The dirt-coloured lioness padded her way across the Southlands, a place that had been her home for most of her recent life. And even though she lived here for so long, she had never fully explored the lands that she called home. So today, feeling a little more sure of herself then normal, she made her way around parts of the lands, looking to see what else that there was out here in the warm, loosly populated lands.
Not too far in her journey, she found what appeared to be some sort of giant rock. Slowly making her way closer to it, she noticed that it was like a cave, cool enough to keep yourself comfortable in even the warmest part of the day. Nervous to just bolt right in, she peered around, trying to see if anyone was inside. Not seeing anyone... she thought. She still didn't want to bolt right in, so instead she gave out a soft call.
"H-hello? Is anyone...in here?"

Yakuti's ears perked up, he hadn't been asleep, but he had been resting, the call sounded like it came from a female, and a large one at that. Well, large compared to him anyway. He looked around the den, it belonged to himself, and a wild dog named Jamaa, it was a comfortable place, with two chambers, the guest chamber, which was much larger, and the masters chamber, which was smaller. The hyena was currently in the masters chamber, and the guests chamber was empty, but was often inhabited by those in need of shelter.
"If you're wondering who's here, why don't you come inside?" Yakuti called back lazily, he wouldn't mind company, and didn't particularly feel like getting up, as his back right leg had a large cut on it and hurt to walk.

The lioness' ears flicked back and forth, trying to catch the voice she heard as it echoed a bit off the rock walls.
"I just...wanted to make sure I wasn't being rude." She slowly made her way in, peering this way and that, still not sure of where the voice came from. "I've never seen this cave before, so I was just...curious."
Her nose twitched as she sniffed the air. Smelled like males. But...not lions...so perhaps nothing wrong would happen.

The young hyena quivered, he had seen her before she saw him, and he wasn't particularly fond of lions... But this one seemed so polite and gentle, she probably wasn't so bad. "So long as you are not an enemy, you are welcome here." Yakuti said, trying to sound adult and mature. He stood up akwardly so she would be able to see him better, and tested his hurt leg. It didn't hurt much anymore, so he decided to walk on it, though running on it probably wasn't the best idea.

Nyota started as she noticed the hyena. A...bright blue hyena. She blinked at him a few times, trying to take in the flashy colour of his coat. Definately more flashy then her own coat, one of mud and dirt. She shyed a bit before answering what he had spoken, her tail drooping along with her head.
"No, no enemy. I've just been living in these lands for so long, but had never seen it all...so I was just exploring what else there was to see. I'm sorry to of bothered you...umm..."
Not knowing his name, she just fell quiet, glancing around at the cave. "M-my names Nyota, if you were wondering..."

"Then you are welcome," Yakuti said, the responsibility of having his own den made him want to be polite and mature. "And you didn't bother me, I could use some company." He stood and looked up at her, she was many times larger than himself, she would have been quite intimidating if she wasn't so nice.
"Its a pleasure to meet you Nyota, my name is Yaktui"

Nyota puased before she padded closer, a little suspicion in her face. Could she really trust him? Granted, he was smaller then her, but she had no experience in any sort of struggle, so she really didn't know where the two of them 'stood'.
"It's....good to meet you, Yakuti." She gave a soft bow. "You do seem really...kind for a hyena. All the ones I've come across were...scary, really."
She sniffed at the air again, catching the scent of the hyena better. "Hope that this isn't rude but....do you know how long you've been living here?" She shyed her head down a bit, feeling a little ashamed at being so direct, but her curiosity was getting the better of her today.

"Yes, I have been told that most hyenas are much more... Difficult to get along with than myself, some even go so far as to be distrustful towards me because of the others of my kind." Man, Yakuti was becoming quite the smooth talker, or at least he thought so.
That was an interesting question, but he answered anyway, "I personally have only been living here for a few days, it has been passed down to me very recently, but my friends family has been using it for generations." He said calmly, though he may have forgotten to mention that his friend was a wild dog, not a hyena.

