So what do you guys think? Obviously Lion King and Beauty and the Beast have been huge successes. And I've heard rumors about a Little Mermaid show. Have you seen them? Do you like them?

I have heard rumors of Tarzan in late 2005 or early 2006 and Little Mermaid in development.
Tarzan has already had a reading, but it kinda died down after that. And I think that they are trying to develop a SAFE system to have the mermaids and other sea creatures to "swim" around the stage. Aka wires, but they don't want it to look like flying. I forget where I heard that one, but I thought about it and it DOES make sence.
They could always bring Mary Poppins to America too.
And on a sidenote... I think they should make Aida into and animated feature! They need something like to but some life into their movies! Their best flicks have had a hero, a bad guy, and a princess. Aida has it all.

I saw Lion King a few years ago. All I have to say is WOW!!!!!!!!!!
And actually, I built, that's right BUILT, Beauty and the Beast last summer at a Summer Stock theatre. It's a great musical if you have the right cast.
I would love to see Aladdin as a Broadway musical. The only problems would be Genie and Carpet.

I'm going to see The Lion King pretty soon, on the day of the English Lit AP test. Great. Are they seriously making The Little Mermaid into a musical? That would be the coolest stage show ever in my book. Especially if they take the giant Ursula from "Disney on Ice" and put it on the stage. I love "Poor Unfortunate Souls."
I think they already have a stage version of "Aladdin" at Disneyland in Anaheim, as well as Pocahontas a year or two ago.

This is the way I look at Disney on Broadway, and it's not from the "OMG THE LION KING WAS SO AWESOME" prospective ((side note: it was only ok, didn't impress me much.. didn't like the person that played adult Simba))
I look at it from the angle of the technician and the actor. They're taking away jobs.
Actors are not your typical Broadway performers, most of the time they're Disney Channel stars that they throw onto the stage in order to draw in the fans of that actor ((Beauty and the Beast for example)) Yes, I know this is a common practice, but most of the time its a screen actor crossing over to Broadway on their own, not a Disney actor in a Disney musical.
From the technician angle, they're automating everything. They're making it so there's little need for a 'high tech' show. Lighting is done by clicking a button, they've been known to use canned music, it really is a disgrace to the theatre world. Granted the theatre unions and Disney did settle on some sort of agreement as far as what they can and can't do longer, but Disney is a large company and will keep pulling buttons until they get there way.
So yes, long rant about stuff, but *shrugs*

Well, I, for one, like the shows. I felt like Lion King was overrated because the costumes were so good. I've seen the other two, as well.
I was wondering if anyone knows: is Aida gone from Broadway? I was there this last weekend and walked right by the theater I was sure had Aida before, and now it's empty and up for rental. Also, all the posters that used to have the three plays together on them now just have Lion King and Beauty and the Beast. Am I late here? Has it been gone for a while?

I would love it is Mulan was made a stage production!!!! I love that movie so much it is one of my favourite disney movies!!!
And The Lion King on stage was ok....maybe just because the peformance I saw of it there were so many stuff ups. The little Simba kept on missing words when he was singing and the person who played Zazu dropped the puppet at one stage....and at the very end when the sun came up it had a big kink in it....and made a lovely sound as it came up all tangled....they were just a few things that i noticed....but i think other than that it was a pretty good show! XDD

Lion King, AIDA, Beauty and the Beast=Awesome
Little Mermaid=Most likely going to be awesome
I saw the Lion King in San Fran, and if there were any mishaps, they weren't noticeable. Adult Simba was teh SEX!

I really want to see Lion King and Beauty and the Beast. I'm a huge Disney fan and if The Little Mermaid were to be brought on stage? *gasp* I'd really really want to see it. Pretty much, I think the idea would be great.

PossessedByDevil I heard that they were turning Hunchback into a broadway musical. I heard that too, but then I didn't know if it was DISNEY'S Hunchback or "Notre Dame de Paris." Doesn't matter now... it feel through either way.
