In one legend, one of Ganesha's tusks was broken in a fight with Shiva yet in another version he broke it off to use it as a pen for writing a Hindu scripture. I'm confused! sweatdrop

Oh-mi-kaze Gohlico In one legend, one of Ganesha's tusks was broken in a fight with Shiva yet in another version he broke it off to use it as a pen for writing a Hindu scripture. I'm confused! sweatdrop Where the hell did you hear the first one? If Ganesha ever fought Shiva, it was before Ganesha got his elephant head. It was a different fight after Ganesha got his elephant head. I read it in a book. Also, wasn't there a different version where Ganesha's real head was disintigrated by some god named Shani? Now I'm even more confused! gonk

As far as I know, Shiva got real pumped and unleashed his REAL ULTIMATE POWER all over Ganesha's head, which exploded. Then Uma got all pissed at Shiva, and made him get a hid befitting the kid's stature. Since Uma/Parvati molded him into a chubbly kid, Shiva was all like, "You know, he might not look too weird with an elephant's head." And thus, Joe Merrick was born. Which book did you get your story from? It doesn't sound right...

Also the way Ganesh is portioned has a lot to do with what he stands for.

I read ages ago that shiva got cross at ganesh and chopped off his head or something then was sorry and went off and took indra's elephant's head (I think they said it was airavata) and the tusk was broken in the struggle he had getting it... *shrug*
then I read ganesh broke it to use as a pen to write things...

Whaaaaat? If that were the case, Ganesha would have had three tusks instead of one. Airavata is a unique steed in that not only was it white, but it had four tusks as well

I think all those different tusk stories were from different sources in different regions hence the confusion.

What?! heh I am hearing way to many versions. Last time I heard a story that Shiva and Ganesha were fighting cause Shiva thought Ganesha was someone else or whatsoever so he got rid of his head and Shiva realized what he did so he said to him that whatever head he sees is a head that he will give him so they saw an elephant and gave Ganesha and elephant head (well it didnt mention taking the head of the elephant) but I dont know...
How did Ganesha get his elephant head?
