Chapter One: A New Child
The snow fell gently out side the limo. Silence fell in the Smith car. Brian stared out the window, as usual, he was lost in his own thoughts. While Kri, on the other hand, was reading a book. Amy,Kris' and Brians' mother, looked at Roger,Kris' and Brians' father, with a slight nod.
"Kri,Brian" Kris mother began "remember how I told you we wanted another child?"
Kri looked up and over at Brian while Brian looked over and down at Kri. Both completely lost at what their mother was saying. Since they were in the small limo they had no choice but to listen to their mothers sermon.
"What your mother is trying to say is we believe it best if we adopted another child" Roger stepped in.
This was one of the few moments that Kri actually had any emotion on her face. Kris eyes widened as she heard this shocking news. The rest on her face stayed the same but her eyes were filled with utter shock.
"Mom," Brian tried to break the silence "don't you think that's a bit foolish?"
"What do you mean?" Amys head jerked back as if she was appoled.
"We're barely getting out of debt and you want another mouth to feed?" Brian made a hand gesture as the car took a right.
"That's
why we're getting another child,my boy" Roger snuffed at his mustash "so he can earn money and help out around the house"
"Wait," Kri had to jump in "we're getting another boy?" Kris blonde eye brow rose.
"Why,yes,Kri! Don't be silly! If we get another boy he'll be able to be an apprentis to your father" Amy looked over at Roger who was smiling with girlish glee.
"Great, another lawer" Brian rolled his eyes and set his elbow on the car arm rest.
"Don't be disrespectful to your father,Brian!" Amy commanded.
Brian only threw a glare at his mother then went back brutting while looking out the glass window.
"Well,Kri,maybe you'll be delighted to know we're adopting him the same place we adopted you" Amy nodded softly.
A knot grew in Kris' stomach. Her orphanage? She had more enimes there then she did in her new life. What was this women thinking? Still,Kri had no room to argue, the Smiths did adopt her and save her from that inferno.
"Have you decided who you're going to adopt?" Kri asked blandly. She really did want to know but she knew how to control her emotions.
"Well," Roger jumped right back into the conversation "we decided he can be no younger than 14 and no older than 17"
"You know, when you adopt a child at that age they already have a mind of their own" Brian looked his father square in the eye.
"We broke Kri out of the habbit of chewing her nails,he'll be no different" the large man Roger relaxed hi head on the head rest.
In a sense that was in fact a put down to Kri. Then again Kri was use to being put down and smacked around by her superiors.
"Yes" the thin, tall Amy agreed while nodding her head with a fake smile.
Kri simply blinked at the odd couple. At first glance you'd probably see Roger and Amy as a "super star couple" because Roger was 50 years of age and Amy was only around 36 or younger, the women had so many inplants no one knows how old the lady really was.
Within a five minute period the Smith family was home at their rather large home. Kri was rather upset by this news but convinced her self that it wouldn't matter later on. Kri was the last out of the small limo.
"I think I'll take a walk" Kri said as her eyes closed and began to walk.
"Ok,dear!" Amy waved at Kri as she opened the front door.
"Be back by dinner time!" The 5'5" Mr.Roger yelled "Lets go in shall we?" Roger pointed a puggy finger inside.
"I think...I'll take a walk too" Brian said as he jogged to Kri.
Roger grunted as he used his cane to walk into the house. The buttlerthat drove them home closed the door behind Amy.
"Kri," Brian shoved his hands into his coat pocket "don't listen to what they said"
"What are you talking about?" Kri looked at Brian through the corners of her eyes.
"They referred to you like a dog and that was crule, like they can change people at the snap of their fingers" Brian grunted. The silver haired boy soon to be a man stopped.
"Soon, you'll be able to live on you own,and you won't need to be with them" Brian knew his parents, his blood parents which were Roger and Amy. They were crule, mean and unjust. They always sided with each other and never tried to understand. One of the favorite games to play was belittle the child where the object of the game was to make the child feel guilty for what they, in fact, didn't do. A second or two after Brian said what he did the short, blonde stopped and turned around to look up at Brian.
"I can't leave them like that" she said mono-toned.
"What?" the six foot man looked at Kriwith confussed written all over his face.
"They gave me a home when I had nothing, they put a roof over my head when I was rained on and they gave me food when my stomach growled for food...I just can't leave them because their kind of unjust" Kri explained her reasonings as she turned around to stare at Brian.
To her this made sense she believed in the law of Equivalent Trade. By them giving her everything she needed she decided that she'd pay them back by her pleasing them as much as she could and being there for them when they needed her most.
"Kri,don't be an idiot" Brian stared into Kris green eyes.
All he could see in Kris eyes was a life of hurt and betrayal.
"I'm not, I'm just thinking logically, if you go by the law of Equivalent Trade I'm getting off fairly easy. At this point I owe them my life but I'm not that stupid to just kill my self" the adopted child Kri looked at Brian with her green eyes of sadness.
"I plan on paying back your mother and father as much as I can and I can't do that if I'm not around" Kri turned around to make her back face Brian.
The chilly wind began to pick up which caused Kris' hair and Brians hair to dance to the left. Brian pondered as to why Kri would be so lawful to her word while Kri thought of a way to convince Amy and Roger not to get a child from Britans all famous Rose Orphanage. This caused the rest of the walk to be silent.
When Brian opened the door to their house he saw the fire place going and ploped on the couch. Kri looked at the dancing fire and then turned her head to the stairs before she could reach the top Amy called for her.
"Kri" Amy yelled "help me to laundry!"
Kri sighed at this statement. She hated doing the laundry still she troted down the stairs and to the laudry room.

The very next day Kri went to school to be with her freind and absorb knowladge. When Kri got home she wouldn't know what hit her.
"Son,this is your new house!" Roger walked slowly into the main hallway.
"Whoa,holy..." the brown haired boy dropped his luggage on the floor "you ain't messin' with me are you pops?"
"Oh no,this is your home" Roger patted the boy on the back "So strong, you will be perfect for the jobs around here" Roger chuckled making his fat go up and down.
"Heh,yeah" the 5 foot 11 boy rolled his eyes.
Slowly but surely the navigated into the living room.
The front door, which were double doors, opened to reveal Kri.
"Sir,I'm home!" she announced rather lightly.
Yelling that you were home was a house rule. A weird house rule you say well Roger found it to be a good way of knowing who walked into the house. If the door opened, people whould know since a little cow bell would sound twice, and no one yelled they would know someone in the house wasn't a Smith.
"Kri,you're home, meet you're new brother!" Roger shouted from the living room. Kri saw luggage on the main hallway this immidatly earned a brow raise.
'New brother? They didn't...' Kri thought as she walked into the royal like living room.
'No...no it can't be' Kri thought as she took a step back.
Kris peach lips opened slightly as her eyes widened.
The brown haired boy smirked as his head tilted slightly to the right.
"This is-" Roger was cut off by Jason talking.
"Jason" Jason said fully pleased by Kri reaction.
Kri dropped her books onto the russin carpet making a slight thud.
