It's not that uncommon for some girls not to wear them and develop at age 11/12. I didn't wear a bra till 14.
From what you're saying though, it's pretty obvious. Just sit down with her as a friend and explain to her you're telling her this as a friend because there are some sick bastards out there. She probably doesn't mean to do it, bras are something it takes to get used to! I know a lot of my friend's daughters like to wear things with the bras built in to start to get used to them, maybe you could suggest that or talk with her mother.

[!This Sheet is bananas!] Yea.She lives with her Dad,I don't know if that would have anything to do with it. It probably does. I got a bra before my mom died, but I lived with my dad, and I learned how to shave late, and never learned how to use makeup and stuff... I think... maybe you should invite her over, and have your mom talk to her about girl stuff. She might be embarassed, but unless she sees her mom, she'll probably be grateful in the long run.

Even if she's embarassed, she needs to learn to wear one if she's starting to develop a chest. It's not appropriate for her to be around her father or other males without a bra, and especially when going braless with a see-through top.
Perhaps your mother or a female relative could explain things to her. Even a close female friend, one who is already going through puberty and is already wearing a bra.
Not to mention that a proper fitting bra is important for her, so that her developing chest gets the support it needs. I got lots of hand-me-down bras from my cousin when I was younger, and I suspect some never fit me properly, because I have stretch marks on my breasts.

I got lots of hand-me-down bras from my cousin when I was younger, and I suspect some never fit me properly, because I have stretch marks on my breasts. I agree with most of this, including the importance of well-fitting bras, but, you can get stretch marks with good fitting bras, too. If I remember my stretch-mark education from a family friend, there's two causes... One is sagging from ill-fitting bras, or just the weight. The other is your breasts/thighs developing faster than your skin can handle, and it stretches. But, yeah. I would think it's more embarassing having your father see your nipples. And NEVER assume anyone knows "girl stuff"... Until coming here, I had NO idea on how to put on a tampon... and I'm 19! AND I've had friend's mothers help me for a while now. So... maybe her mom's shy about talking to her about random things? You never know.

i didnt start wearing one till .. hmm .. last year? lol. But I'm only 13 now, so yeah. When I was in 6th grade I didn't wear one, but mainly because I had nothing to hide.
*ahem* .. So anyway .. sweatdrop
If it bothers you, then you should tell her. Pull her over to the side one day and just say, "As I friend, I think you should start thinking about buying a bra." And then say something to break the awkwardness, like, "If you want, I can come and help you pick you out," or, "I wear one too! they're really comfertable."

Shujo-jo right I know I'm not a girl, but what if she just doesn't want to wear one? or, if she just didn't wear it that time You do have a valid point, but there comes to be a point where you absolutely need to wear a bra, no matter if you want to or not. And I'm curious as to why she would wear a see through top braless. I mean, I wear camis and bras under see-through tops. But either way, you have to make your friend wear bras. Just give her a slight nudge in the right direction or something. Like, ask her to go shopping with you and go into a shop that sells bras and suggest she gets some or something.

In all honesty, being a mature young woman who developed early (I was 12 when I first wore a bra, but started getting boobs at 11, when I hit puberty) but they are HORRIBLY uncomfortable, even the ones that have been fitted properly. So I can understand why she might not want to wear one.
Why not suggest a shopping spree and look at girlly undies and bras. She doesn't have to wear an underwire bra (I do, but I don't like wearing ones with no underwired bras, even though I hate wired as well) Shop for nice pretty bras that aren't wired. They are comfy, and a lot of them give great support if and where it's needed. All shops that sell bras offer free fitting, so she can get fitted as well.
But be honest with her, don't beat about the bush. Tell her it was noticeable she wasn't wearing one and that perhaps it's time she started doing so. If you don't mind me asking, has she got some bumps or is she flat chested? If she's flat chested there are training bras for her age, and a lot of them do look pretty. She is at an age that not all girls really think about bras, I know I didn't until a friend said point blank I should start wearing one. It was harsh, but if ya need one ya need one. They also help for better development, as long as it's only worn during the day (though there are ones made for night wearing).

My room mate has this thing about trying to snap my bra. = since we're on the topic of bras, dare I ask, is this abnormal?
