Forgotten's Name: Elijah
Forgotten's Gender: Male

Forgotten's Appearance (Physical): With soft, fair hair, sweet features even when he grows older, and a voice like an angel, Elijah's a born heartbreaker of girls and baby adorers alike. Unfortunately whoever picked his looks didn't pick his attitude. The two suit each other about as well as a fish suits air. The one thing you can be sure of is that he isn't very vain - he covers that poor pretty face in bruises and scrapes, and hasn't a clue about how to compliment his own colors when it comes to clothes.

Either eye-bleeding bright or dark as midnight, he's always changing from day to day, swinging from one of the spectrum in a moment. Whatever looks interesting is fair game for Outfit of the Day, no matter how clashy, and yet...besides being random, takes a fair amount of work each day to dress. He likes wearing comfortable clothes (ones you can climb trees in is a plus) despite all the noise on the outside. Most of the work is done by yours truly. It takes no time at all to sew in sequins or beads or stich something tiny, and once it's done he could be wearing anything and still be happy. Surprisingly enough it works instead of looking horrid, taking a little getting used to, but turning out to look happily 'unique' in the end. Either way, the effect is successful - to take attention off of his own looks.

Because if you take a closer glance after that eventful, colorful first, details start to fit together, giving the strong impression something is wrong. On that first glance, his skin is only pale, which is reasonable. Deeply shadowed eyes, so skinny the arms showing from all those clothes are defined by the shape of bone, phases of weariness and a silvery web of scars that show in the right light, like the remnants of some great sickness in childhood are not. At first it's not so noticable, but as he gets older, the worse it gets. Compared to all that his blond hair is almost radiant, but it too shows marks of a deep illness. Only his eyes show health, a vivid patchwork of green, gold, indigo - beautiful colors, but vaguely similar to an oilslick or chemical sky.

Forgotten's Appearance (Traits): Really charismatic and in control. Reckless. To anyone who easily falls to charm, he's cheerful, kind, respectful and completely at home with himself. To the observant or not easily swayed, he's almost too cheerful.

Forgotten's Personality:
Social
-very charming and a people-pleaser, loves attention
-loves a challenge; adventurous/reckless
-HAS NO SHAME
-likes drama
-doesn't like to be hurtful ('cept when he's mad)
-has a rather hard head. it takes a lot of work to get through

Illness
-gets very defensive when people notice
-can't handle too much stress, but happily pushes it anyway 8D
-usually makes up excuses

Religion
-always shifting belief
-fanatical at first, then dies down to boredom
-ignores anyone who comments about his mercurial beliefs
-bombards Questions, who
tries to keep an open mind
-throws himself into new things without abandon, and believes in them wholly; when talking about a 'wonderful change in my life' or 'a clearer vision of our world' he's positively radiant, like all those past 'changes' had never happened

In the end, as a teenager, he'll still be his same outgoing self - but with a difference. He'll be more prone to moodyness, easier to upset, and plows on without listening whenever someone mentions something related to his illness. For the most part he's in denial.

Daemon's Name: Questions
Daemon's Species: Cormorant

Daemon's Appearance (Physical):
A mostly normal cormorant. Her feathers are the color of oil, with faint rainbow hues hidden inside. On her forehead a patch of feathers are branded stark white in the shape of a cross.

Daemon's Appearance (Traits): Cool, unapproachable, irritable

Daemon's Personality: Very, very quiet. For the longest time it would be Eli's belief he couldn't hear her, that maybe there was something wrong with their pairing. Questions is very pessimistic and melancholy; most of the time her voice is a sulky mutter in the back of his head, catastrophizing up a storm. If the situation is bad, it'll get worse without a doubt. Her take on life is enough to depress anybody.

As for the cross on her forehead, she is a pious cormorant; Eli's constant wavering between beliefs annoys her. She is a Christian damnit. Doesn't mean she's happy-go-lucky, but she has a strict sense of morals she refuses to waver from.

Unfortunately, she has the habit of excusing herself every once in a while. So it's perfectly okay to smack someone upside the head - just when she has a good reason to.

Excerpt: That was when he heard it; a soft roaring sound, a sound he recognized, a sound like something he had heard before - in the wind, in the sea, in the pulse of blood through his ears. It was, he realized, the sound of things falling apart.

He had always thought the end of his life would come down to two questions: Did he fall? or Was he pushed?

But now he knew he had a choice. Now, for the first time in forty-two years, he realized that Free Will and Free Fall could feel very much the same.

How does the excerpt affect the pair?:
The illness. Even if death is a shifty, vague subject..."the sound of things falling apart" says that something is definitely wrong.
Eli's recklessness. He doesn't care much for his own safety - he acts like he has nothing to lose.

What does it reveal about..
.. their past?: Their past, at the time of the excerpt, was in great turmoil, revelation, and decision. It suggests that soon after comes death...but it's hard to tell.
.. how they are now that they are "reborn" as a Forgotten? Eli and Questions are tied in with the two concepts, though each are blind to it. Elijah represents Free Fall. He's daring and reckless, and believes that he is subject to the whims of fate. Questions thinks that's utter nonsense. She's wary of what the excerpt means, but her reasoning is that, if they tried hard enough, they could overcome it. Fate is a changeable thing in her eyes, where, to Eli, it is permanent.
.. their future?: Unknown. WIll they have to make choices in the future? Ones that will affect everything they know and hold dear? If so...when, how, and what? The thought makes Eli worried, Questions reflective.

Powers, talents, special traits?:
When the illness is too much, Questions has the power to break away from Eli, to completely isolate herself from him and not fall under herself. In this way she's free to get help; even in this state, distance still affects them, but not as strongly. At least she's not restricted by his weakness, which could be essential in whether aid comes or not.

Eli might not ever realize how to use his powers, but they're important. On close contact with another person, if the need is great enough, he can affect things in their body. Like blocking off terrible pain (but not healing), jolting an attacker to escape, etc. etc. Not enough to permanently damage someone, and NEVER enough to shut them down completely, but still very useful.

Other important qualities: Questions owes her form to the story. It seems very random - a cormorant, wha? - but that's the reason. XD
Other important concept details:

I'd like to ramble a little and try and figure out this illness thing, since I know it's very confusing and all. XD

First off...it's no known illness, though clearly a wasting sickness. On a day to day basis it won't affect him too badly. He won't be able to participate in too much physical activity (shortness of breath, dizziness, weakness), can't walk long distances or lift anything heavy...etc. etc. It varies day by day. Some days he feels fine. Others...not so. But the weakness is always present, just more pronounced on the days he isn't feeling well. The real bad stuff usually is triggered by stress, and comes at first as a high fever. Progressing, it opens the door for hallucination and night terrors.

Why, though?

I don't want this to define him, but I'm letting that happen for some reason or another - thus, tossing most everything into this post and focusing on Eli for the rest of the thread. Being sick affects parts of his personality but not the main thing. So yeah. XD

-----

And as for religion, I included that in his personality but didn't expand on it very much. What he'll do is learn about some crazy idea, from just about any source, and latch onto it, flinging on a new identity like a fad. If they say part of the whole idea is to get up at dawn and climb a tree and start singing, well...that's what he'll do. Even Elijah's not sure why he does it. For a change of pace? Trying to find the one true thing to believe? Or something vague and unknowable from the past? Who knows?

It makes Questions grumpy, though. SHE thinks he's likely to offend all sorts of people, and yet can't stop him from doing it. Meh.
