Kumoru sat on a park bench, managing to occupy the whole thing with two books, an inkwell, several sheets of loose paper, and a small folder containing more papers. He would rather do this sort of work indoors, but Donat had managed to convince him that it was too nice outdoors today to stay inside. And so the mage worked at the park, keeping an eye on his son as the goat-boy wandered without a care in the world through the assortment of wildflowers.

At least they had been here before, and Donat had already tried eating everything he could, proving, fortunately, that none of the meadowflowers would do him any harm.

With a content little smile, Donat crawled on all fours across the park's meadow, stopping occasionally to pull up some grass or a dandelion with his four grubby little fingers. Playing in the dirt had already lost its appeal for the day, though, and snacking was getting a bit dull, too. Hopefully something interesting would come up soon, or Donat thought he might just have to go help Daddy read or something....

A small, green figure was shuffling amongst the grasses of the meadow, all four eyes hooked on the fluttering multi-colored creature he was tailing. Nero always found flying bugs fascinating for some reason, and the brighter they were the more attention they grabbed from him. His tail was for once limp behind him rather than in its usual curled position behind him, showing his current content state. It dragged along, occasionally uprooting a flower or two, or tugging up a chunk of grass that got caught on the hook of his stinger.

His guardian was walking a few feet behind--of course. Nero would never wander anywhere alone. Axel eventually gave a disinterested sigh and turned his interest to a woman a few steps away, and he then went up to mingle.

His charge, luckily enough, didn't notice and continued on his merry way--until he was abruptly haulted by a little goat-like-child that was crawling infront of him. He took a startled step backwards, "O-oh!" Both pairs of eyes widened from the initial shock of some little guy who seemingly came out of nowhere. "U-um..." He settled down soon enough, and gave a sheepish smile, "H-hi th-there.."

Donat raised his eyes as he heard a greeting, and peered up at the newcomer. The youngster's smile instantly widened, and he let go of one of the clovers he had been tugging on to wave while he uprooted the other and promptly stuffed it into his mouth.

"Hiya," he said in greeting around the flower in his mouth. If Donat was either phased by the other's appearance, or had any inkling of a feeling that he might be in the way, he gave no sign of it. After a moment's consideration, though, the goat pulled up another flower, and offered it to his new friend.

After a few moments the shock faded away to glee at the prospect of a new playmate. His tail raised slightly, and began to sway behind him a bit, and he temporarily forgot his insect prey in order to hopefully get some socialization in. Perhaps most boys his age would be skeptical about the age gap between the two, but he had yet to take notice of such things. His mind had yet to be tainted by the realization of approaching adulthood, and his heart was still that of a child.

He dropped down to his knees before taking the flower uncertainly, "U-um..." He examined it uncertainly. What was he supposed to do with this...? He glanced at the one in the other boy's mouth and wrinkled his noise. That? He didn't want to eat any flowers... "Wh-what... What're y-you doing?" The preteen asked thoughtfully, bringing the flower up to nibble experimentally on a petal. His tongue poked out. Blechy.

"Havin' a snack," Donat said cheerfully before leaning down to pick at the grass by his knees. The movement of his new friend's tail quickly caught the goat's eye, though, and he leaned to the side to try to get a better view of it.

He had never seen a tail like that before, on anyone else, or even on the creatures on his alphabets coloring pictures. Donat sucked on grassy fingertips for a moment before pointing at the curious tail and declaring, "You have a weird tail. What does it do?" Then he glanced quickly behind himself as he remembered that he had a tail of his own, and figured he should probably check to see what it looked like again.

"S-snack?" The boy echoed doubtfully, eyeing what he had just tasted. Icky. This didn't seem like a very good snack at all... He took another bite to be respectful, though, like his daddy taught him. Ewww. He wrinkled his nose and licked his tongue over his lips. Oh well, he supposed that you like was you like and...

He peered back at his tail as the other brought it to his attention, "Huunnh? U-umm.." He remembered what his tail did. If he stung people, it made them die! He wished he had better control over it, though, because sometimes he'd almost stung things without meaning to. "I-it's poky.. A-and i-if the p-poky t-tip to-touches you i-it makes y-you s-sick." He nodded, and then joined the boy at peering back at his tail. He wasn't quite sure what was going on, but maybe whatever the lad was looking at would be interesting.

"Poky and makes people sick?" Donat repeated, turning back to the scorpion. By his tone, he did not sound the least bit frightened, but rather in awe. "Neater than mine," he assured his friend, then got up and turned his back to Nero. The goat leaned down slowly and put his hands on the ground in front of his feet, and peered back between his legs, wiggling his short fluff of a tail as he giggled.

