I personally love this series. It's twisted ("highly controversial") at times, but it's just so well done, and the art is so pretty. And the philosophy...
If you haven't seen/read it, it's about a boy, named Setsuna, who's in love with his sister. He's also the reincarnation of the angel Alexiel, who, along with her (insane) twin Rosiel, are the most powerful angels under God himself. Alexiel revolted against God, and is sentenced to the most severe punishment given to the fallen. Her body and soul are separated. The body is frozen in an angel crystal, it is then locked away in the deepest depths of angel security on the fourth circle/layer of Heaven, Machonon. Her soul is sentenced to be incarnated into a human mortal. That mortal's life is sentenced to end in a violent and painful way at the end of every incarnation. After which Alexiel is re-incarnated again and begins the cycle anew. But in every incarnation Alexiel's personality is still present under specific, e.g. dangerous, circumstances, which causes her incarnation to have strange spiritual patterns and powers at times; it is as if the incarnation has a multiple personality disorder. Setsuna, her present reincarnation, now finds himself surrounded by devils and demons, and angels, caught up in a war he knows nothing about.
I did a crappy job explaining that, but either you've read it or you haven't...it's actually really good, in a mindbending sort of Kaori Yuki way.

(and for me to say something like that is extremely rare)
I tend to not read series about Angels and Demons - becuase that theme has gotten so clich'e over the years. But Angel Sanctuary surpised me - the extensive thought and effort put into the manga made it mind blowing.
I had read some of Kaori Yuki's works before As, and enjoyed them, but AS has to be one of my favorites from her.
The Mad Hatter would have to be one of my favorite characters

I LOVE Angel Sanctuary! heart It's my very favorite manga. The anime was very short and cut our too much. I mean they cut out Raziel and Zadkiel. I have the whole series, I was lucky enough to download the whole thing. 3nodding As for my favorites....
Michael! He is one of my top favorite of all of the anime/manga characters I like. And Noise is my favorite girl, you can probably tell by my user name. I tried to make my avi look like her too but I kept adding stuff but I have a good hairstyle (If you compare it to the picture in my profile), I also wanted to change my user name to Lady Noise but I wasn't sure if I wanted to go through with it. XD There are soo many characters I like, Kira, Metatron, Raziel, Lucifer, Setsuna, Arakune, Voice...Okay most of them. I hate Sara thought. I know who I want Setsuna with and its not her. stare

i like the series, Rosiel is one of my fave characters, cant explain why but i like him sweatdrop
kurai is my fave girl, though i thought she was a guy at first....and my friend told me she was a guy.
i love Kaori Yuki's art, i think it's great

I love this series! I haven't gotten the chance to read the 14th book yet...but I want to. Kurei is meh favorite character of all time! ^^

I love Angel Sanctuary, and I wouldn't call it "twisted" really. The ideas in it are actually pretty good ones. Although technically incest is genetically bad, so that's the only thing about it. On the other hand about religion... well... What can I say, I've been atheist since forever. @_@ I mean, Buddhist... yeah, but was part of a sect that didn't really have much religious ideas involved... at all.
Haha! It's funny though... About what Lady_Krysta said... i said that exact smae thing about the manga when I first strated reading it... But now i'm realy far behind... =_=

I love Angel Sanctuary. i could care less about the people against it because if what it shows between the brother and sister. Whatever. It still makes a wonderful story. My mother even liked it ^^
