Here's the story, in the form of a perspective piece (New York Times) following the carpenter who spotted would-be attacking terrorists in Baghdad, and with his relatives attacked first as they exited the vehicle, to the tune of three "insurgents" killed and no good guys killed. As he put it:
Dhia
We attacked them before they attacked us. We killed three of those who call themselves the mujahedeen. I am waiting for the rest of them to come and we will show them.
Also, further down:
The New York Times
It was the first time that private citizens are known to have retaliated successfully against insurgents. There have been anecdotal reports of residents shooting at attackers after a bombing or assassination. But the gun battle today erupted in full view of half a dozen witnesses, including a Justice Ministry official who lives nearby.

The battle was the latest sign that Iraqis may be willing to start standing up against the attacks that leave dozens of people dead here nearly every week. After a suicide bombing in Hilla last month that killed 136 people, including a number of women and children, hundreds of residents demonstrated in front of the city hall every day for almost a week, chanting slogans against terrorism. Last week, a smaller but similar rally took place in Baghdad. Another demonstration is scheduled for Wednesday in the capital.
Good job, guys! xd

What's sad is, there are still going to be people insisting that the Iraqis are not interested in fighting the terrorists (or "insurgents" as the left likes to call them).

True, but these people are determined to survive, and their survival is threatened by these people...it is good to see them standing up for themselves.

I say...

What took so long! We need to offer a bounty on terrorists. Then see what happens.

Any thoughts on this?

It's reassuring to see the Iraqi people taking their country back from their local al-Qaida franchise who have tried to set up shop in Iraq.

We here in southern California are lucky enough to have Captain Dale Dye on a local talk radio station. He made an interesting observation a few nights ago on his show which I was fortunate enough to catch: The Iraqis see a Saudi Bin Laden telling a Jordanian al-Zarqawi to bomb Iraqis.
