Forward through current hallway.
Turn left.
Third celldoor to the right.

These were the directions that fed directly into the neural net of a small robotic thing currently travelling on four metallic, sharp legs down a circular tunnel of holding floor seventy-eight of the Beta-5-Q71 Complex. In other words, this was the floor where a sizeable number of captured victims were being held until they were completely turned into mindless cybornetic drones.

The walls in the hallway were white and illuminated brightly by long, narrow grooves in the sides, floor, and ceiling. The Doorways into the holding cells were oval shaped and made of reinforced titanium and steel, with an invisible forcefield in front of each one.

The small 'bot crawled up the wall beside one of the doorways, then opened a hatch on its underside. A small pair of rod-shaped connectors came out and hooked into a socket in the wall. Moments later, the shield dropped. Then it began working on the phsyical locks.

Meanwhile, inside the cell, there was a small group of very afraid, and very panicky prisoners. They were each held fast in various metallic restraining devices on their shoulders, ankles, thighs, upper arms, and wrists. One unfortunate man, in his younger twenties, was currently being ... "modded" on a labtable in the corner of the room by a med-droid.

The med-droid wasn't a Bion- that is, it was entirely mechanical, with no organic parts. It had a large number of various small arms, each equipped with a wide array of various precision medical instruments. It stood on three somewhat thin legs, like a tripod. Its "head" was equipped with several kinds of camera-"eyes", the most noticeable being the large red one on the left, that took up most of that side of the head.

It was currently hooking up the wiring to the victim's mechanized arm. Suddenly the door swung open. The tiny spider-bot scuttled in and fired a tiny ray of energy at the med-droid's back. The droid immdiately shut down, frozen in its position.

The spider-bot's top opened up and revealed a strange decive that, one fully deployed, projected the written words as they were spoken in a tired, old voice, sounding like they were echoing inside a small metal room.

"Rejoice, for you are now free. My droidling will aid you in freeing yourself from your shackles, as well as heal or... repair any damage your body may have sustained. I will be with you shortly to help you escape. But know that your freedom comes with a price. We will discuss this price when we meet."

The droidling re-closed the communication device, the immediately set to work unlocking the prisoners' bondages. Once it was done with that, it climbed onto the table with the partially-modded human. It took a few moments to survey what had been done, then careful knocked the med-droid over with one, apparently very strong, leg. Then it opened another hatch on its front, and several tiny arms came out and began working to repair him just enough so that he wouldn't die if he got away from the medical equipment. Then it freed him, as well, and hopped down from the table.

It turned back to look up at him, as if waiting to see if he could get up alright.

Sevic had been laying there silently, in pain, but not screaming, or shivering. He had given up on such things long ago, when the modifications began. It started with his chest, the control center, then his eyes.. The beasts, they didn't even give him the simple pleasure of sedatives! No, he wouldn't give them the pleasure of screaming in pain.

Then, enter the spider-bot, freedom, at last. A quiet sigh escaped him, eyes.... Or what were now called eyes, became hidden by his eyelids. He felt the little bot, working on him, he could actually feel it, the electric it was using as it working on him. "Thank you, my little friend." Then, when the bonds that held him were released, he sat bolt up right, squeezing hands into fists.

"Son of a-..." He stopped talking, just slamming the fist of his mechanical arm against the table... Apparently strength came with that modification. He swung his body around, placing his feet against the ground, then standing up.... Or, trying to, instead he began to stumble forward. After a moment he caught his balance, and stood there, shakily for a minute, looking to the other prisoners, then down to the bot.

Sevic was tired, and in pain, but the want to get out of this hell hole was a lot stronger than that... He could feel the need to escape, taste iteven.

Clicking.. Clicking.. Clicking... She couldn't stand the incessant clicking of that creepy little med-droid! Every time It decided to come pay a visit, she had to curl up as much as she possibly could and clench her eyes shut so that she wouldn't have to see It working away effortlessly. That didn't help the clicking, though. Really, it made her wonder why humans still tried to obtain a futile goal.

Mind you, Eleri had had a lot of time to think about human nature. Yet none of the conclusions she had come to recently happened to be all that pleasant.

So while the girl was -once again- hardly managing to keep herself sane while the med-droid worked away, it surprised her that there happened to be an abnormal noise arise from what should have been constant clicking. And by the time Eleri braved to open her eyes to see and comprehend what was happening, it was almost over, for the homicidal little droid was opening his top to relay the message.

Freedom for a price? Eleri couldn't help but wonder, now tenderly rubbing her raw wrists that had once been shackled, more or less. Every place that had been held by restraints was bright red with soreness, but it was nothing that wouldn't heal in time. Freedom shouldn't have to be paid for.

Eleri let out a small yelp as the half-modded man slammed his fist against the table, instictively backing up against the wall, staring. She couldn't believe he just called the little bot thing friend. How far had he gone from humanity?

