drip, drip, drip, drip
Sounds of a soft shower collecting onto a single leaf, droplets of water falling into the overlooked watering hole. Most of the inhabitance of the area have retreated home with their herds while others still lingered. The sky was covered in a light grey veil.
Usufii laid sprawled under a small ledge that jetted over the rippling watering hole. His sapphiric eyes watched as the ripples started short and grew, converging with the others.
"I've been having wierd thoughts lately...."

Light padded paws struck the soft earthen ground, creating a quiet rythm of the young feline's approach. Her clay-toned fur created an orangish blur of lion in her running wake. A smirk was curled across her features as she ran, faster and faster, enjoying the rising glee of escaping from her mother's watch, even if it was to be only for a little while.
The only thing that slowed the juvenile's progress was the occasional water droplet that would land on her nose, causing her to stop and sneeze loudly, but after that brief interruption she would continue to run.
the ever-present grin on her face continued to grow and grow as she saw water approaching on the horizon. Like a shrew escaping from it's predator, Kia had been running to escape the security of her mother's watch for quite some time now and the pangs of thirst were beginning to grasp at her throat.
breathing deeply, she slowed one last time to crouch over the watering hole and drink, unsuspecting that she was in the company of another.

The wolf's powerful sense of smell and hearing brought the sounds of running paws colliding with the ground and the scent of a lioness. The drops of rain was roaring in his ears, deafening.
"Anyone there?" he called out. Usually, he would have seen the creature already but the ledge he laid under gave him a blind spot of behind, to the left, and above him. Where was she?
"Is anyone there?" he repeated. The white marked wolf set a paw from his ledge, followed by his head. Eyes scanning the constant rainfall. Where is she?

the young lady stopped lapping up water almost simulataniously with the sounding of the creature's voice. Her green eyes lit up like a spark of electricity ran through them. What was an adventure before had even grown now that there was somebody else to share it with.
What at first had been shock turned to a heightened sense bravery. The young female inhaled deeply and stood with a straighter posture. She was ready to look whatever was before her straight in the eyes and "show them who was boss" if need be. Nothing even intrigued her to think that whatever was near her might be bigger, older, or stronger than she.
she turned her head around looking for where the voice was coming from. She was to the left of where the other was, but somehow in her excitement for confrontation she didnt even notice the front part of a wolf coming from a ledge. She rose a brow, obviously confused. Where could this other be? "Yes, I'm here.." she said, a little skeptically, but non-theless, no fear was present in her voice

The voice replied, it was defiantly a female. He sniffed around, she was very close, but where. He kept his eyes opened and scanned the terrain, left, right, and left again. All there were were trees, grass, clouds, and lots of water. Where was this female?
"Where are you?" he called again into the raining air. "I hear ya, but where are ya?"
His head turning brought his nose to his side, getting a quick wiff of himself, quickly drawing his head back. ...I smell like wet dog.

Her brows rose, it was like a game of hide and seek that niether had agreed to. Her head cocked slightly to the side at the same instant as the onset of her confusion. The creature's voice was loud so he must have been close. So looked across the watering hole and realized the his voice wasn't coming from across the watering hole, but directly to her right.
She turned her face to face to source of the sound, her ears swiveling desperatly to locate the exact point of the sound. But of course! It all seemed so completely obvious now, a ledge jutting from underneath an overhang was near her. This creature must be on the ledge.
She exhaled slowly before inching her way towards the ledge, peeking her nose around the wall of the ledge she saw what she was faced with. A large grey canine stood before her. She had never been faced with a canine before, let alone one the size of the one before her now. Having the naevity of one her age only one creature came to her mind that even slightly matched the description of the creature before her.
Her eyes once full with a sparkling enthusiasm to meet this creature now dilated into a look of confused terror. She inhaled deeply, her chest rising quickly as her jaw dropped and she screamed "HYENAA!!!!!!" she swiveled on her paws to run, but one of her paws sunk deep into the muddy mire caused by a rainy day.
The youth pouted, trying desperatly to pull her paw from the mire and not succeeding, never once putting thought to the fact that the creature before her may not indeed be a hyena and if so may not indeed wish to make a lunch of her. Nevertheless, her eyes watered hopelessly as she whined quietly, still struggling in the mud

Usu's eyes grew large, fur bristled at the loud cry. It said "Hyena!", it startled the poor wolf. The wolf immediately, instictively, ran back into the ledge to a quick dead end. Banged his head into the corner, he stumbled back for an escape. Tripped over a rock and tumbled into the watering hole.
"Oh No!" he cried, followed by a loud splash. The grey blur rose to the surface and broke the water surface with a loud gasp. His's eyes looked around the area and spotted the lioness, stuck in some mire from the rain.
Usu's eyes furrowed. "Serves you right!" he shouted assuming it was her who startled him. One paw at a time the wolf got out from the water with a quick shake. "What was that for?" he asked sternly, very nice first impression, scare the living day lights out of him.

