Learning how to hunt seemed to come naturally to ever pup; chasing rabbits into the thickets, squirrels up into trees, pouncing on lazy toads and making life miserable for any crows stupid enough to stay on the ground near them. As for Cael, he was no exception to this.
Sunk low onto his stomach was the small pup and his prey; the elusive butterfly.
He never did care to torment and prey upon anything nearly his size as a small Monarch was all he needed to keep him entertained as well as to help him aid in his hunting skills. Countless times he had lunged and leapt at it but each attempt was futile and only sent him falling over his paws and sprawling upon the ground in utter confusion. Miss after miss, Cael wasn't perfecting what little skill he had.
After stumbling to his feet, he rolled up and bared his teeth. "No fair! Just- Just stay still!"
The butterfly flittered tauntingly, perching upon a fallen log just out of reach. Its orange wings flashed enticingly as it rested there. But this was his chance and he sprung-
Into the log.
"OW!"
Falling over with a loud thud against the hollowed log, the young pup fell onto his stomach and pawed at his nose! "Why can't you stay still!" He whined with a muffled cry as he attempted to stagger back onto his feet.
Butterflies...why did they have to be so mean?

Ileana loped along through the trees, keeping her small, blue body near the ground. Her nose was catching as many scents as possible, her dark eyes scanning the dirt and reeds for something, anything to play with. But she had no luck catching the smell of a rat nor the glimpse of snake. But her ears did perk slightly when she heard someone speaking in the distance.
She creeped along, but as she went the sound grew louder and she didn't see a thing. All she saw was a big, funny log in the distance! She assumed the voice was another wolf but...she didn't really feel like meeting them. She was shy, after all. It's just...he sounded like he was chasing something. So, hoping whoever it was wasn't tormenting something she like, she slid over and hid behind the log.
She jumped slightly when the other wolf hit it with a thump! She then saw the butterfly take flight and allowed it to land lightly on her nose. She didn't like butterflies as much as some other critters-their wings were too bright, but they were still pretty neat. After giving the butterfly a friendly look she lifted herself slightly so she could look over at the other pup, "What were ya doing?"

His ears perked upwards suddenly as the voice of another broke through the silence. Withdrawing his paws from atop his muzzle, Cael shifted them through the dirt and withered leaves. "Dad says I have to work on my hunting skills. He says I'm not as strong as the other wolves from the pack and I have to prove myself," he replied with a soft sight. "I'll never be like him."
Stumbling onto all fours, the young pup slowly turned around and faced the newcomber. His vibrant green-turqouise eyes settled upon the young wolfess as a warm and rather embarrassed smile spread wide across his maw. Cael plopped down on his haunches as his black lathered tail swayed behind him in a pleased manner.
"My name's Cael. I'm not from around here...well, I'm not sure where I am," he remarked with an ever-present smile as he tilted his head slightly. "I wandered off from the pack but soon my Dad's gonna find me."
Ah, the never ending curosity had led the pup astray. Cael couldn't contain his ever blooming curosity but, this time, it seemed to be leading him into another long adventure and a game of hide and seek for good 'ol dad. But shouldn't he had been here by now? The sun was already starting to descend into the afternoon and he had wandered off early when the sun began to peak high into the morning sky.
Cael wrinkled his muzzle with a slight worry. Dad, are you gonna find me? Are you looking for me?
Readjusting his head to view the young pup before him in a better perspective, he smiled. "Who are you? Are you from around here or are you lost too?"

Ileana's ears flickered backwards slightly and she ducked her head, making it hard to see her eyes among her dark markings. Well, he sure was talkative! That was quite the opposite of what she was...on the contrary, she prefered to stay away from others...because...well, she never quite knew what to do around other wolves. She was just a shy pup, after all.
But she had asked, hoping to get an answer about the critter and not his life story. It made her feel awkward, because she wasnt' sure she wanted to know all that. And she wasn't sure she wanted to give her name either. Hesatently she murmured, "...I'm Ileana...and...yeah...I live around here..."

His ears flickered while a sheepish grin slid across his maw. He was talking too much again and, from the young wolfess's expression, he was rambling. A hesistant chuckle drew softly from his chest as his black lathered tail wagged back and forth behind him.
"Sorry...sometimes I can't seem to stop talkin'," he mused with a remorseful and pondering reply. "Ileana, nice to meet you."
Vibrant green eyes wandered about, deviating in every direction as he was searching for anything that resembled or struck familiarity. He was lost and he was somewhat perplexed as to where exactly he was. The menacing butterfly had led him miles from home. Why did curosity have to lead him into trouble?
"What is this place? I've never been here....Is this still part of Tesan's territory?"
His muzzle scrunched and wrinkled in deep thought, his mind attempting to recall if these were indeed part of their packslands. But only if he knew that he had journeyed to unfamiliar territory fright would overcome him. It was best if Cael remained oblivious to his destination least he was to let fear succumb his every ounce of curiosity.

Bah. If he talked to much it could be easily said Ileana talked too little. She remained where she was, her body hunched over slightly in shyness and her ears stiff with discomfort. Being social was just not her thing. At least, not when it came to wolves. It was odd how she could converse more easily with a rat or snake then with someone like herself.
She blinked at his question. Tesan? The name didn't sound familiar. He must have wandered pretty far then. Sometimes she wished she could do that too. "I don't think so...I don't think anyone claims this place," she said simply, not saying more then she had to.

A slight frown drew up upon his maw as his green orbs began nervously darting about. Where was he?...These weren't Tesan's packlands so that must mean-
"Uh-oh," he muttered softly, whispering low as his ears fell back slightly. "Dad's gonna be so mad."
His small black and purple hued tail slid somewhat between his legs as he huddled close, encircling about himself as he pulled his ears back and fiercely clenched his eyes shut. Cael had never wandered out of Tesan's territory and, after witnessing the punishment of yelling and sever scolding, the young pup could only anticipate the fear that would knot his stomach unceasingly. It was never a pretty sight to see Satriel angry, let alone any of the adults.
As his eyes shot open, his mind trying to convey that his mess was only the mendings of a bad dream, Cael huffed and whined softly. "Tell me it's a dream....I have to be dreaming! Dad's gonna yell at me again!"

Ileana wasn't sure what to think. She had never seen a pup so scared before. It was odd...because her brother and sisters were all pretty brave, if only because they were all insane or whatever. She really didn't know what to do. She wasn't sure she wanted even to be talking with another wolf, let alone figuring this out! It was so awkward for her...and it made her nervous.
"Uh..." She slunk over to him uncertainly, looking as if she would rather walk on coals. What if she screwed up?! Ahhh, this was awful! "Mm...it's not a dream but...uh...no one will yell a you...it's ok..." She sat uncomfortably beside him, looking at him with confusion reflected in her dark orbs.

His ears flickered slightly, shifting forwards as he glanced up at Ileana with a small smile drawing up upon his maw. Cael tilted his head slightly. "It's not a dream," he mused over, the words which he could only dread sliding off his tongue with a sickly sensation.
But-what was this?
No one would yell at him?
"Are- are you sure?" He questioned with a slightly shakey voice; his confidence having yet to find its place within his bones, asserting and finding the strength within to be brave. To be just like his father...
Drawing his head up slightly from the slump, his smile spread wider as he wuffed low.
"I guess there isn't much to fear," he commented as he flattened his ears against his skull. "I-I wish I could be brave like you."
