Loki://Background Information

History://Loki, the Norse god of mischief. The trickster, and the shapeshifter. Malevolent as a fresh spring thunderstorm at times, sweet as a kitten at others. He's not good, he's not evil. He's neutral. Nothing really concerns him except mischief.

Which is why he was so interested, when he found out that Balder had been made immune to every weapon, item, or poison, except for mistletoe. He joined the other gods, who were playing games by throwing all items they could find at Balder, and watching them bounce off, leaving Balder unscathed.

It was an opportunity Loki could not stand to let up. He gave the blind god a fresh sprig of mistletoe, and directed the god's hand at Balder. The blind god, of course had no idea what was going on, and so he slayed Balder with his mistletoe.

The gods, who had been quite fond of Balder, turned in fury upon Loki. They banished him. Since they could not kill him, they chained him up to three rocks -- one to his shoulders, one to his croch, and one to his knees. And above him they placed a venomous snake, one that dripped posion down upon him, one drop after another.

His wife was also banished. She stood there, holding a bowl right above Loki's forehead, to catch the venom that dripped from the fangs of the snake. However, every now and then the bowl would fill up, and she would turn to the side to empty it, allowing the venom to hit Loki's forehead, putting him into such agony that the hills of earth shook. And there the two were to stay, forever, until the end of time. And at the end of time, at the Ragnarok, Loki was to be set free of his chains once more.

Recently://But the Ragnorak was taking too long for the couple. Loki could no longer stand to be chained there. Had he not waited hundreds of years? When was the end of time to arrive? They were both in great agony at their fate.

So Loki and his wife devised a plan.

The matter of a god is made of two things: power, and vision. The power was the equivalent of a god's spirit. The vision was what they were embodied in, and how they were viewed. The two often affected each other. And if you could take one away from the other, terrible things could happen.

"My wife," Loki said one day, looking up at the rim of the bowl above his head, "that bowl is almost full."

Sigyn, Loki's wife, replied that it was.

"I don't think I can stand the venom to drip on me this day," said Loki, in an agitated voice.

"You have no choice," Sigyn replied bluntly.

Loki gave an elaborate sigh. "Please understand that today I am already feeling squeamish, and I could bear no more pain."

"And what do you propose I do about this, my husband?" asked Sigyn, now interested despite her misgivings.

"Well, it involves a bit of your help. I plan to escape my embodiment, and have my power go down to someplace new, to pretend to be a mortal for a while."

"You would not survive on earth," Sigyn said.

"It doesn't have to be earth. In fact, I'd prefer it not be. Evryone looks the same on earth. I want a better world, that allows me to truly express myself."

Sigyn stared at Loki as if he were insane. "So how are we going to free your power from your vision?" she asked incredulously.

Loki smiled mischieviously. He had given this a lot of thought. "My wife, I am going to tell you the story of my life, since I was just a screaming baby, to how I am here now."

"That will take some time," said Sigyn mildly.

"Yes, but do we not have all the time in the world?" Loki asked, in a disgusted voice. "Listen. After I have given you my memories, I wish you to bring them down to a new world, and give them a new body. I will give you as much power as I think is safe, so that the new body will also resemble me slightly."

"Will the posion not drip on you all the time as I try to find a new body for you?" Sigyn asked.

"It does not matter. With my memories gone, I will be but a body. I will have no soul to speak of, so even if my body experiences great pain, it could not effect my soul. Please, my wife, we must make haste."

Loki began telling the story of his life.

4/5. whee

So he was chained up. Yeah. And everyone was like "Yeah. He's gonna be free on the Ragnarok! HOMGWTF!1111!!1oenoeneleveeenntytwo!"

But yeah. In my little story-type- thing he gets free somehow, in the form of a memory... he's still chained up, but it's more like his body's chained up, and his memory relives itself in the form of an Anima.