She stared wide-eyed at the dog-like creature, although after seeing him fall into the water and splash around a bit he seemed much less threatening. She stopped tugging at her paw for a moment to inspect the canine freshly out of the water. Despite her pounding heart the sight of his fur drooping with wetness and his angry tone contrasting with his very hopeless appearance made her break into silent fits of laughter. She dared not laugh out loud to further provoke the creature, but she had to admit, hyenas--or whatever species this was--aren't nearly as frightening when wet.
She flinched once slightly as he scolded her and once again when he shook small droplets of water off of his coat, some of which landed, regretably, on Kia's nose, which of course caused her to sneeze. She looked inquisitavely (sp?) up at his figure before stuttering out a quick response "I.. I'm sorry Mr Hyena, sir..... It's just that you frightened me a bit. You see, I've never met a hyena before and.... and I really don't want to be eaten. Not today.... or the next day neither when I think twice about it..." She pouted, attempting to look pathetic. She may not have been a cub any more, but perhaps she still had the ability to tug on a creature's heartstrings. She doubted it, but it was worth a shot anyways.

"Now what are you going on about 'Mr. Hyena'-ing? I am no hyena, miss." he said, head low, but still stern. "I am a wolf, a sub-species more of the like. Besides, shouldn't ya be home? Ya mother must be worried about ya." his maw flashed a white grin, each fang gleamed like the last.
Usufii walked around the female with inquisative eyes. His dark grey fur rippled over his limbs as he moved, deep blue eyes glew, drops of water falling. "I wouldn't eat ya......or would I....?"
Suddenly, Usu stopped in mid step, took a deep breath and opened his maw. "BARK BARK BARK BARK!" he barked out with a fierce expression and postion that matched.

The feline tensed, every muscle across her shoulders and back seemed to contract, causing her to freeze. She stopped chuckling and her eyes grew wide again. She had never encountered a wolf before.... perhaps these "wolves" were more fierce than hyenas even. Her lip quivered slightly as her eyes scanned over each of his large pearly incisors. She frowned and hiccuped quietly when he paused.
Her brows furrowed sadly, he seemed frozen and so was she, until he opened his toothy jaws and began his horrible barking. She shrieked, jaws open in a wide grimmace of horror as she began frantically tugging on her paw once more. The mud her paw was settled in gurgled mockingly as she continued to tug and tug until she feared her shoulder would dislocate.
Not knowing whether to cry, or whine, or beg for her life the young female continued to yank violently at her paw so it looked almost as if she was jumping up and down. It seemed rather stuck, and the mud certainly wasn't on her side. So the poor juvenile just watched the wolf in terror, too scared to holler, and beginning to erupt into a violent fit of hiccups.

The series of barks subsided and his maw came a grin. He let out a hearty laugh at the lioness expression. The lioness what hiccuping! Oh it was priceless. True a wolf, a cnine, would scare a feline, a lion, but not at this scale.
"Sorry, but you deserved that for scarring me earlier." he said between his giggle. Sort of glad that she was stuck or else she could kill him.

she tilted her head once more, as she often seemed to whenever she was confused, and stared blankly into the wolf's eyes. Did those large barking jaws just shift to laughter? Did his eyes truly so quickly turn from anger to glee?
"Am I dead?" her chin pointed downwards, she continued to stare up at the wolf in disbelief. The changes in his personality were so drastic that they were beyond her comprehension. ".....am I dreaming?" She had no feelings of anger or annoyance towards to canine before her, just simple and utter confusion.
"No...." she said, her face finally showing some signs of resolve "but that was... an outstanding show!" That familiar smile was finally fading back onto her lips. She looked down at her paw, which was still buried in the mud and thought for a moment before pulling on it with one long pull instead of many sparratic short ones. The mud gurgled and finally gave one final smacking pop before releasing her paw from it's sticky grime.
The juvenile ignored the mud that was coating her front paw and walked straight over to the wolf, pacing one full circle around his and looking him up and down before plopping herself to a sitting position directly in front of his face and offering him a sharp salutory nod. "I dont believe we've been properly introduced" she blinked, tilting her chin upwards in a very regal fashion "I'm Kia..... and you are?"
one of her brows raised slowly as if finalizing her query. Where other lions may have been extremely upset over what the wolf before her had just done, she was simply in awe of his superb acting and was actually proud to meet the fellow

What a strange female....he barks and she complimented. This female reminded him of someone.....but who was it again? Was it someone he met face to face? Or maybe someone he saw pass by his tree.
"At least you have your manners, Kia." he smiled. "Name's Usufii." the rain lightened slightly, but still fell upon the two forms.

"Usufii, eh?" she smiled and nodded one more time "Pleasure to meet your aqquaintance Mr. Usufii"
her gaze traveled down to her muddy paw, which pawed at the mud idly. A sheepish grin slowly spawned from the simple smile that was once on her face as she made eye contact with the wolf once more. "So... um.... Mr. Usufii..." she paused, looking down at her paw again, still grinning "you wouldnt mind um.... showing me that again would you?"
she chuckled, this truly was a strange female. Something that had scared her moments prior she now saw as a bona fide learning experience for a growing hunter/adventurer as herself. Also a paw that was coated in mud didnt seem to phase her at all. There were more important matters to attend to, after all. At least in her mind.

Usu cocked a brow and tlted his head, common among some of the canine species, showing confusion. "What do you mean, "showing me that again" ?" he asked. What was she talking about? It'd be slightly more helpful if he knew exactly what he did that she wanted to see again.
His long furred ears swiveled. "Did you want me to run into the watering hole again?" he asked. "Or bark?" females can be confusing sometimes. Maybe that is what makes them special.
