Who was watching the race where he crashed? I was. I was so sad...I still cry whenever I hear his name or the number 3...

I was on a church youth trip and we were on the church bus. I was with a bunch of preps. *wince* And they were singing some song that had the word Earnhardt in it. I asked them if they knew who Earnhardt was and they said no. Then I started crying, and I mean a lot! Then they asked if I was related to him. (I wish!)

Then my family and I were watching the Nascar IMAX. And they did a little part about Dale and my dad and I were both crying our eyes out. It was horrible...

I watched it. Have it recorded. Still hard to believe that Dale Earnhardt died instead of Tony Stewart.

I was watching that race as well as my hubby on that day. We had even watched him being wheeled into the hospital on a strecher as they were giving him CPR. It was both a shock and disbelief to us when we heard that he passed away. He had walked away from so many awful crashes in the past. We both felt sorry for Ken Schrader for he was the first person to see him after it happened. We are sure it scarred him for life.

Dale Sr. died on my birthday... crying

Since then, I have been and always will be a Chevrolet Corvette fan, because that same year he ran the Rolex 24 Hours Of Daytona with Corvette Racing. Dale Sr. drove in Ron Fellows' teammate's car, with Andy Pilgrim, Dale Jr. and Kelly Collins. Ron Fellows (drove the #2 car) went on to win that race, with the Dale and Dale team finishing 4th. It was a good race too, because both of the team cars were neck and neck, just Kim Collins bobbled and got bad luck in traffic I think. And they had longer pit stops, which in the end made them worse than the #2 car.

Dale Sr. seen here testing out the #3. He looked good in yellow 3nodding

I watched almost all of that race. It's what really got me into sports car racing. Dale sure seemed to have a blast in that race.

I think that's the way he would've wanted to go out though.. It seems fit for him. Not saying that I wouldn't want him back racing now, mind you.

We're doing this project in English where we have to dress up and talk like we're a person from 'history', and there's a stupid kid who is going to be Dale ! He doesn't even watch Nascar! He's not going to the race tomorrow either...We live 15 freakin miles from TMS! He's a bad fan...I'm going to give him heck if he's not wearing an open-faced helmet.

It was a shocking day that day. My mom and I were watching the race at my grandmother's house (my grandmother was in the hospital at the time). We watched the conclusion of the race and saw the wreck. We thought tha Dale Sr. (as tough as he is) would make it out. Then when he was taken to the hospital, it looked serious. When I go back home, I called my sister and told her to go to the internet to see if there was any updates. When I got out of the shower, my sister called with the bad news. All I could say the d word. It was a shock that day.

After that accident it was tough to see the look of Kenny Schrader's face. It seemed like he knew it before all of us did, but he didn't want to say it. But the look on his face really worried me then. Then they showed a shot of the ambulance carrying him and I guess I should have known then, but I didn't, being only 15 and naive at the time. But that really worried me as well. I thought the only other reason they would go that slow is if a whole bunch of his bones were broken, that if they were going to try to save his life, they would be booking it.

I remember saying after they went off the air, "Imagine if he died" not thinking really that he was going to, I was still hopeful after all the evidence that already pointed to it. But the 5:00 news came on later with the "Breaking News" bulletin right up front, and then announced that he had died.

All I could say was "Holy s**t," and then I started crying.

Imagine what Ken Schrader had to go through. He literally watched one of his best friends die right in front of him.

And Sterling Marlin too. He received a bunch of death threats after that ordeal, and I'm glad Dale Jr. came to clear him.

I was watching the race when it happened. I still have the whole thing recorded.

When I first saw the crash, it didn't actually look that bad. I was really shocked when they had to take him away in an ambulance, and was even more shocked when I heard he had died. I thought he would just walk away like he had so many other times. I remember a newspaper clled it "The Perfect Crash", where everything that could possibly go wrong went wrong.

I really wish he was still out there every Sunday trading paint with everyone else, but I suppose he died doing what he loved, and that we should be happy Nascar had such an exciting driver to watch. Hopefully he's not forgotten in the racing community (which I doubt he will be).

The crash didn't look bad at all. Just like any other crash. My first thought was damn, he would have loved to finish right behind the cars he owned, then progressed to, damn, he might be hurt, to damn, he might be missing some races to, damn, he's dead.
