Elf was nervous.... very nervous. Actually, saying she was nervous would have been a huge understatement. It had been a few days since her encounter with the fallen Mackerel. Would the Herald be alright? She had TRIED to take away the horrible sacrifice, but was denied. The human hoped that it wouldn't have failed in saving the angel.
But, who could she go to? Elf had met a few Heralds, and their Guardians.... but she didn't think she knew anyone well enough to have a comfortable conversation. That left one option: an uncomfortable conversation!
The woman had stopped at Subo's house, but there was no answer. So, she moved on. Winding her way around, using only the piece of paper with an address, Elf made her way to Sarielle's place. She left a gift for Taka once, so the area was slightly familiar.
Elf knocked on the door and waited patiently for a response. She hoped Sarielle was there...

But it wasn't the dark-haired Sarielle who opened the door, but a blonde young man with warm blue eyes and a welcoming smile. "Hello?" He clearly had no idea who she was; but he also clearly intended to make her feel at home.

Elf was so sure Sarielle would open the door... or if not then Taka. Whoever this man was... and he was kind of cute too... the woman had no idea what to do.
In her initial shock, Elf wavered at her feet and literally held the doorframe to keep from falling. That would be embarrassing! When she regained her balance, the woman looked down at her piece of paper, up at the man and his dreamy blue eyes, back down at the paper, and then stepped back to see if there was a door number posted somewhere. "Umm... I think I might be at the wrong house? Does Sarielle still live here?"

The young man watched as Elf fumbled for words; and if there was a glimmer of amusement in those blue eyes of his, he hid it well otherwise.
"Oh! Yes, she does, come in!" He stepped aside to allow the woman to enter, sliding the door open wide. "Though, she's out of town at the moment I'm afraid. Still, no reason you shouldn't visit."
He motioned her into a seat with a movement of long, deft fingers, and left to knock on Taka's door.
"We've got company," was all he said, though it was obviously a summons.

Elf's confusion became more and more apparent. Unlike some people, she couldn't hide emotions very well. When he invited her in, the woman faltered. Was it safe? Did he really know Sarielle or was he just trying to lure her in for.... no, that was the wrong line of thought. Finally, Elf made up her mind and walked in.
For a moment, she stared at the seat, trying to gather her thoughts. Why this man was here, and who he was, was quickly starting to overtake the reason she was there. But, without Sarielle... was it safe to talk about Heralds around this man? Would he be able to help her?
Elf eventually, and slowly, got into the seat and her eyes followed the blond man around the room. Gone was the interest of... whatever it was she had before. Now, rested a kind of wariness and suspicion... though curiosity and confusion still was in her eyes.
"I'm sorry, but... who are you?" Elf blurted out. She had to know.

Angel turned in surprise. He'd completely forgotten to introduce himself...and if Elf's hard, suspicious gaze were any indication, an explanation was also in order.
"I'm sorry, I'm Angel," he said, extending his hand with a self-deprecating laugh.
"Sheesh, and you say my manners are bad," Taka's voice flatly chided, as she shuffled into the living room. She'd seen this woman before, but couldn't immediately remember her name.
Angel just looked at her. Not angrily, not surprised, he just...looked. Taka turned her steely blue gaze away from his. He'd actually managed to make her feel uncomfortable, and somehow very gauche. Instead, she turned to the visitor.
"I see you've met Sarielle's...friend." She put undue emphasis on the last word -- and with it, undue innuendo. Revenge, of course, for his pointed glance. "I'm Taka."

Elf's gaze started to melt at the 'explanation' and actually cleared when Taka came in to the room. Well, at least he somewhat knew what a Herald was... which may still be helpful. Taka looked... different, though.
At first, the woman just stared, and then the light turned on quite obviously, "Oh my, Taka, you've grown! Has it really been so long? I remember when you were... yaaaa-ay... big!" She held her hand out to a child's height.
Turning back to the man, who's hand was still extended patiently, the woman gave a half-grin (still unsure), "I'm Elf, and I wanted to talk to Sarielle about Heralds...."

