how can i get my hair into ringlets? ive tried everything... curlers, curling sampoo, curling iron, putting my hair into twists and letting it dry like that... but nothing works for me. everything i try turns into a frizzy mess. my hair is naturally straight and its pretty thick and heavy. does anyone know of a way i could possibly get my hair to look the way i want it?

When they put my hair in ringlets when I was five, they twisted it aorund some stuff that looked like worms and then left it like that for like, two days or something. ^_^; then they used a ton of product in my hair. Maybe if you tried some products to keep your hair curly and not frizzy that would work *shrugs*

My hair is naturally thick and straight, too. My mother uses those old-fashioned curlers that you leave in your hair for a while, and I've used them a few times and they work great. I just spray some gel in after to get it to stay.

I'm not sure how to get thick hair into ringlets, but my friend has fairly thick hair and manages to get it that way.
My hair is straight and thin, so all I have to do is use a curling iron for a while and it turns out well.

I have very thick and very long hair that refuses to curl unless I put cloth overnight curlers in when my hair is -almost- cry after a shower. Then, In the morning, Load it up with hair spray. It's the only thing that has ever worked on my hair. It doesn't last more than five hours with me, but at least it's better than nothing.

My mum used to just use a curling iron, but my hair is naturally wavy, so... maybe go and ask a hair stylist? She or he might know.

Yeah. My mom always just takes scrap clothing and tars them apart in to strips.

My friend told me when she was curling my hair a few days ago, that in order to curl thicker hair, just hold a curler in a bit longer. I believe that she holds the curler in her hair for about four minutes. Also, using smaller chunks seems to work as well.
Just thought that you might like to know. heart

On thick hair, use golden hot irons. ( they don't work well with fine or thin hair.) If you have a relaxer (not a perm) they won't stay. Also, a hair stylist. You'll have to sit under the dryer quite literally for 5 or more hours, but if you really care, that should do it. But do expect the curls to fall out from the weight. wink but careful, golden curlers are MUCH hotter than regular ones.

For theatre one girl curled another's hair while spraying it with hair spray, I'm not sure if that will help you, but hers held really well.

I can second the rollers experience. If I want ringlet curls that will last for over an hour, that's my only option. However, I do long and thick hair, but it's naturally wavy. It's a bit different from having naturally straight hair, though, because it probably holds the curl a little better. whee

I never got rollers to work. @_@ Specifically, on how to use a curling iron for curls (If you haven't been helped enough). Take a small chunk of hair, and open the clip of the iron (the alligator mouth thing. =o ) all the way. Place the very end of your hair as close to the bottom of the barrel as possible. Roll the curler, making sure the hair doesn't overlap and roll up all of your hair, to the scalp. I usually hold for 15 alligators, but I have thin, wavy hair, so yours would probably take longer. Theres a tutorial somewhere in one of my GL Bibles... I'll try to find it and show you what I mean. XD Here's what mine looks like when I finish:
