Some people at my school are fighting over this subject... they say that only Koreans, Chinese, and Japanese are really considered Asian. Because they're the ones that go around and go, "Asian Pride!!!" Lol. Some of the Indians at my school also go, "At least I'm not as annoying as Asians." I mean, he's Asian, too. What do you think?

well, indians and pakistani's don't really call themselves asians.
its usuall just us oriental asians that call ourselves asians. but asian pride only applies to white washed asian kids.
i mean c'mon. there's no such thing as asian unity in asia. China hates everyone, korea hates everyone, Japan hates everyone, Vietnam...hates China for sure, not sure about the others. Taiwan....hates China and korea etc. here, all asians get along. well, most of them.
and jpn's never call themselves asians. they're like brits. they want to be seperate from the mainland continent.

I think that if they live on the continent of Asia, no one should be able to tell them that they can't call themselves Asian if they want to. Koreans are north east Asian. Philipinos are an example of people from south east Asian. Where does that leave west Asians? Most people from west Asia don't call themselves Asian, but that doesn't mean East Asians shouldn't allow them to choose an identity for themselves (and one that is technically correct). Don't be a continent hog. (And Canadians can't call themselves American? What? xp )

Lately I've been hearing the term Asian used with people and Oriental being used with inanimate objects...but only some things. Like:
Those Asians...
Oriental rug...
Oriental food, but Asian cuisine
So...I don't know. I think it just depends on the person's preference, although I get highly offended when someone calls Asian people Orientals.
...and I'm as white and cornfed as they come!

In england they call us orientals and Indiand and Paki asians , I think that's kinda wierd. I know indians that call themselves asian and i know some that do not. It's a toss up.

@_______@;; It's a bit confusing... India and like the Middle East is in Asia.. but they call themselves Persians, or Indians, Middle Easterners.. but almost never Asian...

not oriental or asian they should call us Korean... well this is me and its not to offend anyone but
asian- White washed Krn, jpn, or chinese
Korean is Korean no asian... Korea, Japan, and china is different they shouldnt call us asians and as for Koreans who call themselves asians it basically means that they are calling themselves japs or chinese

to me asians are viet.,cam.,korean,jap.,and tawian i dont believe in indians being asians cause thats a whole different culture

whoooooo caaaaares lol, its all the same to me, personally. asian people, to me, are people orientals. brown people are sometimes asian; but only when they call themselvs that. but i consider brown people as just brown, and now asian at all. because if you argue "asian" as someone who's country is in asia, then arabic, some russian, and some turkish people would also be asian. but they're not
