How about we make this thread a detailed explanation of the evidence for the big bang theory and the best books to read on the subject?

Generally speaking, I think these would be good:

That sounds like it could be useful.

Also I would rather you explain the inflationary theory, the links are good though, just don't leave them alone.

Um, I don't understand inflation. I'll type up something for HEP [as in, "the particles" of the HEP] when I have some time next week.

"Big Bang" (aptly named) is a really good book to read, about the Big Bang and also general cosmology

A couple months ago I read "Big Bang: The Origin of the Universe" by Simon Singe. Not everything was new to me but plenty of gaps were filled in.

Beyond the basic theory, the next step would be to major in astrophysics (if you already aren't)

Big Bang topics to explore;

  • The Higgs Boson
  • the W & Z particle
  • an introduction to particle physics (CERN, etc.)
  • Star formation
  • Star Death
  • Galactic formation (age, structures & clusters)

Essentially, you would be comparing the observed with the theory.
