I'm just really having a rough time with my faith right now. The other day my Dad and I were discussing religion (he hates religion in any form) and He started dissing the church and all that, telling me I should look something up called the 'lost gospels'. Well, for the sake of both sides, I decided to try his angle.

Now I'm really confused. The texts and internet sites I researched all have credible points, and I don't know what to make of it all. I really, really need some help. Please pray for me to understand all of this or please help me in any way you can.

I hope all of you know what the lost gospels are, I really don't want to repeat them. redface It makes me confused and sad at the same time.

The lost gospels are supposedly biblical texts that the early church tryed to destroy. I'm not sure if they are real or not, that's what's confusing me.

Most stuff I have read consernign them sounds so wierd in light of texts in Bible, that I really suspect their authenticy. Also Bible itself claims it's word of God, without anything added or removed. Of course, some persons at some point have had to make the decision of what's in the book we know as Bible, and what not. But I believe they had guidance there wink Bible in form it is now has been amazingly unchanged for hundreds of years. Usually texts change when they're copied and copied again. But oldest remaining scripts are from somewhere like year 50, and the text hasn't changed. I think even that is something, that proves the Bible is not just a book. It's collection of texts about God written by different people, but with same heart and they were people who heard God and his words.

I have read through them and I do agree, it seems different from the Bible somehow, and I also agree that in the Bible it warns against those who would add or remove anything from the text.

But these gospels are written from the same time periods, and were found along with many other books we read, like the book of Mark and Matthew.

I hope you can find this book from somewhere:

Letters From a Sceptic, written byt Gregory A. Boyd and Edward K. Boyd, by SP Publications, Inc 1994 (?)

Publisher information is from my finnish version, but I think it's accurate. It's really good book where atheistic father writes letters to his believing son, and asks about God, and Bible and so on.

There is several chapters about is the Bible true, modified or somehow censored. I just think it would be bit hard to referate AND translate them for you... wink

I can try to tell some main points briefly, if you wish to?

Also if someone else knows of some similar good book, write it's name here. Books can teach you a lot wink

I recommend the above mentioned book to everyone, it answers great many questions with practical and logical words. And the writer knows what he is writing about. It's conversation thru letters, so there is counter statements, explanations and other stuff, that makes it really interesting to read.

I would be careful about things like that. I tried to look at the different sides of the Bible and it really caused trouble for me. I will put you in my prayers. Just as a suggestion pray about this, talk to God, He can help you; I know He helped me.

I don't know what to say to you. I have never been in this particular situation before so the only advice i can give you is... pray. Pray to God for answers. God isn't afraid of questions!!! He can handle your doubting spirit(though He doesn't like it), and He can draw you to Him even closer if you let Him. biggrin

heart I will be praying for you. heart

At the council of Nicaea ( I think I spelled that right), The first Christians took the writings of scripture and measured them up to 1 Timothy 3:16. All those that were deemed worthy were kept. Since then, the bible has been protected with the lives and efforts of all believers. Great pains have gone into making it correct, and available. When monks translated it or copied it, they had someone looking over their shoulder. If they made a single mistake, they threw away the whole manuscript. No matter how small the mistake. Every jot and tittle was taken into consideration. Because even the smallest line can mean night and day in Greek and Hebrew.
