what's this big deal with the Doctor and ginger hair? I've read a number of fanfictions and they almost always make a crack about a regeneration having(or not having) ginger hair.

Just something the doctor says in Christmas Invasion to Rose
Doctor: Am I ginger? Rose: No, you're just sort of..brown.. Doctor: Damn, I wanted to be ginger!! etc. etc.
I suppose most fanfics took their line from that..

A friend of mine back when I went to school tried to die her hair red, it looked the same as before so she shrugged it off and figgured it was cause her hair was dark. Well turns out the type of lights they use in the scool made it look purple so she ended up walking around in school with purple hair.

Ginger's the male equivelant of a blonde...at least in England at any rate. I don't mean they're considered the same thing but it's a colour that holds an unnecessary amount of prejudice towards it in popular culture due it being the hue of choice of such legendary figures as Mick Hucknell and Chris Evans.
So yeah...it's just a British stigmatism thing...not too sure if it translates that well elsewhere in the world. It's like being bald. Everyone makes fun of the ginger.

I thought it was something like that. *sigh*
It sucks being so far behind where the series is actually at. For one thing, it makes it bloody difficult to avoid spoilers.

Wind-Whisper I thought ginger hair was the same in England as red hair is in America. I would have thought more americans would know by now because of that south park episode. Gingers are pale red headed people with freckles. A lot of people in certain parts of england consider them to be souless. No Nobody hates gingers here in the states. Although whenever I see my friend Jason who is Ginger I yell 'GINGER! YOUR A GINGER!' and then glomp him.

I did see that ginger episode of South Park, but I just thought Parker and Stone had decided to make Cartman a little more randomly biased than normal.
