I was attracted to Japan because of their most interesting culture and then I slowly branched off into the other subjects about Japan.

Haha there is a World Geography teacher at my school that loves China and Japan and like that's all he teaches about- I wish I had him even though everyone says he was a horrible teacher. xd Anyways I got into Japan mostly because of my mother. She always into other cultures- specially like Egypt and Greek. And so as I grew up I started to like those and then I started to lean towards Asian cultures- mostly like China. Then once I got into anime and learned that was Japanese- I moved my focus onto Japan. So ta da?

Oh, what a western mind to say nothing interesting ever happened in Asia. I took a classes called "world history before 1500" and we spent a good portion of our time on East and South Asia, not much on Japan itself, though, maybe 2 lectures, if that. Most of it was India and China, it was definitely the most non-western history I ever got.
Anyway, I think it truly was the language that got me started on the Japanese Path. Ay my university, all freshman were required to take a "freshman seminar" and one was called "Modern Cultures and Languages: Italian and Japanese" I know, weird class, a japanese and italian professor wanted to teach a class together, I guess. I took it for the italian, but I just was so facinated by Japanese that I promtly started to take it the next year. And here I am, 3 years in to it, and it's so hard! But worth it.

Lets see... I got interested in it because I am Japanese and when I was younger I didn't do anything Japanese-related. I didn't even watch anime... eek Now I take Japanese in Highschool! Very convenient.

My Japanese obsession started out with a video game called "Mystical Ninja starring Goemon", but it also stemmed from the anime craze I was going through after playing that game. Soon, it turned into me going absolutely crazy whenever anyone would make a Japanese reference. You can almost say Japan, along with my native American, is raging through my blood now. biggrin

Wow... I know I'll have to update this later because I know I'll forget.
Anywho. It started in like, 97'-98' ish when we hosted these two Japanese exchange students named Rie and Kyoko. They were SO sweet and taught us a lot about the culture and food and what not, and showed me how to make a lot of origami. They were both really huge anime fans, especially Sailor Moon, which had just started airing in the US, or atleast here. So, they left, and tyhen the next year, we had another exchange student named Naho. Her friend Rieko came over some because her host family was never there, so it was like they were both our guests. Then, our last exchange student was in 2000 and her name was Saiko. Again. Super sweet.
All of them were very interested in gaming and anime, and at the time, so was I. We played games together and watched subbed anime and what not.
Oh!. Also, I've been a gamer since I was around 3. So after I found out that most games were made is Japan, I knew what I wanted to do: Go to Japan and make video games. So, needless to say, that really influenced me at an early age.
Well, after really visiting Seattle more, I found this really kick a** store called Uwajimaya and was like a bookstore, resteraunt, and Japanese supermarket all in one. It was great. So now, we go to Seattle to buy anime, food, and cute little cute-ness. xd
Yeah... Nefinetly gonna have to post again...

T-T I have to wait a whole entire week, sometimes two, to get my next anime/manga fix, and I can't even get J-pop for at least several weeks because I have to get it on frickin' eBay... crying
