Hello!
I am new to this guild (im not Korean though) and I really want to learn more about Korean culture, language, music, and traditions (I usually get introdiced to a culture thourgh its traditional music..(like I did with the India after listening to the Sitar, Thailand, Indonesia, etc) and if it would be possible if anyone can teach me an others Korean? Lol, it dosent have to be a whole college course, I mean just like basics like Hi, How are you, introducing yourself, etc. and writing system too.
I have had the experience of writing Korean before and I can only write three Korean surnames...in Korean and they are Kim, Yi, and Pak (eh..sorry if I am pronouncing them wrong sweatdrop ) but I also had alot of fun the first time I wrote those three surnames. I would love to learn to read Korean, even if I do not know what I am reading (ah heck! it happens with my Japanese learning too) but it is still fun!
By the way, Do Koreans still use Hanja anymore or do they just use Hangul?

I want to learn more hanja. I'd like to know enough so that I could find good names for any kids I may have. razz
I was born in the USA and I've never been to Korea. I understand a lot of Korean, but I mostly know the respectful forms because that's mostly what I've been exposed to. I'd like to be able to be fluent, actually, and speak without my American accent.
My handwritting isn't bad, but knowing how to write well and understanding what the heck I'm writing are two totally different things. If I could peed up my rate of accurate reading, I'd be oh so happy.
That's my goals for learning Korean. smile

Well, the quickest way to learn Korean would probably be to join the army, lol.
That's what I did. Near Native-Fluent in only a year and a half. That's 8 hours of classwork a day and three to four hours of homework a night. It sucks though, becuase I haven't been able to use it very often where I am right now, so I'm starting to lose some of it, but I know once I get back to Korea, I'll pick it right back up.