The old man in the corner fell to the floor as soon as he was released from his shackles. He let out a groan of pain, then shakily got back to his feet. He'd seen far too much and almost wished for death, but freedom was a good second choice, whether it was truely free or not.

He had long grey hair all over his head, though he was beardless. His skin had a sligthly yellowish tint to it, and he was weak, hunched over and feeble. He had on the same clothes as most prisoners had- a torn, grey tunic with matching tattered pants, all made from the same cheap, thin material. And no shoes to cover his wrinkled feet. His name was Gavin. Just Gavin. His last name had long been forgotten by everyone, including himself.

The young male furry in the room, after first checking on his lover, went to help him up. He was Kilu. He was something like a cross between a tiger and a wolf, mostly wolf-shaped, with brown fur, but with grey tiger-stripes. So was the female, Aleya. After helping the old man over to sit on the edge of the table beside Sevik, Kilu rushed back to his mate, and they embraced tightly, tears streaking down their cheeks. "I'll never let you go again, Aleya!"

The voice emitted from the droidling again. "Please, follow the droidling. We must hurry before guards arrive." Once the speakers closed again, it turned about and scuttled out through the door rapidly, its little legs clinking on the floor, but very quietly compared to most droids.

Sevic watched the others move about, this sight, he had grown used to it. Just bright outlines, on a pitch black surface. He had lost his human sight long ago, with his human eyes. A quiet sigh escaped him as he shook his head, they should stop worrying and start moving.

He stretched his arms up, shirtless frame tensing, the metalic covering of his chest seemed to flex like skin, looks could be misleading though.

"People people, now is not the time to worry about how we are doing... Now is the time to listen to this thing and get the hell out of this place." He moved closer to the little bot, nodding slightly to it. "I will trade just about anything for my freedom... I have been here far to long..."

Again he flexed his hands, curling them into fists. Then a slight metalic scraping sound, a blade pushed out from his left arm, causing him to flinch, he held back the pain. Eyes moved over this blade, grin crossing his lips.

"Ladies and gentlemen.. PLease keep all oil tubes and vital organs away from my arm... Less' you risk decapitation, loss of oil, or castration." He laughed quietly, a bit 'looney' due to his captivity.

"Lets move!" He said louder, looking to the group again. "You can relax later!"

Grimacing slightly at the display of affection between the couple (she was never into the whole touchy-feely thing), Eleri had to fight back the urge to tell them to 'get a room.' Good thing she didn't, as it probably wouldn't be the best impression of herself to these cellmates. No matter; her attention was soon drawn back towards the droid as the voice emitted from it once more.

"I'll heed that warning," the young woman said rather saucily, beginning to stride towards the exit. It felt good to finally stretch her limbs, and-- Eleri flinched. Distraction came once again as the weapon slipped out of the half-modded man's arm. That was just.. creepy.

God, would she ever be glad to get out of this place. At this point, it didn't matter what the cost for her freedom would be.

Not another word was required to urge her to move; Eleri took off after the scurrying bot as quietly as possible after motioning for the others to follow. Could these things recognize sound? She didn't know, but she certainly didn't want to find out.

The two furries helped the old man out of the room and down the hallway after the others, looking this way and that warily. Kilu jumped occasionally, imagining that he heard a door open or a metallic footstep behind them. And Sevic's precense and state of mind didn't help to ease his mind.

The droidling opened its top again to emit the holographic message, but this time there was no voice accompaniement.

Try to remain as quiet as possible. I have turned off voice accompaniement to my messages for now to aid in stealth, so I hope you all can read. Follow as quickly as possible and let the droidling stay a few feet ahead of you, for safety. Should it sound an alarm, run the opposite direction and hide. It will let you know when it is clear and safe again. The first stop will be a Bion Guard ready room, where I will help you get some weapons and perhaps armor for protection.

Sevic moved in behind the group, stepping out of the 'cell' and moving quickly. His footsteps fell silently, something he had learned in the hopes of avoiding capture. Then, the bot stopped, and something opened...

Damned eyes... That thing either needs to speak, or keep moving...

He knew how to read, but his new eyes made it impossible. So, rather than asking, he just kept moving, staying behind the group, listening for every sound. He flinched when the blade snapped back into his arm, this time it was silent, but a bit painful to... There goes that defence idea. He had caught up with the group of three, falling into step next to them. A couple times he glanced over, tilting his head slightly, he couldn't tell what they were, but they didn't look human to him.. The one in the middle did though.

I find the a** that took my eyes, and I will tear him apart myself!

And suddenly, he had the largest urge to scream out, to draw attention, just so he could kill -something-... But he didn't he wouldn't risk that. A grin spread across his lips, images of fighting, gore, him standing over the many metalic bodies he had defeated...

Oh, I suppose that question's answered.

Too bad that knowledge wasn't a comfort, even though it was probably a good thing to know. And weapons... The thought almost made Eleri laugh nervously. She had never imagined having to hold a weapon. Of course, she would have never imagined being held prisoner in a city of machines.

