ok I have a question, who here gets annoyed when someone asks you about the book your reading?

I cant stand it>.
For some reason people like to talk to me when Im eating luncha nd reading, and come up and ask what Im reading, etc.
I mean, I know its just being friendly, but I ahte people who say:
"Whatcha reading?, is it interesting?whats it about?"
Go and get it yourself! scream

Usually I pop a book open when a bunch of people are talking nearby about something I dont care about,so they try and drag me into the conversation.
Ex:
Sitting at my seat, yawnign a bit and reding until class. The guy next to me kinda nudges his friend and leans towards me.
"Yo, watcha reading?"

"A book..."I reply, not wanting to talk to this person cause this book is good>.
"what kinda book?"

"A fantasy"(leave me alone damnit!)

"whats it called?"
Lifting the book up and showing him the title.

"Oh, Cool, is it good?"(if Im reading it well....)

"yes"

"whats it about?"

Sigh.Set the book down."Its a bit hard to explain without reading it"(i.e., I dont want to talk, leave me alone, I want to finish, then ill tell you)

"Oh...ok"

I don't know if it bothers me that much. If I am very into a book, I will just lift up the cover and show them. The person will usually just look and walk away with an "oh".

I hate it when people can CLEARLY see what you're reading and then they're like, "Oh, is that Frank McCourt you're reading?"

I just stare and go, "No. It's Teen Vogue."

If you're going to start a conversation, don't state the obvious. It's annoying. >.<

I absolutely hate when people do that. It's okay if it is people who are in to books as deeply as I am because they know to:

1. Wait till I set the book down to ask.
2. Not ask the obvious.
3. Start an intelligent conversation instead of asking a bunch of idiotic questions that don't care really.
4. Actually be interested.
5. KNOW NOT TO EVER TAKE A BOOK I AM READING OR THAT I OWN AWAY FROM ME.

Asking if you like the book is perfectly reasonable because sometimes we must read for assignments, and those are not always enjoyable tasks.

It doesn't bother me if others ask me what I am reading. It gives me a chance to pass on a potentially good book for people to read.

I annoys me a little, but I can live with it. I just lift the cover and then turn away.
It's the morons that lean over and Leer (Morons are very good at leering) as they mutter threateningly (For them anyway) "Wotyareadinfur?"

Thankfully I've had very few true morons aproach me. But then, it does make me thankful that I'm not a prehistoric throw back......

Doesn't bother me at all. I'm always curious about what others are reading and I love to be able to share with others what I'm reading. Plus, where I live, people like to make conversation with strangers in public places and I kind of like that. It's comfortable being in that type of community. So no, doesn't bother me in the least. I'm more than willing to set my book down for a few minutes so I can answer a few questions about it. Because hey! In that conversation, I might end up getting something recommended to me that I would not have otherwise discovered and I like it when others start friendly conversations with me!

The only time that bothers me is if I'm reading a complicated book, so when they ask, "Oh, what's it about?" I have to kind of shrug and say, "Well, there's this priest, but he's really from the past because there was this time warp with a dragon--the dragon is a god, I think, because they make references to him creating all this stuff, and if he's a god that gets into, like, free will and destiny and stuff--and anyway the priest is in love with this woman but she's got assassins after her but nobody knows that yet, that was just in this side chapter, and so..."

And then I get blank stares, and I trail off and end with, "It's a really cool book, though... You should read it some time..."

But besides my inability to describe anything more complicated than "Person A goes to Point B", I don't mind telling people about the books I'm reading. If it's a good book, and I get them interested in it, then I think that's great.

I don't mind. Usually, I like the opportunity to tell someone about a book (and usually, they don't ask again wink ). I also agree with Alienarose; sometimes good things come from it. Although, I personally don't go up to people and say "what are you reading," when I can clearly see the book. I'd say something like, "oh, I've heard a lot about that book. Do you like it?"

It depends on how good my book is. If I'm reading and just want to have something to do, then I usually don't mind. However, if I'm really diving into the world of whatever book it is then I'll want to kill the person after they speak two words.

I hate it too. It happens at school all the time. I used to read in the library, but now it's closed during the breaks. And all the irritating little twelve/thirteen year old boys (okay, I'm only fourteen) stand around me calling me mad.
Okay I always sit alone on the stairs, but they still don't have to call me mad. They're the ones who are mad.
I try to ignore them as much as possible. Because they only annoy me to impress the popular older boys. But then they start saying that I'm deaf, and they start waving they're hands in front of my eyes. Most of the times
I reply at such a moment. But in my self made little language. I say: "po tor" or "les graxi".
Then thay start asking me what it means (get lost, and a book). I tell them to figure that out theyrselves. And most of the time, lessons start at that moment. So I could barely read my book.
I absolutely hate them. I still don't know how they can be that stupid! *shouts me vero les se netew koo (and I don't want to know it (something like it))*

Oh, I don't mind too much.
Mostly because I can't hear them! >:3
People around here know that it is not good for their health to bother me when I am reading.
Especially since most of what I read are rather large hard covers. *cackle*

I don't mind most of the time. It only bothers me when people ask dumb questions, such as "What are you reading?" -- they can look at the cover and see. I also don't really like the "what's it about?" question, because the plots of books are far too intricate for me to just give someone a summary. Usually when my friends do this I tap the back of the book or give them the dust cover where the summary is. blaugh

But what bothers me most is when people won't get the hint that I'm trying to read. I've literally had people not stop talking even after I answer a question and turn promptly back to my book. It's very annoying. -_-;

I'm quite graceful in handling these situations...therefore I just smile and say "It's not more interesting than you"

and then I entertain the person until they leave me alone and I can go back to reading.. heart 3nodding whee

I'm not very talkative and I always have some sort of book on me
for some reason everyone assoseated with me sees the fact that I'm not socable as somesort of project for them, so they try to use the book thing as a way to force me to talk to them sweatdrop

I useually just tilt the book up and ignore them now though stare
