom of the Opera. Has a few music clips in there somewhere. Check 'em out!) http://libretto.musicals.ru/text.php?textid=266&language=1(The libretto of Phantom; the Yeston and Kopit version. I believe this is the one where apparently the manager is Erik's dad. O.o) Just wondered if anyone else had heard of/seen these. If you have, I was hoping we could discuss them, and compare them to the ALW version. EDIT: I found a link with clips from the Y&K version. This version is definitely supposed to have a lighter tone than ALW's. The tunes just make me crack up like no other... Here's the link: http://www.almudo.com/cgi-bin/music.cgi?item_id=B000003FGT&search_type=AsinSearch&locale=us (Just click on the 'listen' option right above the picture of the CD). Enjoy the links

I saw the soundtrack to the Yeston and Kopit version of Phantom. I heard the samples of the first songs and if I can get to Barnes and Noble in the near future I'd gladly buy it.

The Y&K version can be bought on amazon for about 16 bucks new, and 12 bucks used. I'm definitely going to buy it; the songs are catchy. It just... amuses me more than a Phantom story should. Though the ending is just... weird. And Phil scares me. ^^;

Heh. ^^; Yeah, some of the things that go on in these plays can make a Phantom lover to "O.o WTF, mate?!" Still, I think it would be interesting to see these, or at least hear more of the songs...

I've got Yeston's version on CD and a few of the vocal selecions/piano parts. I was actually listening to the CD when I hit this link. I read the synopsis and everything, and although it DEFINATELY is a LOT less true to the book (Philippe is the one who falls in love with Christine. Say it with me: WTF?), and Carlotta and her husband own the opera, and the manager does end up as Erik's father.
The plot seems really good, though, and the singers are fantastic. I really like it, although I find it hard to think of it as a Phantom story because I'd known only ALW's for so many years...

Kitsune Ookami Is the Persian in the Y&K version (just wondering) Not to my recolection, no. I believe the manager/father leads everyone who needs leading down to Phantom's Lair-y place.

XD; I saw the Y&K soundtrack in FYE last week when I bought my movie track. In fact, I just borrowed it from the library, (XD Omfg... movies from libraries... what next?!) and I'm going to watch it when I sign off... >_> When I was reading the back, I didn't see the name, "Raoul" anywhere. Omfg...
Me: eek xd xd xd YAY!!!!! OMFGFOPPY'SNOTINITILOVEY&KALREADYSQWEE!!!!!! Mother: ....o....kay....? O_o ... Me: :33333 *dances about the kitchen* Mother: ....*gets up* *walks away* Me: ... ._.; ;-; Mum...? Mother: *walks back* Me: biggrin YOU'VE COME BACK TO CELEBRATE WITH ME IN MUCH JOYOUSNESS?! Mother: ...no... *points* I forgot my coffee.
XD; Yeah. It was... sort of... odd. Can't wait to watch it, though.

XD Omfg... triple post.... yeah... I saw the movie thing that was based on Kopit's play. D: Omfg, it made me cry. It was.... amazing. I love it. XD Erik was.... so.... omfg... he had such a great personality....
Erik: biggrin Oh, good, you're awake! Did you have a good night's sleep? Christine: o_o .... *nods dumbly* Erik: :3 What shall we do today....? Oh! I know! Let's have a picnic! Me: OMFGWTF?! D: Christine: o_o ...er... Erik: n____n *goes over to a table and picks up a hat* *puts it on* What do you think? Hat? No hat? Christine: ... Erik: Yes, I like this hat, too. Walking stick! biggrin *picks it up* And... of course... *taps picnic basket with walking stick* X333 I know a great place to picnic in the woods outside... there's a little clearing.... *offers Christine his arm* Christine: ... *takes it* o___O;;; Erik: *trolleys off, grinning* Me: ....that was borderline freaky.
I loved it, though. I think I may like it better than the ALW version. o___o XD I HAVE to see the original play the movie was spawned from if I can now... XD Omfg.... anyone have any ideas where one could view such a spectacle...?
But I must say. By now I've all but memorized that aria in Faust... Margarita's...? <---- Can never figure out how to spell it. XD'
I've seen that same scene three times. XDDD Once in the Lon Chaney movie, once in the 1989 version (which sucked ROYALLY. D:<) And now once in this movie. XDDD Most people, when they sing, sing something they heard on the radio this morning, something normal, people would recognize. Aji bursts into arias from Faust. XDD What's wrong with this picture?

I have a friend who saw a different stage version of POTO, but I can't remember if it was the Ken Hill one or not. She said that it had more comedy than the ALW one, but the guy who played the Phantom just wasn't believable for the part.

Haha, I actually found a couple of pictures of that online and went, "What on EARTH is happening THERE?" The picnic thing is just... random. Though I would love to see the non-ALW phantom plays live... I doubt I ever will, but it would be nice to have something to compare it to, other than the music alone.

Though I would love to see the non-ALW phantom plays live... I doubt I ever will, but it would be nice to have something to compare it to, other than the music alone. Erik: Good morning! Did you sleep well? I like that room. Good, cozy bed... nice water view... Well! biggrin What shall we do today? Christine: .... *just sort of... standing there* O_o .... Erik: I have an idea! How about a picnic? Christine: ...a picnic? ... XD; Erik: Yes! I know where there's a nice wood... There's a little spot up there; we won't be interupted, and while we stroll, I can show you where I live! Hat, you think? Formal touch? Christine: o_o; Erik: Yes, I think so, too. And, of course, A walking cane. And then... vwala. biggrin *taps picnic basket with cane* Shall we go? *offers Christine his arm* Christine: *takes it* *Both galavant off*
XD There. That's what he says. *replayed it* XD I LOVE that scene. <3