Life had sure thrown some unexpected twists lately.

Eleri sighed silently, running her fingers through her long red hair as she watched the little droid ahead of her intently. Any little sign at all... Hell, she might even hear the guards coming before they even saw them. That is, if her heart would stop beating so loudly in her ears.

Taking the chance, Eleri tore her eyes away from the droid to check up on the rest of the group, and well, nobody could miss that grin on the half-modded man's face. Quickly she turned her gaze back forwards, shivering slightly. Another creepy point to the half-borg.

The droidling led them down the hallway, curving towards the left. The entire floor of the building they were in seemed to be a giant circle. Finally it stopped by a grey hatch on the left. On either side was a window that looked into the inner machinery of the building- apparently the door led to an enormous shaft through the middle of the structure. There was some motion in various spots on the far wall, as other tiny droids repaired and made alterations to the walling.

"Wait here." the droidling messaged. Then it used its access prongs to open the hatchway. It sped inside and there was a loud commotion and some bright flashes. A few of the other droids in the room fell from their workplaces to the fr-away depths of the shaft. A platform came into view far below, speeding up towards their floor.

Sevic's head tilted slightly when the droid told them to wait.

clang clang clang...

That noise was beginning to get on his nerves, actually.

He moved forward to wait next to the smaller girl that seemed to be scared of him, but didn't look at her... Instead, he watched through the windows, eyes narrowing, he could actually see things closer.

Glitch.

QUickly his hands came up, covering his eyes as he shook his head. 'Zooming in' on the scene had caused him a major headache, as if someone had clawed at the inside of his brain.

Son of a bi-..." He stopped speaking again, instead just growling -very- quietly, to take his mind off the pain. He wouldn't be doing that again anytime soon. Finally he removed his hands from his eyes, there appeared to be a few bloody tears... He could feel them, but just thought they were normal... So he wiped them away, and hid his hands, watching the platform rise.

So far, so good. Still, no matter how close they were to freedom, it felt like eternity. Just travelling down the same circular hallway, passing identical things over and over. Everything was so painfully alike in the halls that it only made the feeling worse.

Eleri was quite glad when they finally got a break in the repetition of scenery, and the droid stopped by the peculiar grey door.

The moment the half-borg stepped closer to her, the girl immediately tensed and began to watch him warily out of the corner of her eye. Why'd he have to stand next to her? There were three other people with lovely sections of unoccupied space near them.

Discomfort only grew when his hands moved for his eyes rapidly, causing her to jump slightly. Eleri glanced at him, grimacing at the sight of the blood, watching him as he managed to smear the red liquid when he -apparently- tried to simply wipe them away.

Ew.

That platform couldn't come fast enough.

The platform finally arrived at their floor level, and the little droid returned. "Please move onto the platform and lie low."

It stepped through the doorway and stood on the platform waiting for them. The shaft in the center of the building was enormous and the walls were covered in circuitry, pipes, and metal plates. Some areas sparked and sizzled with electricity. Some tubes and pipes glowed witha strange green substance. The air was somewhat chilly and smelled faintly of chemicals.

The platform itself only had a small, thin railing, not more than a foot high. After all, Bions didn't make mistakes. They didn't have accidents. What use was safety?

The shaft extended all the way to the bottom of the tower and then some- a dizzying height indeed.
PostPosted: Wed May 17, 2006 5:22 pm

Sevic sighed, very quietly as the little bot spoke again. He moved through the doorway, then had to muffle a laugh. "Lie low... Easy for you to say." He spoke in a whisper, barely even that...

Lie low... you try being almost 6 foot and 'lieing low'...

He moved over to the edge, lowering himself down till he rested on his knees. Hands moved to rest atop his legs. The triangles in his eyes shifted color, red now. He quickly shook his head, it didn't go away. Different colors, everwhere. The green tubes down the side were black, cold, almost freezing it seemed. But the people, the others, they stood out so vividly, reds and whites....

He was seeing the heat... Everything here was so cold, so dead... And to see the others on the platform before him... It was almost beautiful. Then, his vision shifted back, to the plain, boring outline, he sighed.

"Oh... What I wouldn't give to have my eyes back... But I think this place would be even less appealing with true sight.." He spoke beneath his breath again, slowly shaking his head.

Eleri did as the voice from the droid commanded-- after daring to look over the edge, of course. It probably wasn't the best choice, however, for the height was definately dizzying. Curiousity was a horrid thing.

Gulping silently, Eleri grasped the railing soundly, crouching down as low as she could while still maintaining balance. Thankfully, she was rather short, only about 5 feet and 5 inches at most. Sometimes it was good to be small.

With a small sigh she began to stare off into the distance, zoning out.

It's so... dull here, Eleri thought to herself, having only barely caught a few of the half-borg's muttered words. 'Dull' wasn't even a powerful enough word for it. It truly is ugly. How could they have dared to create something so disgusting?
