I have two dogs. The dominant female (Samantha) likes to look out our large front window to keep watch over what little of our neighborhood she can see.
So, whenever another dog walks by, she leaps up on her hind legs and starts scratching the window. HARD. And barking at the top of her lungs.
We have tried the spray bottle method, and though that works on our other dog, it does not work on Samantha. We have considered putting mousetraps near the window so that when she starts scratching it, they'll snap and surprise her into stopping (there's only one place she'll scratch from, so there's no problem of her getting snapped by the traps).
Do any of you have other suggestions for how to train her to stop trying to destroy our window to get at other dogs?

Mousetraps might work. However, creating a trap so that a jar of pennies falls over every time she touches the window should work with the same effect, and would probably be more humane (and cheaper, if you don't have any mousetraps at the moment). Make sure that the jar makes a very loud noise when it falls.

The jar of pennies idea works very well. You could also try rolling strips of duct tape (so that it sticks to the window and has a sticky side out) and putting it where she scratches- Animals HATE the sticky feeling.
