Has anyone read the Bardic Voices or the tale of Five Hundred Kingdoms series? Those are the only ones I have read (thus far) but I hear the others are great as well.

I've just finished reading four and twenty blackbirds...a bit unvonventional in the ending, but I loved it any ways. I think I'll try the Heralds of Valdmar next, (or something close to that spelling) I've heard great thing about it.

All of her herald books are pretty well written. My favorite is still the Last Herald-Mage of Valdemar trilogy, though. Also, Brightly Burning is pretty good.(Do not read these if you can't stand a little depression. wink )

I am a pretty big fan of Lackey's work and have read as many of the Valdemar books as I could get my hands on. They were enjoyable to say the least. I have also read some of her sci-fi books such as 'The Chrome-Born', I quite enjoyed those as well. I have to say, however, that I am not very fond of some of her newer work.

I found The Dragon Jousters series a bit disappointing, not an entirely bad read but not one that gripped me quite as much as some of the others. On the other hand, I'm quite infatuated with her Obsidian Trilogy. 'The Shadow of the Lion' was a blur for me, honestly, I don't hate it but I don't really like it either. It kinda made my eyes cross, I think I will try to reread it, it may have just been the timing or my environment.

What about the rest of you? Any of her work that you particularly disliked or liked?

I would like to reaffirm my faith(or infatuation) with Lackeys Free Bard Series. I found it to be a truly wonderful read. The Fairy Godmother would probably be good for the ladies, but the second book in the series doesn't live up to the standards set by the first... just something to think about.