Nyota's tail twitched as the young hyena spoke to her. Hmmm, quite a talker for one so young... she thought. She allowed him to finish speaking before replying, intrigued that it had been here for so long, and only now did she notice it.
"Fascinating." She walked through this larger' room, glancing at the rock walls and floor, just thinking of all the paws that had stood here before them. It made her feel somewhat of an outsider though, for she had no right to really be in here, then.
"Well, I'm glad that you are here, safe, since I can tell that you've been wounded recently." Her ears flicked back. "Though I'm not trying to threaten you. Just...your scent says so. Sorry if I wasn't to mention that."
She sat herself down a bit from the hyena, watching him. A friend, hmm? Well, since she was quite brave today, might as well inquire about that friend, too. "Is there anything you can tell me about this friend of yours? Just so perhaps he won't seem so much of a stranger if I pass by him on the lands?"

"Yes, a rock became lodged in my leg," Yakuti said, indicating his right rear leg, "But I am recovering quite quickly. And I don't mind you mentioning it, its fine."
Hmmm, this lioness was quite polite, and curious, but the way she asked made him feel as though he should answer, she was so curteous. "My friends name is Jamaa, a dark brown wild dog." He explained, "Jamaa is the one who removed the rock from my leg, and he has been taking care of me."
Yakuti watched as the lioness examined the walls, and decided to show her the wall with the pawprints on it. "If you want to see something fascinating, come and look at this wall." Yakuti said, indicating the one wall that was unlike the others. It was not stone, but hardened dirt. It was covered with pawprints. "This is the wall that has been marked by all the owners of this den, it shows how old it really is."

Nyota's ears flicked forward as he mentioned a rock in his leg. A rock? She'd never had that happen to her, and it sounded very painful...her scars on her shoulder burned lightly at the memory of pain...nothing had hurt as that had....but best to keep it away.
She shifted her weight as the name drifted into her ears. "Jamaa, hm? I haven't met him, but perhaps I will..." She kept the name locked in her mind. It might come in handy some day, so best not to forget it. Odd for a Wild Dog to take care of a hyena pup, though.
THe lioness padded her way over to the wall, noticing the pawprints. Yes, not lion, but it was still fascinating none-the-less. Something from family being passed down...a very important thing indeed. Her tail swished as she took a step back from the rock, a tad worried thta she may 'taint' it in some way. Just in case the past spirits of the den owners were watching. "Wow, it really is old..."

"Yes, perhaps you will," Yakuti said softly as the lioness obvserved the wall, she seemed to be taking in just how old this place really was. He noticed the scars on the lionesses shoulder, she must have been hurt too. He eyed them for a moment before deciding that it was probably better not to ask, and promptly changed the subject.
"I couldn't believe it when I saw all those pawprints, I agree, this place is very very old." He said with a slight nod. His stomach gave a small growl, it had been a while since he last ate, and he was in no condition to go hunting. He ignored it, he would just wait for Jamaa to get back with some food, he could wait.

Nyota flicked her tail as a shiver ran down her spine. What....was that from? She glanced back at the hyena pup, and then back at the wall. Really, why did she feel a sudden sense of unease? He was a harmless hyena pup...right? And this...Jamaa was hopefully not around, or Nyota could be in trouble. She was invading the other's territory, and a males no less....she swished around and gave another smile to the hyena pup, hoping to shake off her sudden unease.
"So, why is it that you live with a wild dog instead of other hyenas?"

"I-" Yakuti started, but he had to think about this one for a bit... "Well, I guess its just because I never met many other hyenas." He said with a shrug. "Is it strange that I don't live with other hyenas?" He asked, though many others had said it was strange and even told him it wasn't natural, but it was the most natural thing in the world to him.

Nytoa was getting nervous, and she really couldn't pin-point why. It was bothering her, more then perhaps it should...but maybe something was going to come? Interrupt their chatter? Nyota's mind always ran out of control with bad things that could happen, and she was falling into that state now.
"N-no, I don't think it's that weird..." Nyota flicked her ears forward, doing her best to calm herself. "But at least you have a family to call your own. Better then other, I suppose..." Like her. Chased from her home when she was small, for being 'weird'. But that was back then, and she'd never have to see them again.
