With Ritz's suggestion, I thought I would get this underway.

We have the
For the Preggers thread, which seems to be more pregnancy chat and such.

Here is where your questions concerning pregnancy can go. Hopefully this will cut down on the threads being made and make it easier to find and answer!

With my C-sections (many years ago), they did a 'bikini cut'. Yes, I do have scars that stretch almost all the way across my abdomen but they are not noticeable in anything I might wear.

Also the severity and visibility of a scar can be determined by certain factors,

Care of the wound (one of my cuts for my gallbladder removal was RIGHT under my bra, it's pretty red and scarific to this day due to irritation while it was healing)

Your genetics and race (Keloids are more common in people of African American decent and some people scar more predominantly due to genetics)

And Finally Time (all scars over time get lighter and tend to blend into your skin tone. Before you freak out about how "ugly" the scar may be just wait a bit.)

But if you are worried about how it looks there are always those Mederma? I think it's called Scar topical ointments that reduce visibility of scars, it basically helps the body reabsorb the scar tissue. You shouldn't use these though until the wound is ENTIRELY healed.

How to help reduce tearing with a vaginal delivery. Tearing is always a risk when you deliver. I personally recomend telling your doctor you do NOT want an epesiotmy unless nesessary! It doesn't gaurentee you will not tear and can make things worse. Some doctors still do it routinely.

Several months prior to birth use lubricant (water based or mineroil unless you are using a condom for some reason) and gently streach the perineum (the area at the back of the v****a towards the a**s) This application of gentle pressure towards the a**s will help streach the vaginal opening and reduce the risk of tearing.

Also the less drugs you take the less chance of an assisted delivery such as forceps or suction. Pain medication and epidurals can dull the desire to push so pushing with contractions is harder, and make your pushing less efective. I am not saying you cannot have pain control if you need it, but it can hinder the natural process.

That being said if you have a BIG baby or a difficult birth sometimes there is nothing you can do. If you do tear you may need stiches (my friend had a tear so small that stiching it would have been useless.)

Personally, the perenium stretches were a waste of my time. I did those and did those and I still had an episiotomy. Which, I don't regret, because I know I would have torn badly. MOST doctors do NOT do them routinely in the US. It's important to have a birth plan. I was happy because a straight cut is easier to heal than a ragged tear.

Don't be afraid of pain management (not exactly sure why it was brought up since no one asked), you are no less of a mom than anyone who went drug free. Epidurals can dull the pushing instinct, but not so dramatically. There's nothing wrong with not wanting to hurt.

Ok thanks for the advice there is a thing here called the epi-no and i dont know anyone who has used it but i have had lots of goo feedback for it and it streches the perinum i think it is something that is supposed to help with tearing

I had to have an episiotomy with my first baby since the doctor felt that unless he performed it, the baby would be in the birth canal a long time. I gave my permission. It took about 6-8 weeks to heal but I think I took longer to recover because of the demerrol and the epideral.
My second baby was born naturally and without any drugs (outside of the fact I had to be induced). I tore during delivery and had to have more stitches put in than with the episiotomy but I found that I healed much quicker and felt better. If I were to do it again (which I do not WANT to do lol) I would do it naturally again and without painkillers.
I guess it's really up to you though and what you're comfortable with. One good thing with a C-section is that you can be intimate with your partner quicker but you take a loong time to recover. My youngest sister had an emergency C-section and it was at least a month and a half before she could even climb stairs.

Here're some fun questions rather than really important questions:

When did all you mommies first feel your babies move inside you?
Also, when did your tummies first 'pop'?

I'm looking forward to popping. I'm a little farther along than you and haven't yet. From my last period, I'm 13 weeks, 5 days. Using the timing from my ultrasound, I'm 14 weeks, 2 days.

I think I felt movement around 14 weeks or so with both my pregnancies. With my eldest though it made me laugh. It felt like a butterfly fluttering around in there. smile I felt my youngest start to move around the same time, 14 or 15 weeks but she was no where near the acrobat my eldest was.

I popped both pregnancies at around 6 or 7 months. I had an itty bitty belly for so long and then wammo! basketball! LOL!!

Heh I don't remember how far along I was, I want to say it was about 14 weeks.

I had just gotten to see my hubby after he finished boot camp and after he left to go to AIT, that night I felt it. It was like a pop really! I know they say sometimes it feels like gas, but I just knew and I didn't sleep that night it was so cool!

With my first pregnancy I was 16 weeks to the day and I was on an airplane taking off from Germany as soon as the plane started to go up she kicked really hard.
This time it was around 14 weeksish I felt little fluttering feelings.

As far as poping out, I hadn't totally finished poping in after my first so I had a roundy belly at by the begining of the third month.

Well, I got my due date moved back a week - to Sep 27th with the timing from my ultrasound.
So now our dues are almost the same. 3nodding