Taka had been much smaller then -- only a child, in fact. She'd met this woman that same day Sarielle had taken such an aversion to the strange Azruael...
Still, she hated to be reminded of being little, and powerless. So she said nothing.
Angel only nodded at Elf's explanation for her visit at first, though that twinkle of amusement was still there. "So you've come to ask about angels, have you? Well, I'm sure Taka can answer most of your questions. And Sarielle and I have been close for...a long time now. Perhaps I can answer the rest."
It was both truthful and plausible, he hoped, noting the hint of uncertainty still in this friendly woman's face. "Surely another hasn't been discovered?"

Elf sighed and took a seat, looking up at both Taka and Angel. She wrung her hands together as she tried to put the experience in words. It would have been so much easier if it was Sarielle here...
"Well, I found one the other day.... I knew it needed something to be given to it...." Her eyes twitched to Taka's direction and then back down to her hands. "And I asked it to hold something.... bad...." The woman chewed on her lip, evidentally uncomfortable. "I hadn't meant to sacrifice it, but the herald took it... and it disappeared..."
She looked up, her eyes wet but no tears fell, "Will the herald be okay? I haven't done something that will kill it, right?" Elf was obviously looking for help and comfort, but too worried and nervous to ask for it from Angel or even Taka.

Angel's blue eyes still held that soft quality they seemed to always maintain, but the amusement was definitely gone. Taka merely looked curious.
"What do you mean something 'bad'?" she asked, tossing long locks back over her shoulder and coming closer. This guest had her attention, for a change.
"I'm curious as well," Angel said, voice subdued. "Objects, generally, aren't inherently 'bad' or 'good.'" Generally, because, well... "I hope it wasn't something perishable?" He couldn't imagine a pie or anything would be particularly healthy for a dying angel...

Elf had started to chew her bottom lip. She was having a hard time meetin Angel and even Taka in the eyes; she thought she had done something that horrible.
She couldn't help but snort at the perishable comment, "No, it isn't 'perishable'... in fact, I think its half-life alone is about five hundred thousand years...." The woman took a deep breath, "the sacrifice was a bottle of radioactive waste.... I think maybe nuclear but I am not sure. I had found it in a lake and was worried it would... kill the fish, so I took it. I was digging for a better sacrifice in my bag and handed the bottle open. I never thought the herald would think it... okay...."

There was a tangible pause from both of the home's occupants. Then, almost as if on cue, the two spoke at once.
"Are you serious? Awesome!" Taka squealed in amusement, imagining "Swamp Thing" with wings. "You so have to bring it over when it's reborn."
"I see," was Angel's much-less-thrilled response. He ran a hand through short cornsilk curls while frowning slightly at Taka, thought his displeasure was clearly only half-hearted due to distraction. "I think..."
Hmm, how to put it? "I don't honestly know for certain what the effect will be," he answered, being as honest as he could while still maintaining tact. "I anticipate it might always be sickly, or..." Surely, this woman's imagination could fill in the rest?

Elf couldn't help but stare at Taka. That was not the response she was expecting. But if a herald thought that was such an idea... was it possible that the sacrifice wasn't all that bad? Her mind struggled to comprehend something so good as a herald mixed with something else that was so bad. Disaster was the only thing that came to mind.
Angel's reaction was a little more like what she thought.... and her worry came back in a flash. Her face paled, "Sickly....?" What kind of an existence would that be for anyone? Her imgaination probably went in the completely wrong direction as she could only imagine the poor figure in bed with IVs and other apparatuses sticking in to it to keep it alive. The woman shuddered at the thought, that wasn't a life at all; what had she done!?

Angel's brows drew together. He hated causing distress. "I don't know that will be the case," he hastened to say. He was simply pleased she hadn't asked how he knew as much about Heralds as he did. Though he should, perhaps, have paid more attention before...
Ah well. It was too late now.
"Besides," the blond youth told her with that winning smile, "without you, it would have died. You've at least given it a chance. And as a messenger reborn, their minds and bodies are like sponges. Expose it to happy, healthy things. Even something small, like..." He thought of Sarielle, and his smile shifted fleetingly into something tender. "...like say, a flower in its room could make a difference."
Taka watched Angel's face with all the intensity of a bird of prey. She still could not place Angel's relationship with her guardian, but she intended to try. She knew quite well who had come to mind.