Then he turned around on all fours back to face the older child again, and nibbled experimentally on the grass before plopping his bottom back down on the ground. Donat looked around a moment, then back to his friend; seeing that he did not seem to be enjoying the amazing salad growing out of the park all around them, the goat thought he should try suggesting a game. "Do you like to play tag?" he asked.

"Y-yep." The boy nodded sagely, he wasn't too fond of his tail. It was kind of scary, with its pokiness and how it made people die. He would have been happy for a softer, nicer tail. Oh well... He blinked as the younger child revealed his tail, and then smiled some, "I-it's fluffy!" Nero pointed out cheerily, pointing a claw in the direction of the wiggling piece of fluff. He had never really seen anything quite like it, atleast not from what he could remember... "I-I like y-your tail b-better." He informed the small lad, his own now-forgotten tail idly swaying behind him.

He watched as the strange child plopped back down and started eating the grass once again, wondering how he could do that. It all seemed kinda icky to him... Oh well, to each their own, really... "T-tag?" All four eyes lit up. Nero was incredibly fond of games and the like. "Y-yeah!" He beamed and nodded. "I-I li-like t-tag!"

Excitedly, the goat ripped up a fistfull of grass and stuffed it into his mouth before quickly climbing to his feet again. "I love tag!" he chimed excitedly.

Then he clumsily stumbled to a position somewhat resembling a runner on the starting blocks, and beamed at his newfound friend. "Not it!" Donat declared, his legs and tail twitching a little in anticipation of being chased. He just watched the scorpion boy for now, figuring he would wait till the other child moved before taking off.

Nero was grinning from ear to ear, his extra legs wriggling in anticipation of the game. He hadn't played this game in a long time, and he usually only played with Axel... So this would be a fun change. He opened his mouth, but was rapidly beat to the 'not it' claim. He didn't care all too much, as long as they were playing.

He then, without hesitation, began running towards his new companion, excitement written all over his face. Yes, fun this would be!

Giggling already, Donat scampered off on all fours, kicking up a few strands of grass in the process. His snack was quickly forgotten with the thrill of being chased. And what better way to make friends than with a great game of tag?

Nero took off after the younger boy, keeping his pace relatively slow at first. The other boy was younger, so he wanted to give him a bit of a better start. Strange older-child-intuition. After moments of letting himself lag slightly, he finally picked up the pace and started actually really getting into the game. No more worries about who was older or younger.

He found himself laughing a few moments into the chase, and then he charged. This green lad had a strange talent for running, although one wouldn't expect the lanky boy to be very athletic at all. His claw was thrust forward, reaching out in an attempt to tap the other boy lightly. If he succeeded, he would then shout "Tag!" and turn quickly on his heel and take off in the opposite direction. If he missed this time, he would stumble slightly but keep up on his feet, and try to once again gain speed.

Donat had slowed down just then to dodge to the side, and suddenly found his hands and feet not getting as much traction as he would have liked. With a sound somewhere between a yelp and a laugh, he slipped and nearly fell, getting tagged in the process.

"I'm gonna get you!" he squealed as his friend turned and ran, giving chase. The goat was not quite built for speed, but he was trying his best anyway. Well, maybe he was falling behind a bit... but that was certainly no reason to stop running!
PostPosted: Tue Jul 11, 2006 8:27 pm

Nero laughed outloud then, adrenaline pumping through him. He ran at full speed for a short while, taking in a deep breath and just grinning to himself. He forgot how much fun it was to play this game. He remembered soon enough who his opponent was, and slowed down accordingly. He was bigger, after all, and had a bit more speed to him. He'd be even faster if he was on all of his legs, but that was still too confusing for him.

In the midst of slowing down on of his lower extra legs drooped a bit, and hooked on his knee. He felt a jolt during his next step as his upper body was pulled rather far downwards, and he ended up tumbling, his legs tangling up a bit in the process. Hesat up immediately afterwards, completely unscathed. He was a tought skinned kid, despite his usual timid behavior. "I-I'm ok-okay!" He began to hastily untangle his legs, finding that hard as he had no hands and his claws were too big and awkward to be of any help. He was soon staggering to his feet, preparing to run again, perhaps a bit too late.

"You okay?" Donat called as he saw his friend trip, sounding a bit concerned. He kept running, though, since he supposed it was a prime opportunity to close some distance. And if the other boy was hurt, the goat supposed he would call time-out or something.

He was instantly reassured at his quarry's response, though, especially since he thought he was just getting into tagging range. That tail was nice and stuck out, and Donat thought it would be good for tagging. Running a bit lop-sided as a result since he did not quite want to rely only on his two legs for motion, Donat stretched out one hand out in front of himself, to try to tag his friend on the tail. That would still count, right?
